Official TES V Speculation Thread # 48

Post » Sun Apr 17, 2011 3:40 pm

NOTE: This is a speculation thread. Not a chat forum. If you are tired of speculating on theories about TES V's release, then you do not need to post or read, right? :) Thanks.

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1090035-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-164/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

Note that Bethesda Game Studios is NOT working on Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, Brink, or Hunted: The Demon's Forge -- Nor do they develop MMOs.

In all honesty, if I were you guys I'd keep the thread locked until GI drops. All we're doing is commenting that were commenting, commenting on how excited we are, or re-hashing the same information for people who haven't been following the thread.

They know that if they lock the designated spec thread all the pressure in this particular pipe (a water main of activity) will back up the system and get into other threads, or bust the valves and leak everywhere (a bunch of pointless new threads they will have to lock as well). Better to try to keep it under control in one place.

Maybe they should turn up the posting-delay setting to one post every 10 minutes or something, just to slow people down while we still know nothing at all.

In that vein, I'm going to avoid posting again for a few hours unless news actually breaks.

This is a good idea, which I have been following as well; interjecting only as needed to gently guide and correct.

To newcomers: Please read through the previous threads before posting here so you minimize the chance of rehashing old discussions. Thanks!

Looking at GI's website, they seem to have slowed down/stopped posting updates about news items and whathaveyou now. I don't think we'll be seeing an announcement today.

RE: Quakecon, if (IF) the GI cover is TESV, the reveal would be a month old by the time we get to Quakecon, where Doom 4 could be the day one feature, and TESV as a confirmed item could be given a few words the second day or something. I don't think they would make it a huge focus either, but Doom 4's likely presence does not eliminate the possibility, especially if TESV's existence is confirmed in early July.

Certainly, there's only a conflict if Bethesda unveiled TES V at QuakeCon, the month before wouldn't be problematic.

Personally I think we're unlikely to see Bethesda's next big game unveiled in the next month. If it happened I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they were planning an unveiling right now, I just think a latter unveiling is more likely.

*snaps fingers*

American McGee's Alice 2. Not at E3, but well into production. Fantasy sequel.

Wow, now this is one that fits the description that we hadn't thought of! Good call.

It is the sequel to a really dark and twisted version of Alice in Wonderland that many, many gamers have been awaiting a sequel to for far longer than TES. It is fantasy, not at E3, and should make one's pants all kinds of dirty.

I haven't heard much about the sequel, but AM's Alice was a macabre version of Alice in Wonderland. It was kind of an odd game, imo.

I really think the GI cover will be TES V. With Oblivion's success, what else can they mean?

i don't want to be a hater, but i personally don't mind if new comers repost things and so forth. it's really not that big of a deal. people are just excited and this is just a thread in an internet forum. it's not like this has to be some kind of purist's log of speculation - go start a blog if you want a perfect chronicle of each new piece of speculation.

or

make a request to the admins to add an emoticon that translates as, "nu uhhh! I already knew that!"

I'm just wondering, but has game informer ever released cover art with more than one game on it?

As far as I'm aware, I don't think so. I don't know if they have done it in the past, or if they're going to do something out of the blue in the future. But from the tweet we have, though it wasn't explicitly stated, it implies just one. It referred to a fantasy sequel not at E3, not fantasy sequels or a fantasy sequel and another good game.

I feel like the huge activity on this forum indicates exactly why Bethesda hasn't made an announcement yet. They don't need to, because people fly into a frenzy of hype the moment TES V is mentioned in even the most unimportant articles. They know that people will keep their interest until they're ready to announce it, so they feel no need to increase the hype further. Especially if it takes away from the hype New Vegas and other games they're publishing have.

What does everyone think of the possibility of American McGee's Alice 2 being on the GI cover? :| Apparently EA just filed for a trademark titled "Alice: Madness Returns" in June of this year. Sigh.

Are you being serious?

Because we're not.

Or, are you asking WHY does everyone think it's a possibility? If so, then the above.

I sent Pete an email in regards to why not only with this Skyrim mark but with the previous games trademarks that at the fifth extension another mark for virtually the same product would be issued. My intent was to garner some indication as to the development cycle of these games and to discuss it in a general sense since I knew that I would not likely get anything specific out of him. He was kind enough to respond, which is very nice of him indeed. Though his response did not give me any insight into the development cycle. Here is the response for those who would like it:

"As a general rule, we protect any existing marks we have on our properties we own. We do what we can to protect our properties and anything we may or may not do with them down the road."

The only thing that gets me on it is that by not renewing (or reapplying for) the soon to expire marks for game manuals and merchandise, they aren't protecting their interests. This leads me to believe that they could in fact protect their interest by filing the Statement of Use (by announcing the game) and thereby fulfill the requirements of the mark.

That means that they would have to announce it within the next three weeks.

But that also gives them three weeks to file for separate marks...

SyltStrider mentioned that a lot of gamers liked the first one, unless he was joking? Didn't come off like that though.

I've never played the game myself and know next to nothing about it. I only heard about it rather recently myself. Not to mention I dislike MOST anything relating to Alice in Wonderland.

I'm just curious about the possibility.

No I wasn't joking :) At the time it came out, it was very unique. Many games have come out since with a tragic twist to comfortable childhood memories... this was the first video game that I ever played where they did this. It was dark and adventurous and got excellent reviews by gamers, though the critics were mixed.

Ah yes, the good old we cannot confirm or deny speech. I explained earlier in thread (in perhaps our discussion too) that this indicates something going on. They've got nothing to lose by telling you that they have no plans, but they have a lot to lose by telling you their plans.

Good luck tomorrow, :)
