Known Facts:
1.) TES:V has not been announced
2.)Bethesda has a trademark for Skyrim
3.)A Bethesda employee stated that Quakecon is a good place to announce games

Based on these facts there are very few conclusions that can be drawn. The Skyrim trademark does not mean a game is being developed only that they "are protecting their interests". Meaning it may only be being used to keep anyone else from using it. As for the statement about quakecon it also means nothing more than it says. TES games are not by any means the only games bethesda deals with. I too was looking forward to this past GI reveal being TES:V but I'm forced to take a step back now and look at the speculation we were so certain of and I believe it was more or less just hyping each others Ideas so much that we took possibilities(some which made perfect sense) and warped them into our own certainties.

Given all that:
1.)TES:V is probably being developed but not for certain
2.)As of now Skyrim is only a possibility of the next game (although the dishonored trademark intrigues me)
3.)We may hear something at quakecon but we have equal or more chance of hearing nothing

I'm sure I've missed some but I don't think too much else can be assumed with out jumping to conclusions

cheers to reasonable speculation :foodndrink:

I'm very sorry that you are this easily angered.

I'm angered that you were basically calling me an idiot. It's rude and not needed.

Then again, let's take into account one thing here: Why did GameInformer follow a fan-made Elder Scrolls V twitter account? Do they realize it's fan-made? Should we ask them why they followed it?

Hurm. I want to say that while I am disappointed, it's okay. The fact that they filed for a new trademark means that TES isn't a vaporware series (which I am amazed and thankful nobody seems to have hysterically suggested) and that it could still be announced fairly soon if they wanted to release it in time for the new trademark. Second, the cover's a BioWare game, so at least we were only brought down one or two notches on the western RPG scale and not twenty. Also, QuakeCon is coming up.

Another point is, Bethesda wouldn't want to show something in an obviously Alpha stage. Remember when they showed the E3 2005 videos, and when it wasn't like that people went nuts? I think they just want to show what they have, so they're waiting until they have things of particular coolness.

I think, though, I might be off the speculating for a while. I have the entire console Zelda series ahead of me, then No More Heroes, then Mario Galaxy 2, then anything released before I finish, then the older TES games before I'll start to feel any sort of dryout on my gaming, and by the time I've done that much it'll almost certainly be announced, and since if it isn't announced at QuakeCon we have nothing to speculate on, I think I have nothing new and constructive to add to the conversation and will therefore take my temporary leave.

Ciao, folks.

I never meant to seem like I was calling you an idiot. If anything, your post in response to my original statement could be considered insulting. Sarcastically demeaning my post was insulting, but I don't take that kind of stuff on the internet seriously.

Well I'm sorry if I did offend you, but I mean suggesting that Bethesda is just chilling at the studio is kind of a ridiculous thought. I didn't know you were being rhetorical, I thought you were serious.

We cool?

Nope. They are almost definitely working on a game called Skyrim. They aren't protecting anything other than the name of their new game. Don't believe me? Why, then, is no other province trademarked except the names already used (Morrowind), and Skyrim? Why did they just file a brand new Skyrim trademark, and not a trademark for, say Hammerfell? Because their new game is going to be called TES V: Skyrim. To think otherwise is ludicrous until we see another province name trademarked. As for "Dishonored" and their other potential names, we can rule those out because, again, they just filed for a brand new Skyrim trademark a few weeks ago.

Looking at the trademarks for Brink and Hunted: The Demon's Forge, the NOA for them was after the games were announced. The NOAs for Hunted trademarks were even issued after this year's E3 was over (June 22, 2010).

What does this mean for the new Skyrim trademark? Does this mean it could be announced before the new trademark gets it's NOA if the old marks are to be abandoned and we don't get an announcement before July 31st?

Also, for anyone thinking Deathmark could be an expansion for ESV, I think it may actually be the name for a Prey game. Such as, Prey: Deathmark. I say this because Deathmark and the Prey trademarks were filed very close together, and the trademarks for Prey and Deathmark also have the same NOA date.

I do agree that this an extremely reasonable conclusion to draw. And your right that they are almost definitely working on a new TES game. however it is 100% certain (not far off but still not 100%). Until they say we are developing the newest game in the ES series  we just don't know. That is exactly why I say that they MAY be only trademarking skyrim to protect their interests (which could cover an interest making a future ES game called skyrim) If we knew that they in the development process of making a new ES game then I wouldn't argue that it is TES:V Skyrim as it would be idiotic for bethesda to hold two separate trademarks intending to only use one.

Hmmm... I don't know. I'll call the trademark office later today and ask them about it.

No one knows. I tweeted to Andy McNamara to gives us hints for the next edition's cover, since he did the same with August's. :P

If he does give hints, I WILL NOT get my hopes up if it fits the description again...

@Antibody, thanks.

Maybe. Who knows. I'm not going to get my hopes up. I'll play other games.

My prediction is we WILL get an announcement this year. Maybe not a realease date, but an announcement. Bethesda was talking about a possible 2010 release, but that simply won't be. I'm sure an announcement with rendered graphics would be good. Maybe a good E3 2011 trailer?

Here's a thought, is it possible that just to surprise us Beth would use a magazine other than GI? I don't know much about the most popular gaming magazines so...

I know that it is tradition for them to announce with a GI cover, but it is still possible that they'll use a different magazine. Why am I saying this? Beth has always tried to be surprising or mysterious with the TES announcements, maybe they'll decide to go with a different magazine to keep that element of surprise. While everyone is eying GI, some other magazine is where we should be looking.

EDIT:

I thought that the September issue was after the deadline of the first trademark?

I was thinking that Bethesda could reserve their place for September's issue, and I think that would be a Use in Commerce.

edit: before the next trademark expires.

I do know that shortly after Fallout: New Vegas was "announced" with its short CGI trailer its "Word Exclusive First Look" was on the cover of PC Gamer Magazine, not Game Informer.

Not exactly sure if that means anything.

So if they were planning on having TESV be the September GI cover (which I don't think is likely), would they still have to announce it (via the website or something) before July 31st still?

I think it would make more sense if we speculated the novel. Lets think logically here. They said so themselves that the 2 novels will bridge Oblivion and TESV, the first one is published, so one would think that they would announce TESV after the 2nd novel...

No, Bethesda has to keep completely secret about that book. There is NO reason why Beth has to be so tight lipped WRT to the book. Can't give a a general date? Its almost like arrogance, its kind of weird. "I'll tell you when I feel like it. Sit down and shut up."

Really, I mean, book is released in November, and there is no info about the second book 8 months later? Really? Its evil lol.

I would like to believe Greg has finished the second book by now, so hopefully they'll announce the book soon.

I think that they would announce TESV without giving away too much and then they would release the novel shortly after. I think the novel would sell a lot better then.
