Official TES V Speculation Thread # 50

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 1:29 am

So, we were wrong about August GI cover being TESV, what if we are wrong about the title and/or setting of TESV to be Skyrim? Where else could it be?

Several possibilities abound here, and it is all pure speculation on my part, but if TESV is not in Skyrim, or not restricted to Skyrim, here is where I think it could be...

Summurset Isle seems like an easy choice. This is a set of islands isolated from mainland Tamriel that would make for an easy game world. However, this land is also a possible setting for an expansion, similar to the Shivering Isles.

The whole mainland Tamriel is possible, in my opinion. All provinces except for Summurset. This would be a massive world to explore, but I think it is doable as the foundations for each province had their start in each realm of Cyrodiil. I imagine Hammerfell having architecture similar to Anvil, with more Colovian/Kvatch and Corrol style architecture to the east, and more Nord style with the border of Skyrim. Desert landscapes, mountains, canyons, etc...

High Rock would be different, but not too much so.

Morrowind would be a much different place than what we were used to in TESIII, for one because of the events in The Infernal City. It may also no longer be Morrowind, but rather an extension of Argonia (if what I am hearing is correct from the book - I didn't read it yet) - and of course Argonia itself.

Elsweyr... the work Iliana did on the Deserts of Anequina is absolutely stunning. It would be difficult to imagine the devs at Bethesda didn't take notice.

Valenwood, this province would be much different from the others. If the whole of Tamriel were not represented, and TESV was not in Skyrim or Summurset Isle, then Valenwood, or perhaps Valenwood and Elsweyr, or even the whole stretch of southern Tamriel, might be possible. Valenwood itself would be quite a unique realm to explore, different from both Oblivion and Morrowind in environment. Maybe in the woods between Skingrad and Kvatch, and the West Weald, there might be some parallels, but I'd imagine Bosmer architecture to be vastly different from anything found in Cyrodiil. I'd imagine a heavy use of natural surroundings - tree houses and such - with an overall design closer to the mushroom cities of Morrowind than the European style towns of Corrol, Cheydinhal and Skingrad. Ayleid ruins may be possible, or old Bosmer ruins as well. Would there be Imperial forts?

If the whole of Tamriel is recreated, I'd imagine the province of Cyrodiil would be similar to but different from TESIV. For one, Kvatch would be rebuilt. If the Empire is under collapse, The Imperial City would not be a very friendly place to visit - especially if one weren't Imperial.

As I said, Summurset Isle is a possible expansion, but if it were included in the original version, other expansions could be anything - Pyondonaea (or however that is spelled) or another Daedric Realm (ala Shivering Isles) or something new to the Elder Scrolls Universe.

snip
I'm assuming that they're already too far into development that they can't just change where its located. The most they would do if Skyrim did expire would be just a simple name change I mean it doesn't have to be named after the province it is in, they could really name it anything, but I don't think they would change the province just because the trademark expired.

I would think Summerset would be Elder Scrolls 6, supposedly the technology is not here yet to fully show the beauty of the Isles. I read somewhere that the architecture is a mixture of coral and dragon fly patterns.

I found this in the Imperial Library, this is what I had read:

Alinor

A forbidden city for nearly fifty years, Alinor is both capital of the Summerset Isles and the heart of the Aldmeri Dominion. Human traders were only allowed at its ports, and they described the city as "made from glass or insect wings." Less fantastic accounts come from the Imperial emissaries of the Reman Dynasty, which describe the city as straight and glimmering, "a hypnotic swirl of ramparts and impossibly high towers, designed to catch the light of the sun and break it to its component colors, which lies draqed across its stones until you are thankful for nightfall."

I suppose I get to apologize for keeping on denying it was going to be DA2. I'm just shocked BioWare made a full game so early.

Heh. Same here I suppose.

The thing is, the only REAL factual evidence we have is that Bethesda wants to use Skyrim, almost undoubtedly for Elder Scrolls V.

We know NOTHING else. We have no evidence they'll announce it by Quakecon, or in the next GameInformer. That was the danger we kind of fell into with the August GI issue. We had no pure evidence it would be ESV, however likely it could be. So, we have to be careful with these kinds of things.

I as well did not poo myself, but I guess thats because I've never played DAO; but if DA2 graphically is like DAO I wont be playing that either. I guess I have Fable 3 to fill the void.

I am upset with Beth, but its my fault for hyping myself out. It has been so long (yes 4 years is long for me) since the last ES game. Any longer and I'll find myself in the position where I have to put down my controller, as I'll lack the time to be able to spend hours playing a game a love. And I think this is the case for most morrowwind and oblivion fans; who will find themselves close to or in their 30s by the time TESV comes.

Waiting half a decade - or a decade - to announce or eventually come out with a game is not fair to fans - and I know life isn't fair - but it is also not smart in my imo. The anticipation for the next ES game will dwindle as each year passes by, and without any DEFINITE hope, some fans such as myself, will get upset and frustrated and simply stop caring.

I am done thinking about TESV, and I'm going to start looking forward to some of the great new games coming out later this year, as well as next year.

Heh, its funny to read the comments on the DA2 cover. There were almost as many that said "I wish it was ES:V" as there were actually praising the cover....

Am I the only one worried that the elder scrolls series may be dead or at the very least put on hold for a very long time?

I don't think it's dead per se, especially since they've commissioned two novels that they said will "bridge the gap between Oblivion and the next game" or something like that, and the first one is already out. But if we don't get an announcement at QC, we may be waiting a while.

I certainly hope it's not on hold for an announcement because they're making it for the future consoles.

They could be...

At this point, the announcement and release date of the second novel would suffice for me.

I guess this means 10-15 years until Elder Scrolls 6... :brokencomputer:

If they release an Elder Scrolls per new generation.

Well, too bad...Anyway it's summer and they'll be all going on vacations, so I'll be suprised if we see anything on quakecon. Probably no news before September.

For some odd reason, I'm not really dissapointed. Its almost like I have a gut feeling that an announcement is coming very soon either way. My brain thinks (lol) that we're going to have to wait until maybe November/December, after most of the dust settles from FO and and Brink.

Think of it this way people: The longer they don't announce it, the more they're working on it to be a higher quality game with more content.

That's possible but its also possible that they are waiting for the next gen systems. If those systems are released around 2012-2013 I don't think they will release a new elder scrolls at the very end of this gens lifecycle they might as well wait and make it a launch title then release it right before the new systems come out.

Well, that's that.

I'm highly doubtful we'll hear anything about ESV at QuakeCon. They're going to spend the time again showcasing the four games Bethesda Softworks is publishing, and any announcements will be about Doom 4 and maybe anything else business-wise. John Carmack even said they'd talk a lot more about Doom 4 in an article I read a while ago on computerandvideogames.com I think.

Honestly, I don't think we'll get an announcement of ESV until late this year or sometime next year.

I'm out of here.

P.S. Brotha Spit, I know how you feel.

I'm with you dude, I'm going to take another long brake from these forums. I get my hopes up, and they are tragically dashed.

Yes, you very well may be the rebel who thinks differently from everyone else. But tell me this, as many here have asked for, where is your proof? What do YOU think Bethesda is doing? They certainly aren't sitting around twiddling their thumbs. We've had tweets mentioned here that they've even been locked outta work trying to get in on the weekends. WHY would they need to be working on a weekend unless meeting a deadline of some sorts? Something they are doing is very close to some major event. And, I think we can all rule out Fallout 4 with Fallout: New Vegas coming around the corner...So tell us, what?

The only unfortunate part about Project Offset is that it was cancelled. Something about new technology not working out.

But the years have gone by since Oblivion, and the technology has gotten better. The latest engine will probably incorporate entirely new features to work around concepts thought up in the early design phase, just as how Oblivion managed to upgrade itself out of Morrowind. Who knows, it might not even be for this generation of games. People would like to believe that the current generation is going to go on for a lot longer, but believe me, as soon as a company makes a console for the next generation, you'd better believe the competition will step it up as well to stay ahead of the game.

I don't think we see new consoles for 4+ years. Revamped 360 to hold them off of a new console, and the fact PS3 has just recently started to profit off of their console.

Perspective: Try to find official info on Half-Life 2 EP3 and Half-LIfe 3. They were announced loooong ago and Valve will say nothing more than 'not this year'. Frustrating but the difference is we know Valve is actually working on them. May be a side project. May be waiting on new console tech, May be held up due to union negotations with the Combine But HL3 is coming (someday). I can accept that. But there is something vaguely insulting about BGS not confirming or denying TESV. A simple 'We're working on it. No details' is sufficient. Or 'We understand you want another ES but we are working on another project right now. No details' would tide people over and they could go back to grazing on the other titles the industry pushes out. But the 'barest idea' that BGS 'might' be on the verge of making an announcement (any second now) is wearing on the nerves and wasting a lot of people's time. It could easily be another (2) years before an announcement. Are we all going to jump at every tweet, conference, and GI cover until then?

Besides...McNamara's description didn't fit Elder Scrolls:V anyway.

Dragon Age 2 is pants-crapping material.

Elder Scrolls V is orgismic material.

I'd rather have the latter.

So, a case of no news is good news? At least now I can stop worring about checking sites in case I miss something for a few months.

I wonder if we will see Fallout 4 before TESV, if they are making huge changes to the game engine I would rather they tested it out with Fallout and then fixed the bugs for TES than the other way around.

Very true. Honestly, I can wait at this point. I've anticipated SOME news on this game for like 2 years. I can wait another 2. I know this game will be awesome. I'm just hoping that they are working on an Elder Scrolls, as opposed to something new. I don't think that's likely, but IDK, its possible.
