Official TES V Speculation Thread # 51

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:26 am

Maybe. It's probably the best option right now, and one could argue that Pete Hines was dropping hints about it when he said it would be a better place than E3 for making announcements. Aside from showing off footage of DOOM 4, what else would they announce there?

Maybe an online game of some sort, because of all the live online tournaments taking place.

I just want to post what I said to Andrew Reiner when he asked if ESV was even in development. He hasn't responded yet and I don't think he will. Again, this is no evidence, I'm just keeping anyone who's interested updated on this:

"And seeing as you're the top member of the ES group on GI, wouldn't you realize Bethesda was making it?...It's pretty obvious"

Guys, cool down.

Is there a target game demographic for Quakecon?

It seems we can never be clear with the gaming hierarchy.

Thanks for trying to get something out of them, though. I know I could never work up the patience to contact the USPTO or anything like that.

Lol, even though it is plainly obvious? Welcome to socialism.

Yeah, you're right. But no one ever said you should like the rules. That's why they are there.

Is there a target game demographic for Quakecon?

As far as I know, it's a "bring your own computer" event.

Well, Andy McNamara said he would later drop hints about the next issue. That's mainly what I'm waiting for. I'm not very hopeful though.

Heh. I wasn't the one who contacted USPTO if that's what you're saying. That was SyltStrider and Antibody.

No, I wasn't just referring to that. I meant all sorts of things, like that, calling Beth HQ, e-mailing/tweeting GI guys, stuff like that (it was a general thank you to everyone that does that, really). I'm the sort that just grumbles and waits for someone else to do it.

Why is this so hard for so many people to understand?

Personally, I thought it was hard to tell the difference between Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios. It took a bit of research to work out who's who.

DO YOU GUYS NOT UNDERSTAND?
THERE WON'T BE A TESV ON THIS WAVE OF TECH.
If they announce the game at quakecon (which they won't)
Most likely they will release the game within 1-2 years after the announcment (like they have done in the past)
They aren't going to release a game at the end of a console cycle. I'm sorry, but they won't do it.
They have always built games for new technology, and waited for the tech to come to implement it.

I would bet 10,000 dollars that they have spent the last few years writing quests, and designing the story and game.
They will spend the next 2-3 years putting it on future tech.
We will see an annoucment in a year or two.

You realize that the next generation of consoles wont be out for about 3-4 years right? You'd be out $10,000, as there is pretty much zero chance TESV won't be released for another 3 years. Your entire argument is based around your thinking that TESV will be released for the next generation of consoles, which you haven't actually done your research on, as I said, the next gen consoles won't be out for quite a few years. Bethesda isn't stupid, they're not going to turn it into another Duke Nukem Forever, I'd say we get an announcement this year and a release next year.

Serious guys...take your little spat somewhere else.

@Mr. Tissue Box - interesting information coming from the tweets. If they indeed know something, even if it's scantily more than the shreds we know, they're surely not bound by the same iron curtain of an NDA like Bethesda's people. Keep 'em coming! :goodjob:

I'll be checking McNamara and Reiner's twitters everyday anyway. :P

But really, doesn't it seem at least a little suspicious that Andrew Reiner would ask if ESV is "even in development?" Surely he's at least aware of the rumors of ESV all around the internet and little spill from the review copy of The Infernal City, etc.? He is the top member of the Elder Scrolls group at GameInformer after all. Whatever that means.

Maybe he's trying to downplay it? I dunno, just a guess.

There has been enough name calling, moderating, sniping and other tripe in this thread. Warnings are going to be handed out on the posts I have deleted.

Lets keep this civil, on topic and be nice to each other.

Well, there's two possible situations from what I see:

One, is that he's aware that either the September cover, or a couple covers down the line are ESV and he's toying with us.

Two, is that they haven't received any information of ESV at all for any covers yet, and he's asking that question seriously.

Bethesda doesn't read this thread, why should they? ìt's just ramblings and fans who try to blindly grab some straws regarding the next game.

They exist because the users kept making the threads speculating about TESV even though no information is available. So it was a good idea to confine the blind speculation into one thread instead of letting it infect the whole forum.

It's awfully naive to think that this speculation series of threads hold any kind of importance, they do not. They are worthless. But then again, that can be said about most threads on the forum.

Mistook this thread for the suggestions thread.

I can't tell for sure.

But it seems a bit odd that he would ask that. It's kind of obvious from all the circumstantial stuff we've seen, and the logic we can come up to that ESV is in development.

You would think he would have at least some slight idea that ESV exists somewhere in development, instead of asking "Is ESV even in development?"

That's a tough one. It does seem ludicrous that someone like him, whose career revolves around being in the know about games being developed, would make such a post. Of course TES:V is in development! That's not the question. However, after the last GI tweet chaos I'm not so eager to look much into it this time.

EDIT:

Another thought floating through my mind is the benefit GI is surely receiving from our hype. How many people now have a brand new GI subscription due to the last couple weeks? I can't help but wonder if they're purposely baiting us with vague response knowing the positive impact on magazine sales.

"Is ESV even in development?"

To me it sounds like sarcasm from one fan to another, but sarcasm doesn't transfer well over the internet. He would probably lol if he knew we were picking apart that of all things.

This is probably the case.

Though I do have a question: Do the GI guys know we do a tear-down of the world on all of their tweets and whatnot?

Keep in mind that the September cover is Andrew Reiner's most anticipated game, as he tweeted. Do you think if the cover was ESV and his most anticipated game, would he say, "Is ESV even in the works?" This is getting mind-boggling.

I'm confusing myself over this. :P
