Official TES V Speculation Thread # 51

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 3:30 pm

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1090035-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-164/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

Note that Bethesda Game Studios is NOT working on Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, Brink, or Hunted: The Demon's Forge -- Nor do they develop MMOs.

....................................................................................................................

After all the chaos of the last couple of threads it is now revealed that the cover of http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/07/08/7718298August_5F00_Cover_5F00_Revealed.aspx. Please do not make posts saying "I told you so" or "I was right", all that is over, the moderators had enough of that in the last few threads.
Now back to discussion of when the next Elder Scrolls game may be announced.

This thread has been extremely active of late and while that isn't bad it has resulted in the thread getting very chatty at times. Posting simply to say that you agree with someone or that you wish TES V would be announced doesn't add anything to the thread, rather this thread should be kept for constructive discussion and speculation. If we continue to have problems with this thread we'll start to discuss cracking down on the topic or other alternatives and these options aren't fun for anyone involved.

Also, just to reiterate an important note in the OP, this discussion shouldn't involve the recently revealed Game Informer cover or the fact that it was Dragon Age 2. There's already a thread in Community Discussion for Dragon Age 2, we don't need an additional discussion here.

Good news! Well, bad news in that we all should feel like idiots, but good news otherwise.

I just got off the phone with the USTPO, and they told me this, and I'm summarizing here:

Bethesda doesn't need a Notice of Allowance to use the trademark in commerce. Once they file for it, they are protected. If someone else wants to oppose it, the USTPO bases who gets the trademark on who filed for it first. The Notice of Allowance is issued by the USTPO as a way of telling the company that they can now use the mark in commerce, or extend the expiration of the mark, however the company can use the mark in commerce and file a Statement of Use BEFORE they get a NOA. They don't need the NOA.

So, essentially, the trademarks expiring means nothing if they can simply file for another mark, like they've already done with one of them, and use the mark in commerce as soon as they file for it. So the good news is, we wont have to wait months or even a year for a NOA, but this also means that, as long as they file for more trademarks to replace the old ones, they can announce it any time they please, meaning we have no idea when they could announce it.

Well obviously the whole insanity of everyone just wanting to make posts and getting excited has died down. But one thing we do know, and that is unlike Bioware, Bethesda has not turned into a money grubbing cash machine willing to sacrifice everything that as a company previously made it great by turning itself into an unrelenting sequel machine. So announcement or not, take a moment to thank the guys at Bethesda for sticking with making the sort of game we know and love rather than slamming out a sequel in less than two years and sticking the same title on it in the hopes no one will notice. Thanks guys, take however long you want!

That being said, we're back to "They have a trademark, and have been working on the game from anywhere between three and a half to one and a half years."
People have eaten into the trademark enough to start qualifying for entrance into law school, so good work everyone but we've reached a dead end their.
If anyone else has dug up something, then by all means share it. But lay off the circumstantial evidence will you?

True but it has been four years, so I think it's time to announce the game. Not release it of course, but atleast show a few screenshots and give us a glimpse of TES V.

Funny thing is that very possibly DA 2, a sequel to a game released less than a year ago, will be released before TES V, a sequel to game released four years ago :P

Then again, it's a much more linear franchise.

Of course, and I'm not complaining about TES...it's normal that they take a long time to release a TES game. I just think it's strange that DA 2 was already announced since a new DLC was announced ...I don't when but I know it was recent

Also, I see that this thread is reaching the post limit so I'll post this again in the new thread.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks.

Here's Andy McNamara's response:

Wasn't it the case that they need to issue a Statement of Use for the trademark not to expire, and the NOA is given at the beginning of the trademark application?
Also, it's still costing them money to file for new trademarks all the time.
Why would they file for extensions not to issue the Statement of Use then? Is that cheaper?

I did a quick google search of 'trademark cost' and it came up with numbers from 50 to 2500 dollars. That seems low to be a huge factor, unless a preliminary google search was not the best method of finding appropriate information.

Here's what Andrew Reiner said in response to what the September issue is (it provides us absolutely no evidence, but it's food for thought):

"I'll say this, it's my most anticipated game. :)"

From McNamara:
"@MrTissueBox I'll drop more hints later, but the new one just came out and it's awesome. Enjoy it. =) More greatness is coming"

So we're getting hints about it sometime. Until then, sit tight I guess...

Why do I get the feeling it will be Doom 4...?

Oh wait, Hollenshead said there won't be anything until QuakeCon. Nevermind.

Still, I'm betting it's a mainstream shooter.

DO YOU GUYS NOT UNDERSTAND?
THERE WON'T BE A TESV ON THIS WAVE OF TECH.
If they announce the game at quakecon (which they won't)
Most likely they will release the game within 1-2 years after the announcment (like they have done in the past)
They aren't going to release a game at the end of a console cycle. I'm sorry, but they won't do it.
They have always built games for new technology, and waited for the tech to come to implement it.

I would bet 10,000 dollars that they have spent the last few years writing quests, and designing the story and game.
They will spend the next 2-3 years putting it on future tech.
We will see an annoucment in a year or two.

The 2nd novel isn't even out yet!

LOL at the people that thought there was going to be an annoucment this month.

Andrew Reiner is a member of the Official Elder Scrolls Group on GI online. :shocking: That coupled with the winky thing about that dude's fake TES V Twitter page and the trade mark stuff, and I'd say things are looking up for the September Issue. :)

They also worked on Fallout 3 directly after Oblivion. 4 years isn't that long when you take that into consideration.

Its actually quite possible that they started working on Fallout about 3/4's of the way through Oblivion. We all knew when Oblivion was announced that Bethesda had acquired the license to the fallout series.

The Game Informer issue with Oblivion on the cover (Oct. 2004) had a short blurb about how Fallout 3 was still in the preproduction stages while they were showing off Oblivion.

Heres the blurb from my copy of the magazine:

.....Is planned as another open-ended role-playing game. This game however will be decidedly darker. Imagine a survival horror-esque version of the fallout world, with all the things you expect out of the series still intact, but with deeper, more immersive gameplay. The post-apocalyptic theme (and tongue in-cheek humor) of the series is still present, with your character having spent the first 20 years of his life living underground. Because of this his eyes are unaccustomed to the light of day, thus players will have to train their eyes away from light sensitivity by using a special pair of goggles. Todd Howard claims that fallout 3 will be one of the most original and violent titles ever, and will be set in a familiar U.S City.

Thank god they scrapped the goggle idea. :P
