Official TES V Speculation Thread # 54

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:39 am

In the end we really can't compare the development of TES V to anything without knowing the start date. After Morrowind was released it would have been easy to guess when work started on Oblivion, i.e. right after Morrowind was finished. But during Oblivion's development they got the Fallout IP and now we have no idea when they started work on TES V. Did they start right after Oblivion, or did they decide to focus on making DLC and Fallout 3? Did they start right after they finished Shivering Isles, or did they focus on finishing Fallout 3? The only date we could say for certain that they started work on their next game was after Fallout 3 was released, because they had no games to work on besides making FO3's DLC. But if they only started working on it after Fallout 3 was finished, why did they file for the Skyrim trademark in 2006? They knew they had to work on Fallout 3 by then. But if they have been working on TES V since 2006, then why are they taking so long?

As you can see without knowing for sure when they started working on TES V, making guesses about their development progress, and when they will announce the game, is ultimately futile.

Beth has been at work on their "big game" for over a year and a half now. They specifically said they dont want to announce anything untill they have something amazing to show. How long til they have something "amazing" to show?

Just thinking about it here, and i think the game will be a major overhaul from oblivion. It wont be a fable 2 to fable 3 difference with slightly upped graphics and new storyline. In my opinion, even if it is on this generation consoles (which i think it will be), it will be amazing :)

I'm about to make your day...
Think about Fallout 3 from Oblivion. The graphics were sharper, the world was more full, enemys werent leveled to the player: It was great.
Now the really amazing thing about Fallout 3 is that, on most computers with the right specs to run both games well, Fallout 3 runs better.....thats amazing. It crashes less, loads faster, and renders better.
They say New Vegas will be even better...
So, I have my suspicions that TES5 will be freaking amazing...LIke....Really...****ING amazing.

With regard to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which is not the most catchy name for a video game, I would just like to say that it is nice to to finally have someone getting into Bethesda's territory. At least from a customer's point of view the creation of monopolies and lack of competition are never good for an industry. I know that there have already been a few other attempts to develop open world RPGs but they were for the most part budget titles and didn't have the financial backing of someone like Electronic Arts.

Ken Rolston wasn't stolen. He simply decided to retire in 2007 after working for 26 years in the industry. It was some time later that Big Huge Games a subsidiary of EA's 38 studios made him an offer to come back and work for one more RPG.

Emil Pagliarulo is the one who's taken over as lead designer at Bethesda since 2008.

The next generation of consoles will not arrive until 2013 at the earliest. TESV has presumably been in development for a couple of years already. It will come out for the current generation of consoles, even if it doesn't come out until late 2012 or early 2013. The only way it comes out for the next gen is if they choose to delay major production until they know more about the next generation of consoles, and if they do that then I sincerely hope they take the time to fully understand these consoles so they don't run into any snags with maximizing efficiency during later development stages. Also if this is the case, it should allow for them to create a larger world with much more content. So I wouldn't be particularly upset if they did wait until the next generation, but that would probably mean a 2014 release date, and a risk that despite having more processing power they cannot fully maximize the potential of the next gen, which is one thing that held back Oblivion.

I expect TESV will be released on the current gen, in a couple of years, and that it will still be miles better than OB and FO because Beth will have had a lot of experience with this gen, and technology will allow for them to push the consoles to their limits.

So based upon your first two sentences, you state that 8th Gen AND the next TES will be in 2013, yet you spend the rest of your post stating that the game surely wouldn't be on these new platforms... yet isn't that what happened with TES:IV? Hmmm... so let's suppose this is true, seems kind of strange that BGS would not use cutting edge tech if they had the chance, since they have done that with the past two TES games.

The Elder Scrolls games have made it very nice to explore the area to point to where you sometimes don't want to fast travel.
Only problem with exploring was about ever minute or so I would come across a highwayman or a wolf, there are TOO many of them, please lower the limit of aggressive creatures on the roads.

So what's the over-under on an announcement happening at QuakeCon?

So what's the over-under on an announcement happening at QuakeCon?

My personal opinion on the matter is that a QuakeCon announcement is very unlikely. I already know all the arguments in favor of it, so no need to convince me otherwise. I know about Pete's comments etc. I am a big FPS fan and have followed QuakeCon in the past, and yes I also know that now that it is a Zenimax event things will be different, you just don't have the Frag-athon Mecca become the RPG media-blitz over night. QuakeCon, in my personal opinion is a great place for multi-player games, and until we get some actual news about the next installment, TES is not a multi-player game. The other published games which will appear have multi-player elements, and Doom 4 most certainly will get announced there. If TESV is announced at QuakeCon, my entire belief system needs to get put in check, cause wow, that would be reality-bending for sure.

Yeah, I'm gonna agree with Sylt on this one. An announcement at QuakeCon would be nice, but it might not be the most appropriate venue.

I may be alone in this, but I think the novels are a way of trying to distract us. There hasn't been any DLC for too long, so something has to be in the works. And likely sooner then later. I believe Demon's Forge may be a way to test some ideas without trashing the grand marquee if they don't work.

Why? Demon's Forge has nothing to do with BGS.

People get confused by the fact that Bethesda has all of its published games in the same forum as its developed games. Don't know why.

The announcement when it comes will probably come in a couple of months after Fallout New Vegas is released. Bethesda is doing PR for that game, so as the game gets closer to release all their marketeers are going to be focused upon advertising that game. Once it has been released they will be free to focus their efforts upon writing preprepared previews, uh...I mean information packs for the gaming magazines such as Game Informar. Once those are done we'll get the announcement and then the first preview in one of those magazines after that.

Ken Rolston left Bethesda a long while ago. It has absolutely nothing to do with TES V except for the fact that it is a TES-like RPG.

I've seen this type of comment a lot, and I'd like to take the time to point something out. If people don't know the difference between Bethesda's publications and developments, that only lends further credence to the theory that a TES V release would steal thunder from Bethesda's new publications.

??

So because people don't know that Bethesda isn't actually developing those games you are saying that TESV is going to steal their thunder? So if people knew that BGS didn't develop them, then TESV wouldn't steal the thunder? I guess I don't see the connection, can you clarify?

What? How does that make any sense? You're basically saying this:

A world where people know the difference between the companies:

Bob: Hey, did you hear about RAGE? I'm so excited!
Dave: Yeah and TES V was announced yesterday!
Bob: I can't wait for both of them!

A world where people don't know the difference, a.k.a. our world:
Bob: Hey, did you hear about RAGE? I'm so excited!
Dave: Yeah and TES V was announced yesterday!
Bob: Oh damn! I had no idea! Well, as a gamer who apparently has the attention span of a fly, I have absolutely no idea what RAGE is now that TES V has been announced. My memory of it has literally disappeared. I- oh look, a butterfly!!!!
Dave: What the hell is RAGE? I- BUTTERFLY!!!!!

How does that make ANY sense at all?
