Official TES V Speculation Thread # 54

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:38 pm

The development team and publisher are DIFFERENT companies.

Bethesda Softworks publishes, Bethesda Game Studios develops. Their development team is large. They are currently working on a game in full-production, which is extremely likely to be ESV and they aren't going to reveal anything until they are ready.

This is of course the voice of reason against all those people who feel unnecesarily disappointed at the moment. I would just like to add that they have repeatedly said they are currently working on multiple projects and working hard on their next big game. And this probably means that they are working hard on TES V while they have already started some preliminary work on Fallout 4.

FACTS for people:

They have said in blog posts that they will continue TES as a series.
Bethesda Softworks =/= Bethesda Game Studios. The publishing teams have no effect on the developers and games like Rage and Brink are not being developed by them.
A game not being currently announced and on the website does not mean that the series is vaporware.

Have a nice Sunday. :)

I love Oblivion

That is a fact, yes, but not the kind I was trying to show :D

I just get a bit frustrated sometimes when people get panicky and claim that it's never going to happen when Bethesda explicitly stated they would continue the series.

I agree with this.

The "next big game" is probably TES V, and "multiple projects" could also mean they're working on the story board, etc. for Fallout 4.

It is a commonly held belief that TES V will come out sometime. I've noticed a lot of the people who aren't as hopeful, tend to believe it'll come out with the next gen of consoles.

The Serperium Theory (Serper’s theory) - TES: V is released on the next generation consoles. This theory is based off of an unknown and offline source that has yet to be revealed…
*The sequel to Infernal City is announced along with release date in late 2010/early 2011.
*The announcement of Elder Scrolls V would most likely take place sometime in 2011.
* TES: V shown at E3 2012.
*The release will be between late 2012 and mid 2013 on the new platforms.

Anyone saw a new job opportunites at gamesas.com ? They're lookin for Senior World Artist and World Artist (Contractor). The responsibilites looks interesting: in Senior World Artist - Model and texture high and low resolution 3D environmental assets for next generation products and World Artist (Contractor) - Work directly with the art team to model and texture high and low resolution 3D environmental assets for next generation products.

Next Generation is pretty much the nickname for this generation. Every job opening for every company uses the word Next Generation. It shouldn't have been used after 2006, but they still do for some reason.

I don't doubt that TES V will be release sometime but if you've seen my previous posts you know I believe it is already far behind schedule, at least for a game of it's stature and audience, unless they do plan to epically increase the size of the map or content.

However, I would rather it not be release than be released and be sub-par. And the only reason I am anticipating the announcement is to see what, if anything, the developers have to say concerning Oblivion, it's flaws, and in what ways they seek to improve upon them. Because it seems to me that all we've heard so far, is "OMG Oblivion made us teh most monay, it must be teh best game we've made evar." And if they truly believe that, then they have lost the right to call themselves artists, and are simply a commercial entertainment business without a guiding inspiration other than profit, and Roger Ebert can feel justified.

I hate the secrets, but if it is true that Bethesda has a project in full production right now that is behind the closed curtain, it has to be TESV. Only viable option for a company that... you know.. wants to make money..

But I think they're drawing it out too much. I barely even care, just kind of getting pissed they think so little of their fans that they won't even throw them the smallest bone. This is one of the best series ever, a one-of-a-kind product that the fans flock to and devour, not even leaving the bones. It's been a few years now, is it really so unfair to ask for a confirmation that they even PLAN on making the next one? Even that is speculation. We don't even know if they want to make the next one, we're only assuming (rightfully so, just saying)

That being said, I believe the next one will come out 2011, with a DVD of the production team talking about how fun it was keeping it secret for 5 years and checking these threads on the fan forum.

It's not speculation as to whether or not they will do another TES game; http://bethblog.com/index.php/2009/08/17/clarifying-about-next-elder-scrolls-game-mmo-etc/ The only thing really to speculate on is when and unfortunately we don't have much to go on regarding that front anymore. All we can really do right now is just wait.

Erm, Bethesda's last release was less than two years ago. They will announce the game when they have something to show, and not before then.

It's amazing to me the sense of entitlement that seems to run rampant in this thread. Bethesda doesn't owe us anything. They do things on their own schedule, and they do what they must to properly run a company. If you want a new game out every year, pick up on an EA franchise. Be patient people, sheesh.

The exact two sentences you just quoted answer that question. No-one can answer it any more specifically than that other than Bethesda Game Studios.

We're back to the waiting game again. Something will turn up eventually, whether it be an announcement of the game, an intriguing quote from an interview with Todd, Pete, or one of the many other talented employees hard at work, or news regarding the second novel. Until then I don't see the point in asking questions like these. Patience my friend, good things come to those who wait :foodndrink:

Indeed, and considering it has only been 4 years since Oblivions release we haven't even waited that long yet. Though it feels ike ages on paper it is not.

Actually its been almost 4 1/2 years and it looks like it could be 5+ years for just an announcement on the next game since oblivion and 7+ years for another release in the elder scrolls series since oblivion...that is way too long.

Since I'm actually a dog its been like (28) years for me. :) Seriously. I don't care how far along they are or even where it takes place. I just want to know if they are working on TESV or on another IP cause if they haven't even started on TESV you 'will' be seeing it released with the next gen consoles.

dont forget they just finished fallout 3 not even 2 years ago. they didnt move straight to TES:V after oblivion, BGS moved straight into fallout 3, so id expect a bit more of a wait for a TES:V announcement.

Yes I know that's why I specifically said "elder scrolls series" in my post...potentially 5+ years for just an announcement and 7+ years between elder scrolls game is way too long.

They said they started working on their next "big game" october 2008, and at least a year of that was spent adding to the current engine for major changes. Thats what i gathered from the interviews.
Still i think a decent amount of stuff would have been created by now, or maybe they are completely taking their time.

My bad.

To change the subject for a little bit... let's consider what the map of TES:V would be if it is Skyrim.

Since Skyrim has taken eastern Highrock and Hammerfell, what's the likelihood that the map looks like this?

http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/4687/tesvmappossible.jpg
What do you think about this being the map?

What do you mean "since skyrim has taken eastern highrock and hammerfall"...

Hey, good stuff you guys have here. Thanks for keeping track of all of this information. I just have a quick question. I'm sure this has been asked before, but is there any chance that the newest id Software engine is used in TES5? RAGE is "open-world", maybe not as large as TES usually is, but I could see it being used for TES5. What do you guys think?

Thanks.
