Official TES V Speculation Thread # 55

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:38 pm

Am I the only one that read this and thinks there's actually nothing in process right now?

(emphasis by me)

Seconded - let's not get our opes up.

The last time Bethesda released something was the Fallout 3 GOTY edition back in October 2009. It's almost August 2010 now, and they seem to have all of their employees still. I find it hard to believe they've been paying their employees for close to a year to do nothing but watch Hulu all day. You could say Fallout 4 is their main focus instead of TES V, but... we already have another Fallout game coming from Obsidian. Obsidian is basically doing Bethesda's work for them. Why wouldn't they use that time to their advantage and make TES V?

Personally, Todd's comments made it seem as if he was apologizing to the fanbase for taking so long, not saying that nothing is in the works.

"There will definitely be – and I'm glad everybody’s patient with us – gaps and sometimes bigger gaps between the titles. We hope it's worth the payoff. Thanks for your patience and bear with us. Hopefully it will be worth the wait."

That sounds like him saying "I'm sorry it's taking so long but it will be really awesome in the end," not "Sorry but we haven't even started working on it yet, maybe in a decade or so k guys?"

I think Chaos and Necro are reading to deep into this... a new IP seems a little unlikely to me, since they are going to put their BGS name on Brink and Rage (along with the games Dev's of course), which to me seems like they are looking elsewhere for people to make new games, while they (gamesas) can stick to their fan favorites like The Elder Scrolls or Fallout (which another new one seems unlikely for announcement as obsidian has NV)...

you guys need to realize, when you're giving an interview, and you have a secret that people are trying to pry out, you're not going to give them a goddamned minuscule bit of info on anything about the secret... so when howard says "one day, we hope there's another one too," it's because if he would say "but keep your eyes open, you never know whats around the corner," everyone would be reading into it much too deep, and would continuously bug the hell out of gstaff, and the rest of the BGS/gamesas team.

Most likely Doom 4, but we can always dream. Todd has referenced Doom 4 in several podcasts (like kotaku), so that'll most likely be there. That doesn't rule out ES V though.

I wouldn't rule it out, QuakeCon would be epic is Doom 4 AND ESV were announced. It's possible! His other tweets seem to report lots happening internally, so things might be moving towards an Elder Scrolls announcement.

Could anyone tell me what is up with the random capital letters though? I saw this when Bethblog retweeted it about 2 hours ago and I couldn't see the purpose of the random caps.

"There is speculation that the next game could be based in Skyrim. The name has been trademarked by Bethesda, which could indicate that there is an upcoming game called Skyrim, as there was for Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles. A simple search at the US Trademarks website reveals four applications for Skyrim as a Trademark, three from Bethesda, and one from a telecommunications company in Florida. Bethesda filed for the trademark in October 2006. It is interesting to note that Bethesda filed for Oblivion's trademark on June 21, 1995, but abandoned the trademark, only to refile for it on April 4, 2003 about 3 years before release (2006). Morrowind followed a similar 3 year pattern (1999 to 2002). Skyrim will not follow this same three year release, since it has yet to be announced. Also Michael Kirkbride, a contract developer for Bethesda, is rumored to be working on Nordic lore with text such as The Seven Fights of The Aldudagga"

What a cruel, cruel, man... How could he do this to us!? Now this has to happen:

"Very bIg Names Coming to this yEar’s show. Zeroing in on A Momentous, Preposterous, stELLAr QuakeCon announcement."

V I N C E Z A M P E L L A Q C

Letters in purple indicate letters that should normally have a capital anyway (Start of the tweet, and after a full stop), and the Q and C from QuakeCon. Perhaps they should be ignored, or perhaps they were intended to be counted too. Or perhaps it isn't a riddle at all and he's messing with us. Seeing if we'll bite that sumptuous smelling cheese he's left on the mouse trap. Well I'm biting.

Anyone good at anagrams? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8xr92FISzc.

Wow! I didn't think that they meant anything but that is really interesting, that is the only occasion I have found them today but some people have found strange capitalizations elsewhere? Besides the two we have seen already of course.

Dammit! Those letters don't match Nick's letters at all! Maybe it's something deeper than just the letters...

It's really interesting! Nick and Pete are doing it, so it's clearly been discussed and planned at Bethesda! GboyGold is right. Something is brewing. The question is whether it's TES related.

Jason West and Vince Zampella = Former Infinity Ward employees I think they are Respawn now

Whether or not that could be TES related is arguable.

I wouldn't have thought so. QuakeCon is a huge First-Person Shooter scene and so would be a great place for their new company to get some attention. I wouldn't be surprised if they use it to announce their next game and hype up whatever elements they are going to use to make it unique.

You have to think though: Doom 4 Reveal + Respawn Announcement + TES:V Announcement = Ticking off the box for improving QuakeCon's media attention, a well-known company goal.

To use their names in the tweets seems to emphasize something important though, so you never know...

Yeah figuring out their cryptic messages kind of dashed my hopes for an Elder Scrolls announcement (no one ever "respawns" in TES <_< ). The fact that they did it at all is what gets me though, they clearly know that we like to pick apart their words, I'm not sure why they would do it if no one would figure it out. Maybe they just like messing with us. No, not maybe, they definitely like messing with us, their message clearly had a purpose besides messing with us though.

Call of Duty:

That is all the caps are saying.

EDIT: Sorry some one beat me to the letters and the names... they will likely be announcing their new IP.

What does that have to do with Bethesda though? I agree that is probably what is in the works but why did they tweet it?
