Official TES V Speculation Thread # 55

What does that have to do with Bethesda though? I agree that is probably what is in the works but why did they tweet it?

A newly formed developer likely needs a publisher, and seeing as Bethesda is doing a pretty bang up job for the four other non-BGS titles, it makes sense to me... plus it is bound to be an FPS.

Todd stated in the interview that the gaps could be long and should be expected and the eloquent nod to our wait also revealed that it will still be a while before we have any announcement for an Elder Scrolls game. I'd like to think we'll get an announcement on the 'next big game' in October/November... and I'm pretty confident it'll be TESV, though you just never know.

I swear, somebody needs to take down that April Fools article. There must have been at least 20-30 people since it was posted who either made a topic about it or posted about it here. Which is shocking because it is so painfully obvious it's fake.

Your telling me. I had remove the "TES 5 announcement" from wikipedia. Twice. :stare:

I thought West and Zampella sided with EA, since it is Activision's rival.

I thought so myself...so unless they've gone with Bethesda for publishing this is a perplexing development.

BTW...thank you for posting that very insightful and encouraging interview! :goodjob:

I looked it up, you are both right... so I wonder why they would be at QuakeCon?

Interesting developments today. QuakeCon will for sure be interesting... I'm betting we see something Elder Scrolls related. If not an announcement, I'm betting on the second novel.

P.S. I used to be username Brotha Spit, changed my name. Just letting ya'll know.

I don't know if this has been brought up, but in a recent interview with IndustryGamers, Tood Howard stated that "We’ve spent a lot of time on new technology and re-doing a lot of the engine stuff that we’ve been using." I'm wondering if that's indicative of the possibilty that they haven't gotten far on TESV. Worrisome. However, that makes TESV sound like it will have been much better gameplay/visuals than FO3, which would be amazing. http://www.industrygamers.com/news/bethesdas-todd-howard-on-rpg-development-3d-not-supporting-nintendo-and-more/1/

nickbreckon @ Twitter 2 minutes ago:
"Very bIg Names Coming to this year’s show. Zeroing in on A Momentous, Preposterous, stELLAr QuakeCon announcement."

Could this mean anything? Am I missing something obvious and totally embarrassing myself now?

It stands for "Vince Zampella", from Respawn Entertainment.

Heck, Respawn could be announcing their game at QuakeCon.

some more random letters on pete hines blog

'' Just wAnted to Say we have sOme well-knowN, Well-rEspected speakerS aT QuakeCon this year. Stay tuned.''

could this possibly be ES related, something like?

Announcement Soon On New (W) Elder Scrolls Title

Not sure what the W may stand for could be completly wrong. Newly Worked maybe? any ideas?

Somethings brewing

Dammit, I am so sick of Infinity Ward or anything relating to it. I couldn't care less about Call of Duty or it's latest yearly episode.

Whether or not ESV is going to happen at QuakeCon, I'm looking forward to hearing BGS developers speak.

I'm saying not to get your hopes up for a TES V announcement at Quakecon. Especially when it was on BethBlog that there won't be.

While I don't think it's likely to see ESV at QuakeCon, it didn't exactly rule it out. It just ruled it out for the upcoming newsletter.

"*If you’re expecting a game announcement, sorry. That’s not In The ‘Works."

If you're referring to this quote I think you've misunderstood. Notice that "'In The 'Works" is capitalized. I'm pretty sure that they met an announcement wasn't 'In The Works" on that specific night, that an announcement wasn't part of their new "In The Works" segment, not necessarily that an announcement wasn't in the works in the lower case sense of the phrase. The title of the blog post is "We’ve got something “In the ‘Works” for tonight." When people read that, they were thinking an announcement might be imminent. Bethesda was just clarifying that they weren't announcing anything that night. Bethesda hasn't, to my knowledge, said anywhere that they aren't gonna announce anything at QuakeCon.

Anyway, I've been looking at the QuakeCon schedule on Bethesda's blog. Take a look at the Building Blockbusters Panel. That would be the perfect time to make QuakeCon a bigger event like Bethesda says it wants to. The id guy could announce Doom 4, West and Zampella could announce Respawn's new game, and as a grand finale, Todd Howard could announce Elder Scrolls V.

That would be amazing...

We know that Bethesda wants to make QuakeCon bigger. So I ask myself this question: "How much more media attention would QuakeCon get this year without a TES announcement, as compared to previous years?"

If this year's QC is going to be significantly bigger than QCs in previous years even without the TES announcement, then I don't see why they'd need the announcement to spice things up. If media coverage isn't going to jump significantly, then perhaps a TES announcement would be a necessary attention-grabber.

I still wouldn't count on it, but it's food for thought.

I'm still stuck in the "I can't believe it wasn't announced in early July" mode, and it doesn't even seem likely that TES V will be announced before the end of the summer? I take it back. I don't care how good TES V is. Screw waiting. I want an announcement.

Are we still expecting an announcement before the end of the summer, even if not as QuakeCon, or are we really going to being going on 4 1/2 years without an announcement?

As a reminder and the reason this thread was started to begin with
at last years 2009 quake.com
*snip*

Actually, the thread was started a few months before that. I was there...I never dreamed it would last this long.

I think that's just a general thing they're saying so that they actually have something to say. They don't want to talk about the actual game.

Anyway, the good news is, even if there's no announcement at Quakecon, a question about the next game or book will inevitably be asked. Also, we now have the reassuring news that they have an estimated time frame of when they want an announcement.

I think one thing is certain: they will mention TES (and not just the usual 'we can't say anything' phrase we usually get), just like they did last year. Of course last year, they caused an uproar by saying "No TES in the near future". If they said that again this year, I would cry in a dark room.
