Official TES V Speculation Thread # 55

I swear, somebody needs to take down that April Fools article. There must have been at least 20-30 people since it was posted who either made a topic about it or posted about it here. Which is shocking because it is so painfully obvious it's fake.

Ok, I sent them an email:

Hello there. I'd like to request that you remove or alter your April Fools 2010 article, here:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fullstory.php?id=162212

You see, I'm a member of Bethesda's forum, and I participate in the "TES V Speculation thread," and have for many months now. Since your article was posted, no less than 15 people have posted about it or made a topic about it, assuming it was real. I appreciate that you guys made it very, very obvious in the article that it isn't real. Plus, it was posted on Aprils Fools Day. Those two factors should tell people it's fake. Yet, somehow, there are people who actually think it's real, and as a regular in the TES section of Bethesda's forum, it's gotten extremely aggravating seeing people take this seriously, and make topics about it that get locked or make posts about it that I and others have to reply to and say it's fake.

Please don't get me wrong, I know it isn't your fault that people take this seriously. Everyone makes April Fools jokes. However, at this rate, if you keep your article up more and more people will be fooled by it, right until TES V is actually announced. What worries me more are the people who think it's real but don't post on the forum for people to correct them. So I'd be extremely appreciative if you took down the article, or altered it to read, in large letters "This is a joke article!" or something along those lines.

Thanks a lot!

My name

I think you're opening a can of worms with this one. Actively trying to stop misinformed people starting threads on this forum?

What's next? Getting people to stop making threads about what guns they'd like to see in the next Fallout? No more questions about fixing the leveling in TESV?

This is a VERY strict board. Sometimes a little too strict...

Theres a thread to discuss leveling systems and http://forums.com/index.php?/topic/1105916-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-172/

I agree its a bit too strict. But thats probably because of retards constantly making threads saying "ZOMG no levelling in next elder scrolls!!" etc. Then youd probably get everyone having to have their own thread just for their ideas for the next game.

Oops, this comment is off topic i just realised :(

Are we a bit off topic here folks? Discussion about how the forum is run really does not belong in a thread about TES:V speculation does it?

If someone has a question about the rules or how things are done here they may feel free to 1. PM a moderator and ask. 2. PM a community manager about it. 3. Start a thread in CD to discuss it in a reasonable and constructive way.
However, they may not drag a current thread off topic for the discussion. The rules are pinned and explained and can be accessed at the top of each and every section of the forum.

If we allowed random threads about everything under the sun this rather large forum would look like a tornado hit it and nobody could find anything at all. So we don't allow folks to make aditional topics about something we already have a thread devoted to. :)

Now, perhaps it's time to get back on topic. :deal:

Just a re-post...sort of. I think some people are misunderstanding the whole concept being brought about the other published games interfering with a TES: V announcement, this may be hard to believe, but I don't think that forum members really have the mentality of a 5-year old; thinking that a game which may be more than 2 years apart will interfere with one another.

I think the whole idea that is trying to be said is about this seemingly new pattern Beth seems to show (this may only be because the only real activity came from the publishers so it doesn't count, but...meh.) It seems that as some games lose hype i.e. WET and maybe even Brink, other games gain hype i.e. Rage and Hunted (I'm excluding New Vegas because even though Beth aren't developing it, they still own the Fallout series and will continue supporting it no matter their marketing patterns)

Basically I think the idea is to be on the look-out for when some of the published games lose hype for a new published game announcement, or TES: V. I think this is a rather sensible idea, it has some evidence to support it and their has been at least one example where the theory is true.

PS

If we think about when some of these games might lose hype in collaboration with the 'special' months Antibody found, can we get to a reasonable possible announcement month?

Im still betting on Quakecon, because without looking to deep into pete hines' quote it seems like a hint elder scrolls is gonna be there. remember; "the simplest solution is usually the right solution". there for im applying this theory to that quote, and am hyped for an announcement at Quakecon. :)

I like having fun with speculation and using data to forecast with, but I am having trouble gauging the measure of hype... how are we sure hype has decreased or increased and is this something we can track at all? I know that sometimes people have quoted sources like "google searches" or some sites have "popularity ratings" but I am not sure how that is gathered or accessed or even if there are ways to get the historical data to speculate with. If you want to help me figure that part out, I'd help you with it.

The over-arching part of this is that I don't think it will help us at all though, since I am of the mindset that the publishing arm will not have an effect upon BGS and their particular release schedule. They succeed as an independent arm of Zenimax partly because they have so much control over their own IPs and launch cycles. That being said, I still find speculation to be fun even if fruitless.

Doom 4 has been in development for over 2 years now (it began in May 2008), so I guess they'll be ready to reveal it. I think it's still possible that ESV could be announced, because Doom 4 HAS already been announced. It just hasn't been seen yet. So id could officially reveal Doom 4, and Bethesda could announce ESV. I'm not too hopeful though.

I'm probably going to have to agree with you there especially about the philosophy you have there. I think we have been looking to deep into quotes recently just to comfort ourselves that they are going to announce something soon.

snip

Well, one thing I noticed when WET began losing hype was that it's Bethblog coverage slowly decreased, much like how Brink is beginning to crawl behind other games like RAGE and Hunted. I don't really pay that much attention to anything non-TES or sometimes fallout, so does anyone know when Brink was announced, when WET was announced, when WET was released and when Brink will be released. We might be able to figure this out yet :)

Yes it does, but it also links to a bunch of sites explaining that Doom 4 will be shown at QuakeCon 2010. At least to me.

If it doesn't work, just google "QuakeCon Doom 4".

Hmmm. I don't get that. I just get the blank google search page. NM. I did what you suggested.

"But as far as new announcements, I think we would either do those kinds of things and maybe be more inclined to do them at events like QuakeCon. That's now kind of an event that we're working with id to make bigger and better."

-Pete Hines interview pre-E3

2 big announcements such as Doom 4 and TES:V would be a great way to get it more attention from future sponsors...

maybe i'm being an optimist :foodndrink:

Umm, this is the elder scrolls website. Well, kind of anyways. If or when it is ever announced (which I have gave up hope of it ever being released by the way) it will be posted here in about .0000000001 nanoseconds.

I'm kinda starting to agree with you. Quakecon seems the most logical place to announce it.

"Bigger and better" i.e. expanding the audience that would attend such an event by showing genres other than shooters there? Like...oh, I don't know...RPGS!? :]

I'm definitely feeling positive about QuakeCon.

I'm not necessarily getting my hopes up... that was just some food for thought. Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping there is validity to what we are hoping for, and yet, as it's been said before, I'm taking it with a grain of salt!
