Official TES V Speculation Thread # 56

...now we know exactly what to look for!

As for the voice acting carryover, they dropped the Dunmer voice (a devastating disappointment) and I didn't recognize Oblivion's elf voice with anything from Morrowind. Otherwise, the other voices were preserved.

Imperial male voices in Oblivion were much more powerful and charismatic. Bethesda seems to give the best voice to the male of the native race.

Good to know that at the very least they are moving forward with their next project, and that they have a date in mind to make the announcement. Or if not a date, at least a general time to coincide with a certain benchmark in the game's production. I feel like if they have a good idea of when they plan on announcing the game, that time cannot be too far in the future.

They had a lot of job openings for world builders about a month ago (or so I believe), which fits perfectly in the speculation. Todd said they finished tweaking the engine and we assume the others have been working on the story, models etc., so it only makes sense for them to merge the two together, as in have world builders use the models to decorate the world.

On the other hand, I don't think we should expect an announcement at Quakecon, Todd was really apologetic in his http://www.industrygamers.com/news/bethesdas-todd-howard-on-rpg-development-3d-not-supporting-nintendo-and-more/2/:

The gap so far isn't that exceptionally long, but he seems to be apologising for the wait. The last line in particular seems to indicate it's definitely not going to be Quakecon.

This actually puts my mind at ease. I think Todd is actually throwing hints out to us about ESV with out actually saying it. especially the part where he talks about people being patient about the wait and that tells me that he knows what people are waiting for. as far as a QuakeCon announcement, its a 50/50 but im not gonna hold my breath.

From reading that interview, I have to say Quakecon is a definite no. He has an estimate, that to me...Is the biggest news so far....

Yet they still used him as Haskill in SI and a lot of Ghouls in Fallout 3. Seriously, why not just reuse him as Dunmer also?

He wasn't the voice of any of the final Oblivion NPCs, if I remember things correctly, and it seems that from the e3 demos, they were originally planning on using the old Dunmer voice. I'm guessing there may have been some money issues or some other reason for that voice actor to quit or be fired, but they got him back.

It might have been a disk space issue. I mean, it saves space to have only one voice for each male elf race, rather than two.

I think they fired him and re-hired him just for some other reason.

As for disk space, I don't know why it would be. It's just one more voice and DVDs can hold up to 9 GBs, right?

Depends on it they used duel-layer DVDs. Either way though, it's more than just "One more voice." Sure, it's one more voice, but they'd have to have that voice have to record every line for idle conversations, rumors, quests, etc. It adds up. Plus if they had a different Dunmer male voice, I'm sure people (myself included) would want a different Dunmer female voice, and unique voices between the Altmer and Bosmer. I don't see why it wouldn't be a disk space issue.

Maybe.

Right now I have two things I'm looking forward to. Quakecon, and the second novel.

There is a very good chance TES V will be on a Game Informer cover eventually, but I don't think it will be on this one. Regardless of what I think though, I'm tired of waiting for each new Game Informer cover and being disappointed. I for one am glad we're no longer talking about the tweets of some Game Informer editor and severely over-anolyzing them. We know that the cover is revealed every month during the week of the 5th-12th. If TES V is revealed to be on the cover of one, then great, if not, oh well, but hyping up each cover will just lead to a lot of disappointments.

Anyway, in Todd's recent interview he made it seem like an announcement is still far off. Not too far off, but certainly not within a month or two. Considering the fact that aren't bound my trademarks anymore and, in fact, never were, we really don't have much to speculate on other than the occasional interview.

Is the two year after announcement release date theory still a strong possibility, in your opinion? Perhaps it will be a year and a half?

me(in the fetal position): late 2010 and no announcement, late 2010 and no announcement, late 2010 and no announcement...

A year and a half is definitely plausible, considering Fallout 3 only took 1 year and 4 months between it's announcement and release (announcement in this case being the first release of content from the game), and who knows, it may only take a year or so considering Bethesda has already been developing it for so long, but anything less than a year definitely doesn't seem possible.

What I can't help but wonder is just what is taking Bethesda so long? Could Bethesda actually be trying to beat their previous games in almost every way or something similar to that? Their development team and spending capability has never been larger and they've obviously been planning for TES V's setting and plot for a while. Is this just wishful thinking and unrealistically high expectations on my part?

They tend to announce new titles a little over two years after their previous one has been released. It hasn't quite been two years since BGS has released a game.

Yet the name Skyrim has been trademarked for 4 years, they must have started development on TES V soon after Oblivion's release, even if only just a little, and Fallout 3 was released 2 1/2 years after Oblivion was. If this system of make one game and make us wait over 4 1/2 years for acknowledgement of its sequel's development is going to continue to be what Bethesda does, then I'm not sure this is going to work out well, unless Bethesda decides to significantly increase the size of their development team.

Bethesda has been on a depressing slope for the last decade, where each of their games takes a good amount of time longer to be developed than the last one did, yet each game gets further and further away from the qualities that made Arena the ultimate roleplaying experience it was (JOKE). Now TES V, if it has indeed been in development since Oblivion's release, has had the longest development time of any of their previous games, and even if were announced right now, and released in a year or so, it would have taken close to 6 years to make. Is this the way things are always going to be? Am I not going to see the 6th TES game before I'm in my 30's? Because it sure seems like that will be the case at this rate.

I'm pretty positive that they were working on Fallout after Oblivion. The next Elder Scrolls might have had some planning during that time, but I don't see it having actually been in development. After Fallouts release I would think that they sort of split up their team, half to work on the DLC's and the other half for TES planning, and probably working on the engine.

That "(JOKE)" part wasn't big or bold enough. :P

We both know we will be dead before TES VI is released. :P

On a serious note, when do you think we can expect Fallout 4, in relation to TES V's release?

Even half of their team, or hell, even a quarter of their team, working on TES V still constitutes development. I'm really doubtful that they were in the planning stages of TES V for the more than 2 years it took Fallout to be released, they must have moved onto development at some point before then. Plus, Hulu wasn't around in 2006. ;)

My own idea of when it will come out comes from how long TES V takes to come out. It's been 4 1/2 years so far, but chances are good that even if it was announced right now by the time it was released it would have taken possibly 6 years. So, adding 6 years on to 2008 leads to late 2014, which sounds about right.

I suppose we would have to wait for TESV to be release before we could determine, or speculate on that. Isn't this the first time BGS is developing two major titles at the same time (or rather one after another)?
