Official TES V Speculation Thread # 56

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 11:45 pm

Eh, its possible that that is the case but If I were a game developer then I would not do things that way. I do know for a fact though that it is the way that Novels are written conventionally.

I do not know about this. The Infernal City's story was created with the author (forgot his name at the moment. :( ) Also I do not think that if I was creating a series of video games that I would make a complete story outline before each game. I would make the story when it is time to make the game. When it is time to make the next game I make that story then.

Bethesda likely has a very detailed timeline of the events leading up to and taking place during TES V, and has a less detailed timeline for future games, containing only major events. They then fill in the gaps with more details when the time comes. For example, "The Ministry of Truth crashes, triggers Red Mountain and destroys Vvardenfell" is likely an event they planned while they were still working on Morrowind. That's just what I think, anyway.

They had the idea of an Oblivion invasion for a while before they actually executed it, as well. I'm pretty sure of it. They first trademarked the name "Oblivion" in 1995 and there were some references to an Oblivion invasion back in Daggerfall(quest supposedly about an opening to Oblivion that allows Daedra to come to Mundus and Uriel Septim's famous "close shut the jaws of Oblivion" statement).

There was also Eno Romani(?) in Mournhold that prophesied the coming of Oblivion. Also, if you notice, all around Morrowind (in game) you will see the Oblivion symbol everywhere. Especially in Vivec. So I believe Vivec knew what was going to happen.

The Oblivion crisis of Morrowind and Oblivion crisis of Oblivion are different events. The former is set in a future of the player's fancy, the other is present and limp as a gimp.

I want to agree with you here because it sounds nice when I read your words, but I can't make heads or tails of them. Can you clarify?

TESV will probably (certainly?) follow the events of the second book, so that announcement should proceed the one of the game.
I'd go with an announcement of the second book by Greg Keyes maybe at Quakecon or in September. Release in November, one year after the first book.
At release, the game would be announced and scheduled for release for the summer of 2011, grabbing attention at all conventions up to E3 and possibly even Quakecon.

Game Informer's September cover has been revealed. It's the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. Mr. Tissue Box was right.

I wouldn't think that's necessarily true - it seems pretty likely that the game will occur after the books, no arguments there, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be announced in that order. The book will definitely be released before the game, but there's no reason why the game shouldn't be just announced first. In fact I expect it would generate a lot of interest for the book, if the game was announced first followed by the book which leads up to it.

I think the game's events will occur much later than the novels end, so bethesda could play a little with the story of it. So it doesnt mean that they will announce it inmediatly after the novel's release...

I'm glad no one got their hopes up for the GI cover, I knew this would happen. I never played the other Arkham Asylum but that cover looks pretty good! Despite being pretty plain I think that the black and white with red highlighted has a certain charm to it... Anyways enough of that.

I'm convinced that Bethesda would be stupid not to announce this game within the next 12 months. Andy McNamara just tweeted:
And for the people that keep begging for the next Elder Scrolls....trust me, we want it too. Patience.

That made me laugh so I thought I'd share it, please don't speculate over this, I'm almost sure he wasn't saying anything by this. It appears though that we are not the only ones bugging him about it...

Why would they be "stupid" not to announce it? They can announce it whenever they please, and will still make the same amount of money from the project. Do you know how many people play TES games? Even if it's not released for another 3 years, the same amount of people will be there on release day to buy it.
@GHE
LOL, released next year? I really, really highly doubt we'll even see an announcement until late this year, there's no way it's coming out 6 months after announcement.

Yeah, you're right about this, but I must admit I'm guilty of claiming that its stupid to keep "delaying" announcement. People are going to buy TES V, if it comes out in 1 year or 5 years...

I think I found something really interesting ! !

I just noticed through my new recommendations on amazon that the german translation of The Infernal City is already going to be released on the 24th of August .

It will be published by panini books, so I went directly to their website...

And there it says in the description text :

" [...] Noch in diesem Jahr will die Softwareschmiede Bethesda mit Elder Scrolls V für einen weiteren Meilenstein der Saga sorgen. Panini ver?ffentlicht zum Spiel-Release den ersten offiziellen Roman zum Game."

in English :

" [...] Yet this year, the software developer Bethesda wants to provide with Elder Scrolls V for another milestone in the saga. Panini publishes for the game's release the first official novel."

I wonder how often Bethesda employees check in to this thread and have a good ol' chuckle at their continued success in keeping us in the dark.
