Fallout 4 Coming in 2011?

Fans of the post-Apocalyptic game, set in Washington, D.C., won't have to wait another decade for "Fallout 4." Howard said he believes three years is a good time frame between games.

Gamers have been waiting 10 years for Bethesda Softworks' "Fallout 3," for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. "I think it's good for people to miss things," said Todd Howard, executive producer of the game. "Ten years between 'Fallout' is a bit long, but I think there's this nostalgia factor." Fans of the post-Apocalyptic game, set in Washington, D.C., won't have to wait another decade for "Fallout 4." Howard said he believes three years is a good time frame between games.

i will bet on FO4 before elder scrolls

That works both ways. "Three years is a good time frame between games." To me that includes the Elder Scrolls games too and not just the fallout games.

Agreed. This is just a generalized statement by Todd Howard which of course applies to all games and as usually it was blown out of proportion by some journalist who simply wanted to make another headline.

My bet is that while Bethesda is working on TES V, they are not going to announce it close to the release of F:NV. I expect Bethesda to announce TES V at the earliest a good ? year after F:NV comes out, with release 1-2 years later. So, that is a release in late 2012 or 2013.

Why? there 2 seperate fanbases. Elder scrolls has nothing to do with fallout.

Thanks for the kind comments Sylt.

Can someone re-post that interview with an Obsidian dev where he said Fallout: New Vegas was made to ease the time between Bethesda's Fallout games? Can't find it...

It's been so long since Oblivion came out.......I'm betting that something will be leaked by the end of the year.

Leaked? No no. Bethesda doesn't "leak" content. They let us know about it when they want, and no sooner.

The wait is getting a bit long, though.

1994: Arena released

1996: Daggerfall released

1997:Battlespire released

1998:Redguard released

2000 Morrowind announced

2002: Morrowind released

2004: Oblivion announced

2006: Oblivion released

2010(4 1/2 years after Oblivion's release): ...

Yes, there was Fallout 3. No, it is not an Elder Scrolls game, and while I enjoyed it, not all Elder Scrolls fans really care.

Were they working on any other games within the Arena-Oblivion era?

So they also made crappy sport games?

And if so, would that not mean that TESV would be released this year, if previous trends are still the case?

I'm thinking the 2nd book will be announced at/during QuakeCon... then released late october/early november. Announcement and GI cover of TES:V in january/february. preview at E3 2011, released spring 2012... just a guesstimate, but seems like if we're lucky both the book and the second game will be announced at the same time, but I'm thinking unless we get a book announcement, a game announcement doesn't seem likely.

I see a lot of the TES people on the Fallout forums, modding and playing Fallout 3. While the atmosphere of the two games differ, both are action oriented RPGs and have similar style gameplay. My point were that Bethesda is unlikely to start hyping TES V while they are trying to get the same group of people to buy F:NV.

either way i hope this amount of time between games never happens again. Even if it does mean a spin off by a different company, its better than nothing.

The only problem with your point is that F:NV is being released relatively soon, whereas TES V hasn't even been announced yet and isn't going to be released for at least another year, probably longer. Which means that, hypothetically speaking, if Bethesda announces TES V the day F:NV is released, I don't think anybody is going to say "Oh, TES V is coming out in 18 months, I guess that means I can't buy F:NV today."

Nobody is not going to buy F:NV now just because TES V is announces since the release dates of the two games are so far apart. I mean, put yourself in that situation. You're at the store holding F:NV in your hands and Bethesda announces that TES V will be released in 18 months. Are you really going to put down F:NV because of that announcement?

I picture myself in a situation at a store holding TESV in my hands. But I'll still pick up FONV on release day and most likely stay in my 360 till TESV is released. We'll at least have 3-5 add-ons for new vegas too.

I play a lot Fallout3, today i purchased the first expansion, Operation Anchorage, now that i have the money to buy it, i mean, there are fans of both series in this forum, so if Beth would announce TESV i think the same fanbase that plays Fallout too wouldnt care about that and keep playing F3/buying New Vegas.

I'm sorry but as a member of the group that likes TES and Fallout, that's wrong. I will buy New Vegas, but even if TESV was announced the day New Vegas launches, I would still be crapping myself with excitement. Fallout is nice but TES is on a whole other level for me. I would play and hopefully enjoy New Vegas while still anticipating TESV.

I love both TES and Fallout. There's more than enough room in my heart for both. Just because I'm playing Fallout 3 right now doesn't mean I wouldn't yell OMGOMGOMG!!! if I heard that TESV was coming out. I'd be in gamer geek heaven if I had both NV and TESV sitting in front of me at the store. I'd become a freakin' hermit!

I don't think it'll happen though. I think they put Obsidian on Fallout NV so they could concentrate on TESV. NV will come out, then TESV, then Fallout 4. And I think their armor is starting to crack. I mean, Todd Howard actually felt he had to apologize for not having any news about TESV, and asked for our patience. Right? He responded. This is their website, right? You can't tell me they don't read it and see 57 TESV speculation threads. They know how much we all want TESV. They'd be fools not to pay attention to their fanbase. That's my 2 cents. Now I'll shut up.

Going back to Todd Howard apologizing and his past interviews about not expecting ESV anytime soon and etc..., with all the ESV speculation going on, wouldnt Mr. Howard flat out come out and say that "ESV is not in production what so ever and bethesda fans need to lay off the rumors of ESV being in production because thats not what my team at bethesda is currently working on at the moment." I for one believe that ESV is in production at the moment. I just know that Todd isn't confirming nor denying that ESV is in production. Thats just me though.

Oh my God Bethesda it's been somewhere around 4 long years since Oblivion and [censored] 57 threads of speculation along with another billion suggestion/wish threads. Is the airconditioning at Bethesda Softworks releasing some kind off sleeping gas at office or do they just hate their fans? I cant help to notice Acticivision, Rockstar and Ubisoft are throwing overpriced games and DLC' at us year after year.

i feel this is a common misconception games like COD or Halo take a huge amount of time and a huge amount of play testing because a bug in an online game that millions of people are playing is a lot more devastating then say the infinite gold glitches in oblivion the visuals are typically much nicer then RPGs ( obviously they can do this because they don't need to make such a massive world space) the fact is that other Dev teams are releasing extremely high quality games of the same ambition and caliber as Bethesda games with more public communication. people say that we need to wait for it to be ready but the majority of fans don't care about visuals they just some info, Bungie does a fantastic job of this they release tid bits of info all the time the pod casts are funny and informal and there are really open about what they are doing, they keep things under wraps until they are ready but they still talk about the games they are making fairly openly, this hasn't hurt bungie in the slightest in fact it has helped there sales and publicity, keep your visuals until you are comfortable showing them but common Bethesda have some fun with it. as was said if these other companies can release extremely ambitious titles that are from a technical standpoint probably more advanced consistently and with open discourse with fans over the dev time then why cant you?

Between now and next Thursday, we’ll keep you updated on additional scheduling notes.

You have all the time in between to hope and pray for a TES V announcement. I've given up. I've got enough starcraft 2 map making skills to make myself my own elderscrolls game. :P

Yeah, I have no idea why Bethesda treats their own fanbase with such disdain. As you say, many other game developers are very open about what they're doing and active with their fans, posting on the forums, giving them weekly updates, in-house podcasts, etc.

Bethesda, clearly, has chosen a different path.

Bioware is also great at this. Their people post a great deal in the forums; I've even seen EA's vice president and co-founder of Bioware, Ray Muzyka, post several times, as well as accept friend invites. They are very open about upcoming games and are willing to discuss improvements, etc with the fans on a regular basis. Bethesda, however, seems to think this is a poor idea as we never get any dev interaction at all.
