Official TES V Speculation Thread # 57

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:20 am

Yeah, I have no idea why Bethesda treats their own fanbase with such disdain. As you say, many other game developers are very open about what they're doing and active with their fans, posting on the forums, giving them weekly updates, in-house podcasts, etc.

Bethesda, clearly, has chosen a different path.

:sadvaultboy:

Bethesda used to be active on there forums as hinted by the fact they put names of forum users that died during morrowind development in morrowind as easter eggs, I have no clue why they aren't active now.And bethesda doesn't give weekly updates about here games because they want all the games there making to be secret so that the experience is better when you hear an announcement, if that's what you meant by weekly updates.I will [censored] my pants when i hear about bethesda starting to work on TES V,But other series like the halo series and the call of duty series i would go NOWHERE NEAR [censored]TING MY PANTS! That my friend is the reason behind bethesda's madness, it's all about making there fan base [censored] THERE PANTS.

Bioware is also great at this. Their people post a great deal in the forums; I've even seen EA's vice president and co-founder of Bioware, Ray Muzyka, post several times, as well as accept friend invites. They are very open about upcoming games and are willing to discuss improvements, etc with the fans on a regular basis. Bethesda, however, seems to think this is a poor idea as we never get any dev interaction at all.

I don't think it has so much to do with the fans, but their competitors. It's likely there's some big new thing being planned for TESV and they don't want to tip their hand too early. Other companies might end up trying to copy them and compete with it.

haha I'm a halo guy so yeah when halo comes its a paints browning moment for me it means hours and hours of fun fraging with friends and teammates. Here is my problem with the whole holding there hand until its ready thing, people try to copy TES all the time i mean look at 2 worlds... its hard to do and Bethesda is the best at it, just as Bungie doesn't fear any other sci fi shooters taking its fan base neither should Bethesda fear any copy cat series seeing as anyone trying to do one would be bush league at best. the weekly updates thing is just an example, these other companies never go any amount of time with out something to show whether it be DLC for a current title or a new announced IP, for example Halo 3 had a lot of map packs that excited everyone in between it and halo ODST, ODST was released with the last of the map packs and in September at the spike VGAs Reach was announced see how this works? all of these are AAA titles and bungie always has something to show for, IW did the same thing map packs and DLC until they could announce MW2 and then they showed that off, Treyarch, Bioware, IW, Bungie, Dice, ect all do this ... why not Bethesda?

I think that if Todd or Pete does not just come out and say "We are not working on a new ES game." and instead they say "We can neither confirm nor deny that there is a new Elder Scrolls game currently in development." then they are probably making a new TES game simply because they could just come out and say no. But when they are making it they can not just come out and say no. RIGHT????

Nah, Bethesda has flat-out denied working on things in the past that were later revealed to be real, like Fallout 3's DLC Point Lookout. Bethesda said they had no plans to make more than 3 DLCs while at the same time the name "Point Lookout" had already been leaked.

That's not to say they will do that again, but my point is that they don't have to not deny it.

Look, it doesn't take rocket science to ascertain from Todd that they are going to make TESV. He has stated SEVERAL times that he and his team want to continue TES series. If he wants something, he will make it happen... do you think that Todd Howard will not get what he wants? Who has denied him anything? I agree with you, it is absurd that people think that TESV is improbable.

It is likely on the next gen consoles though, and that will cause people to debate me.

But it is going to happen none-the-less.

Well, it seems like the honorable thing to do; not lying to their fans, that is.

I agree with it being on next gen consoles, and I think it will be a console to PC port, since that seems to be so popular these days.......Also I just assume it will be next-gen cause Morrowind was released shortly after XBOX and Oblivion shortly after 360...but those are just my experinces, I was like 6 when Daggerfall came out so Morrowind was my first TES.

I propose we all agree to ban talking about the possibility of it being on the next gen until either:

1. The year 2011 comes and TES V has yet to be announced.
2. A next gen console is announced.

Because, frankly, talking about it just starts arguments and really just gets us nowhere.

Anyone agree?

Edit: Argh, typo.

yes, we start getting arguements about when the next gen is coming and what it will be rather then about TES5.

Sounds fun, I'll agree :P Do you think there will be an announcement before 2011? I kinda lost hope when they released FO3, mainly cause it did so well, and I know alot of people who were played FO3 but when I was like "This is sorta like Oblivion" they would be like "What's Oblivion?" I should clarify what I am meaning to say.....these people never liked RPGs and used to mock me for playing them, but would play FO3. So it just seemed to me that Bethesda would start making Fallout games instead of TES to turn a profit....then again they don't seem like the greedy type.....so who knows....

I agree. And to add I think it is very unlikely that it will be on the next gen. If the game they are working on is the next TES then it almost certenly wont be. They started work on it in 2008, if the SDK's for the next gen were avaliable back then then we would have heard about the consoles now, and they would be avaliable mid to late 2011. The fact that they are releasing Move and Kinect means that they dont intend to release a new console till earliest of 2012. They dont release SDK's 4 years in advance. Unless everyones talking about the "Wii HD" :P

Just to reply back on the next-gen:

Both Microsoft and Sony have claimed that they want their consoles on the market as long as possible. Witch of course make sense from a economic stand. However we will come to an point where the market is saturated. Sony has put much effort, money, time and technology into their PS3. PS3 will still be on the market for quite a while. Microsoft is ready to launch their new natal project witch will have the ultimate goal of extending the lifetime of the Xbox360. Also there is the "new" PS3 slim and soon to be released xbox slim.

I dont think we should begin to speculate in new consoles for at least another year.

I too have a feeling that ESV will be on the current gen. Todd said awihle back that they finished upgrading thier systems and with that said they could be pushing the limits of the 360 and ps3 with ESV as far as graphics and maybe abilities to do other things.

I agree with Antibody but as the two posts above confirm it is impossible for all the people on the internet to agree on something. However, I can promise that I will personally refrain from talking about the next gen consoles for quite a while.

This and about 10 other volatile/redundant topics. It's unfortunate this will only apply to those who read and remember it a few threads from now.

Let's please keep the console/PC comparisons out of here as well (not that you were, but others may sniff it out as bait).

Someone wasn't paying attention when they played Oblivion. No re sizable and utterly gigantic UI? No anti-aliasing and HDR lighting?

Absolutely. It seems completely logical to assume that the next TES game will be on the 360 and PS3.
I was going to give my reasons why but Pygmy Lepper beat me to my own ideas.
