Official TES V Speculation Thread # 58

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:15 pm

I wish we could get a clear explanation of whether they actually began their next project right after Fallout 3 shipped, or if they did pre-production before Fallout 3 was shipped.

He said, "most of 2009" correct? That means, not all of 2009 meaning they probably finished up major changes with the engine towards the end of 2009.

Also, not everyone at BGS is a graphics engine programmer. With any game, a lot of pre-design, art, writing and planning work goes on prior to creating the in-game assets. You can bet there was plenty of that type of work going on. The groundwork for the next game was probably started prior to Fallout 3's release.

Unfortunately we probably won't know that until after the game is released.

Please requote me from my post where I said anything about Bethesda never making another TES game.
Oh wait, I didn't. Get the stick out of your ass.
I said you don't know that they aren't working on it right now, or that was even what they were talking about. They make more games than TES champ.

Allow me to rephrase.

Todd: Let's piss off the fans who have been waiting half a decade by not making TES V just yet, but instead, let's work on another Fallout game so that there can be three Fallout games before another Elder Scrolls game. We can do that, or we can get yet another brand new IP, even though Fallout is our new one and we clearly can't handle more than two series at the moment. Let's ditch our flagship series, for the moment. Our fans can wait nearly a whole decade for their next Elder Scrolls game.

There is almost always some pre-production done on whatever is gonna be next when the previous game is actually nearing the launch window. People who were needed at the start of a project aren't always necessary at the end so they usually start at least with things like concept art and other stuff like that during that period.

Still, Todd said "We've been working on this project for two years". That sounds pretty clear-cut to me.

Yeah, that does dash one's hope a bit, doesn't it? Taking it purely at face value would lead me to believe that we won't see an announcement until next summer.

Todd- "... You mentioned "working on something for two years and not showing it", that's the situation I'm in right now. You know, we've been working on something for two years, and haven't shown it yet. And we don't know when yet, but we're excited to do it and we're really really excited about it. And this is the perfect crowd to do stuff like that..."

Close... but no cigar.

Sounds like the game's gonna be interesting though, whatever it may be.

Outside of just a random announcement out of the blue , when is the next even semi realistic place they would announce this ?

Out of the blue is more their style, but excluding that I'd say next year's Quakecon.

It wasn't all bad news really , him saying that they spent most of 2009 redoing the game engine would seem to indicate that they were done with that and are likely actually in the process of building the game now. Usually its not terribly long after that starts that you get an announcement.

To be fair we got some anonymous users (why hide your name if you could just log out and be viewed as a guest?), an Orange Name (we all know what that means), and tons of people watching and reading the threads.

So if Bethesda's reading what's going on after the whole thing... it's of some level of important to them, right?

Well, if we make unbased and unsupportable assumptions I suppose there is a silver lining.

If we assume that the project that Todd says has been in production since 2009 is ESV, and if we hope (without any basis whatsoever) that preproduction and concept design started before fallout 3's release, then that gives them a very nice chunk of time to work on a really creative game.

Creative game = something fun and not bland = a good start!

So if I follow the white rabbit of my imagination that's good news!

And yet another "may be an MMO" clause.

Every time I read one I get more nervous.

Another thing that interested me was his comment about someone asking him why he still made single player RPG's when those were supposedly dead. He answered him with the fact that they were only dead because no one had been making them or something along those lines. Of course i am reading into things and grasping at straws , but still thought it was interesting.

I love the one and only comment on the article:
"I think it is a MMO if it is in development for 2 years without any coverage"

It’s been highly speculated the title Bethesda’s developing internally is a new Elder Scrolls title, one which may be an MMO

Oh man, when will these people learn to shut up with the silly MMO dilemma. Todd, iirc, has stated that his team does not work on MMOs.

Yup. That would be the one and only reason I can think of that would prohibit me from buying an Elder Scrolls game. If it's an MMO, I'll cry like a little girl.
