Official TES V Speculation Thread # 58

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:29 pm

I think so. He came on stage for 5 minutes max, as an introductory speaker before Carmack's keynote began. I think he wanted to get the Arkane announcement out there and hint at the goodies in store for the weekend.

It may well be a new game entirely rather than TES:V, and the 'working together with Bethesda' part of his speech may have been referring to nothing more than a developer/publisher partnership. If that's the case, then it's just yet another game for Beth to publish whilst their internal team remains at hard work on TES:V.

Is Arkane Studios a game developer or publisher or both?

A developer. You can find out more about them in the latest BethBlog post http://bethblog.com/index.php/2010/08/12/quakecon-2010-welcome-to-the-family-arkane-studios/.

I've said this for the past year and I'm sticking to it...

Bethesda is making an entirely new game. Not Elder Scrolls, not Fallout something brand new, much like Bio Ware did when then quit KOTOR and went toward Mass Effect. Everything Todd Howard has suggested this. Especially his, "don't expect a new Elder Scrolls game in the future". They are making something new and I am predicting they will announce it at QuakeCon. Get ready.

Todd said, "Near future". And "near" is relative, especially judging from what Bethesda has done/said in the past.

And don't forget, they've filed for multiple "Skyrim" trademarks in the past, and they have just recently as well.

Okay, this is definitely interesting:
"Arkane and Bethesda are now working on a unannounced title, and…well, that’s all we know about what lies ahead for the newly acquired studio."
Taken from http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/706873/QuakeCon-2010-ZeniMax-Media-Buys-Arkane-Studios.html

Wait, does this mean they're both working together on a title, or they're working separately with their own projects?

Yeah, no.
I'm almost 99% positive TES:V wont be announce at Quakecon. I could be wrong, but nothing supports it. Nothing.

Possibly, I can see your logic. Especially since he also recently said that we will have to experience long breaks in some series, and that he hopes the wait is worthwhile. However, in the same interview he also said that his team is happy with the projects they have, don't like too much on their plate, and love what they do right now. So I still believe their next game is TES:V, and that by publishing other developer's games the general gaming public sees Bethesda providing more games than just TES and Fallout. Rage, Hunted, Brink... they'll all have Bethesda's name on, and most people won't know the difference between the publisher and the developer.

I agree with you that it's unlikely, but I disagree with you about the last bit.

1. ZeniMax owns id. id runs QuakeCon.
2. Pete Hines said QuakeCon is a better place to look for an announcement than E3, stating that E3 is too big and causes a clutter of information.

I wouldn't say nothing supports it.

"We'll see the mystery game in the future, including at QuakeCon."

That's about as bright as day, man, unless he's talking about a future QuakeCon.

Hold on here, I've been confused by this. PETE said that they were working on an unannounced title. Pete isn't from BGS, he's with Bethesda Softworks.

Now, do we know absolutely that Arkane and BGS are working together on a project?

Here's a quote from Bethblog: "Arkane is currently working on an unannounced project with Bethesda Softworks."

It did not say "working with Bethesda Game Studios", but with Bethesda Softworks, which obviously means gamesas will publish Arkane's game.

True. But I have the gut feeling that Bethesda (after Oblivion) has decided that they don't want to be "defined" only by TES. Much like a movie star who plays the same type of character, in the same type of movie. If a movie star does that he eventually limits himself to other roles for other, often better films. If Bethesda can create a 3rd hugely successful game they 1) will not get bored with what they're doing and 2) can release one game from the series on each generation of consoles. Bethesda has grown tremendously over the past 10 years, which suggests that eventually they can break their teams completely up and work on games for 4-5 year cycles. I'll be the first to admit if I'm wrong, heck I hope I am because I want an new Elder Scrolls game, but I'll also be the first to say, "I told you so" when some new game is announced at QuakeCon or soon after.

I just noticed something. Tomorrows schedule starts off with building block busters, featuring todd howard, tim willits, vince and jason.

Apparently this time only lasts till 11 AM till 12PM. The next show is at 2:30PM.

All 5 of these guys are gonna talk in the same hour? Yeah right. The next show is at 2:30PM...somethings up.

But it's a cool theory, and I'll keep it in mind when the talk starts.

I didn't eat lunch till around 5PM today. :stare:

I'm just kidding, I totally forgot about that. That totally makes sense...but at the same time, I don't get how all those guys are gonna talk in less than 15 minutes.

*Elder Scrolls mmo

Nirn, in the past tes games, has been a fantasy like replica of earth. (Tamriel even looks like Asia and Europe and the Imperial City island looks like North America) Nirn has history, culture and religion but most importantly TES games have a lot of lore. Lore that is passed down to each TES game. Having ten million armor wearing quest completing heroes and villains in Tamriel at once would not be explainable by lore. The mmo that Zenimax is making is probably Fallout, maybe something else. There will be no TES MMO.

*worst idea ever

Hmmm, the Imperial Simulacrum would be the perfect setting for an MMO. I don't want an MMO, but it can be done.

The MMO could not have an end to the story you see. Each person might be a soldier in the army but the war DOES end. This would make everyone have to buy the game at the same time and finish at the same time because eventually the time frame would reach into the other games and other lore and they cant make an oblivion crisis or anything in an MMO.

One word for ya'll: Dragonbreak.

Unlimited time, everything and anything is possible, doesn't have to carry over into lore, everyone can be a hero.

Except everyone is interacting with each other. Could a dragonbreak support that? I honestly do not know.

Look, this isn't the mmo thread afterall, but seeing as how it is Bethesda's IP they can make up anything and add it to the lore to explain it.
