Official TES V Speculation Thread # 59

I really wish Todd would have defined "working."

It is directly after I finished reading this sentence that I suddeny realized we will never be satisfied with anything Beth tells us about a potential TESV.

Yeah, we just try to use common sense, add in a little wishful thinking, top that off with grasping at straws, and that's pretty much it.

oh im sorry about spelling and everything not so good at it lol, and im not giving up im just angry that we hear nothing rumors more rumors more rumors, and bethesda havnt really gave any hints what so ever which i would say isnt a good qwurk, plus wishful ect yeh alot of people thought that about swtor untill thay burst that bubble with an mmo lol.
whos to say bethesda wont do the same? its all about evidence the funny thing is we have none bethesda have gave us nothing so when thay do if thay do burst the bubble with no tes anymore thay can say we never said we are going to defo make another one for along time or at all.

Except they did say they were going to make another one.

"Both Todd and I have said repeatedly that, of course, we’re going to do another Elder Scrolls game. The last one was enormously popular. So was the one before that. You get the idea. So do we."

Well, if they've been working on it for 2 years, I believe we're going to here more about it very soon.

Consider this:
Pretty much all of Bethesda's recent games have a 4 year development cycle. Correct? Well, Oblivion's development started on 2002, after Morrowind released. Oblivion was announced on September 2004, and released on March 2006. Morrowind was much similar, starting development in '98 and releasing in 2002.

I have a feeling we're going to hear about it sometime during the first half of next year.

Going by that two year cycle between announcement and release if tesv isn't announced until 2011 we're looking at a 2013 release...yikes...

Looking at the new timeline, my feeling is that the chances of TES V being announced before 2011 are very slim. I'm thinking that they'll announce it early 2011, maybe March, and then they'll show it at E3 2011. After all, they showed Oblivion and Fallout 3 at the E3s right after their respective announcements. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

Hopefully that means they'll announce and release the second book soon.

A second book would be nice. I hope it has different characters. I want to learn more from the book.

That's pretty much my view on it. An announcement on this site, then maybe a GI cover that month. And then a video at E3, but definitely not announced at E3.

Yes there was a four year cycle before but think that they have more money for developers artists ect so it could be possible that they could make it faster. Just a possibility thou.

They filed for a new one. Apparently, all you have to do is add a few extra terms to the trademark and you can get a new one even IF you already have one for essentially the same thing.

For example, compare the old clothing trademark:
IC 025. US 022 039. G & S: Clothing, namely shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, jackets; headgear, namely, headwear.

to the new one:
IC 025. US 022 039. G & S: Clothing, namely, shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, fleece pullovers, jackets; headwear, namely, hats

That's like... a difference of 3 words.

so they pretty much said that this skyrim trademark is still needed......this and the current confirmation of them been hard at work on a game sure does suggest that it is TES5: Skyrim.....unless ZeniMax has buoght the trademark for Zenimax Online to use

Interesting read: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-16-bethesdas-todd-howard-interview?page=1

The interesting bits boil down to: Apparently their 'secret project' is very far along and it's only because they want to time the news appropriately that they're keeping it away from the public (even though there's a lot to show). Still don't know whether or not he's talking about TES V, though. Oh, and much like with previous projects, they're already thinking ahead about their next project..

Wow Very cool. He also stated the time between the announcement and release of this game will be the shortest ever. Great news for us hoping to see the game in the next year or two!

@ weirdcitizen :foodndrink:

I will just provide a summary of the three by far most important statements in this interview. These issues have already been discussed extensively in this thread and have now become quite clear.

1. "One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it and when it's out it will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along. When we show it we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now".

2. "I can say that it is on the existing plarforms, which we are really happy with. You almost feel like you have a new console when you see that game."

3. "Likewise with the new game, we were working on it during Fallout 3. We had design, we had concepts, we had stuff we knew we wanted to do."

Also a quote from todd in that interview:

You know, if Pete Hines came in and said, "I want you to show it," I'd be like, "Okay, I'm ready to show it." But we've just decided for now not to yet.

and also yeah its been confirmed for current gen.

it feels strange actually getting good information :)

This perhaps confirms what I've been saying for some time now that even if they are ready it is probably not the best strategy from a marketing point of view to announce and start advertising so close to the release of New Vegas.

Yes, it does feel strange getting some good information about the new game after all this time but I can't complain about it. :)

What if this "other game" is the MMO that's been making many fans (like myself) sick to their stomachs?

I'm finishing up morrowind right now but once i finish the main quest i'm going to go back to oblivion and start looking for a repeating name that doesn't make sense, much like we saw "oblivion" mentioned in various books and poems. So that's my goal is to rifle through as many book stores and libraries and try to find a few repeating terms or names that simply don't make sense because that very likely may blend into what the new game is going to be like once it's released. Personally I think they're going to either summerset isles, valenwood or elsweyr. They have given us a lot of history about hammerfall and skyrim and Daggerfall took place in high rock. They've used morrowind and cyrodil which makes me think the elven woods are the next place to go, especially since black marsh would probably be very similar to the area around leyawiin until you go farther south.

Please don't spoil it for everybody. At least read the opening post: "Note that Bethesda Game Studios is NOT working on Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, Brink, or Hunted: The Demon's Forge - - Nor do they develop MMOs".

You won't be able to find anything, because there's so much of each and every provence, you will get confused. Also Blackmarsh is in no terms similar to the "area around Leyawiin." Blackmarsh is the most alien Provence of them all, along with the summersets. Leyiwiin, just seemed like a small swamp with the same tree's...

Bethesda game studios does not develop MMO's. No worries. That will be done by zenimax online.

it does seem that the way the announce/release games is based on what the other companies owned by zenimax and what the games that gamesas is publishing are up to...the interview said that todd was working on a game for either the iphone or ipad, but put it aside because id was working on something as well. im willing to bet that we wont see an announcement until after FONV is released, so as not to kill the hype and sales of it. although i think they will want to announce TESV before kingdoms of amalur (which also looks like it will be pretty insane), since it is also an open-world rpg and is being designed by rolston, who knows how to do rpgs really well. expect an announcement early next year followed by a release during the 2011 holiday season (since the release time will be so short).

No mmo will be made by Bethesda, if that's what you're asking. However, I am willing to bet that Zenimax Online is making a TES MMO, especially due to a lot of the context clues in the FAQs on their site.
