Official TES V Speculation Thread # 60

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:20 am

Sorry, I haven't been here recently and I don't know what really happened at Quakecon. I've read some stuff about Todd's interview, but I don't know if I should be happy or upset. Someone please enlighten me.

They've been working on the game for a while, pre-production went on during Fallout 3's development, it will be out for this generation of consoles, they completely changed the engine for the better, and they have quite a bit of the game done, enough to show plenty if they choose to, at least.

And we know this is Elder scrolls?

And we know this is Elder scrolls?

I'm pretty sure it is. It most likely is, but it still hasn't been confirmed.

No, but logic dictates that it probably is.

Also, did anyone else interpret this quote as "We are going to continue making expansion packs"?:

"So we went into Fallout 3 with this $10 price at this pace. I can tell you that pace was fast. We had two overlapping DLC groups, tiny groups, and we did that, and the audience, they liked that rate of them coming out but it was hard. I don't know if we're going to be able to do that again.

I think at the end of the day we just want to have something that is really high quality and maybe not put so many out."

Although I'm confused as all hell, I'm guessing those two groups aren't bloods and crips...

Fallout fans and TES fans?

I was thinking two groups of people making Fallout 3 DLC, but I was referring to the

"I don't know if we're going to be able to do that again.

I think at the end of the day we just want to have something that is really high quality and maybe not put so many out."

part.

So we can see some kick ass Expansions that require all of Beth's attention...

I don't think he was talking about a "proper" expansion pack at all. I think he meant they're going to continue with smaller downloadable stuff, but focus on quality rather than quantity.

You're all conveniently ignoring this part: 'Whereas Shivering Isles, it's a $30 thing - people bought it, it did great - but it wasn't great in terms of how long it took us to do it and get it out.'.

So we're more likely to see small dlc with extremely high quality compared to large DLC or expansions due to the time involved in making those.

Think about it. They worked on Fallout 3 DLC for HOW long?

I took it to mean that instead of releasing DLC at such a fast pace as they did with Fallout 3, they'll try to take it a bit slower. It's clear they don't want to work on 1 expansion pack a year, and it's clear they don't want to make 1 DLC every 1 or 2 months, so I can only assume they want to find a middleground and plan on releasing 1 DLC every 3-5 months or so.

Well with some people thinking that there is going to be an announcement in fall 2011, but dont you think thats a little extreme? I mean January 2011 is much more likely with a release date closer to holiday season 2011 (september-early december) or maybe January 2012. It makes more sense to release one of the most anticipated games in recent history in the holiday season instead of some other time where sales would be lower. And like a few people have stated before when the other novel is released they will probably announce TESV to hype the novel to have people learn what's led up to the game.

and as far as DLC stands i'll worry about that when the time comes. Right now im just worried about TESV to be released.

I don't think it's too extreme, personally. Todd said that they're ready to show it, and if Pete wanted them to announce it right now they would have a lot to show us, but for now they've decided not to. He also said that while an announcement could be soon, he didn't want to give a general idea as to when it would be announced as it could still change. To me that means it's still a few months off, but not as far off as early 2011. November or December 2010 seems right on the money, in my opinion.

I still think they'll announce the novel either with the announcement of the game or a short time after. It will definitely get more sales that way. But of course they may still want to announce it in time for the holiday season, so they may still announce it before the game, but if they do they should do it relatively soon.

I just want to say that having to read through 15 pages of speculation because I was gone for a 24 hour period is not fun <_<

It seems a number of you have your hearts set on an announcement in February's GI. Seems to be a rather arbitrary date, so why then?

There's an update at UESP that pretty much recaps what we've been talking about. I'll post it here because I think it offers a great summary of all these pages of QuakeCon discussion, and shows some reason to be optimistic.

The only important news to come out of QuakeCon so far this year is a statement from Todd Howard that Bethesda http://www.vg247.com/2010/08/13/bethesda-confirms-new-project-in-development/ and that it has been in development for two years.

Previous rumors had suggested that a new installment of The Elder Scrolls would be announced at QuakeCon, which finishes on Sunday, August 15 this year. The last installment of the series, Oblivion was released over four years ago, so a new game is well overdue.

UPDATE: In a http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-16-bethesdas-todd-howard-interview released on 16 August, Todd Howard gives a few more details. "One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now.

"You know, if Pete Hines came in and said, "I want you to show it," I'd be like, "Okay, I'm ready to show it." But we've just decided for now not to yet."

Well it is not got do with fallout because bethesda said around fallout's release that the next fallout will come out in 3 years and since new Vegas is coming out in December(or October I forget which)so that is almost 3 years so we won't be seeing a fallout from bethesda any time soon and since this project will probably be released in October next year so they are probably making a new elder scrolls.

If you read throu that many pages you should be pretty up-to-date on everything and all the evidence. Basically they have been working for 2 years, they arent ready to announce yet but should be soon. There is normally a 4 year turn around for TES games but with the bigger staff now we can assume that they will be able to produce it faster and they would want to release it around holiday season for maximun profit. i.e kids christmas list

That was a really, really good interview. Btw, the first post in this thread needs to be updated with two new interviews, especially this last one. They are the only source of information right now. Newest interviews also need to be on top, not on the bottom. It's just common sense. People want to read the new stuff first, not something that was new in April 2009.

I think based on Todd Howard saying he is ready to announce the game now, that they've been working on it with full force for two years, and the talk about tech, we should expect an announcement within the next six months or so. My window is between mid-October 2010 and mid-March 2011 for a reveal. And a release in H2 2011. Todd did say that they expect to have the shortest time between reveal and release, so if they announce the game during the window I expect (which is also VERY broad) then I think the game will hit shelves by Holiday 2011.

And I'd say it's about 80% likely to be TESV. 5-10% Fallout, and 10-15% something new.

I'm sure one of their two projects is Fallout 4, but it's almost certainly the project that's only in pre-production. If they were focusing on making Fallout 4, having Obsidian make New Vegas would have been a waste of time considering Fallout 4 wouldn't be too far off. New Vegas was a way for Bethesda to make TES V while still having a new Fallout game out there for people to enjoy. As much as I'm excited for Fallout 4 it's clear that it wont come until long after TES V is released. Of course the exact amount of time we'll have to wait will be determined by when exactly Bethesda releases TES V.
