Official TES V Speculation Thread # 60

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:35 am

I think based on Todd Howard saying he is ready to announce the game now, that they've been working on it with full force for two years, and the talk about tech, we should expect an announcement within the next six months or so. My window is between mid-October 2010 and mid-March 2011 for a reveal. And a release in H2 2011. Todd did say that they expect to have the shortest time between reveal and release, so if they announce the game during the window I expect (which is also VERY broad) then I think the game will hit shelves by Holiday 2011.

And I'd say it's about 80% likely to be TESV. 5-10% Fallout, and 10-15% something new.

Highfive for simular views :celebration: lol

and antibody i very well doubt that they are working on both projects at once since the same team basically does both games. I'm pretty sure working on those two project for one team would not be very very unlikely but it is possible

I'm sure one of their two projects is Fallout 4, but it's almost certainly the project that's only in pre-production. If they were focusing on making Fallout 4, having Obsidian make New Vegas would have been a waste of time considering Fallout 4 wouldn't be too far off. New Vegas was a way for Bethesda to make TES V while still having a new Fallout game out there for people to enjoy. As much as I'm excited for Fallout 4 it's clear that it wont come until long after TES V is released. Of course the exact amount of time we'll have to wait will be determined by when exactly Bethesda releases TES V.

What I meant by a long time is next gen basically fallout 4 is probably going to be on the next gen consoles.

Yeah most likely FO4 is going to be a ways off. I assume that BGS is gonna step back and take TES by the horns and make an absolute great game.

That means that there is very likely an ES5 that is in good enough shape to be shown out there as we speak but we can't see it yet. Gonna go cry for a while.

I'm glad he said it, as it's the closest to an announcement that we're going to get for a few months. I for one am much happier knowing that they've made a lot of progress and are close to an announcement then I was a few days ago when we were still wondering if it would even be released for current gen consoles. Bethesda is usually super quiet about things like this so it was very nice of him to say anything at all, imo.

Yeah you have a point, they aren't known for telling what they have going on. And this is first actual thing they have really said about it and it doesnt actually say that it is TESV

I am definitely glad he said it , especially the part about where he said its gonna be the fastest between announcement and release they have done. Still bittersweet knowing its out there ready to be shown but my eyes aren't seeing it.

Agreed. This is about as much as I had hoped for. In many ways it's actually good for us that they didn't announce it at QC and don't plan to announce it for a little while. Now we know that they have done a very good amount of work, enough work to have a presentable product, and yet they're going to take a few more months to add even more content, polish it up, etc. This way when we do start seeing screens and trailers and previews and gameplay and developer diaries () we'll have even MORE to see, and we'll know that the final product is going to be that much greater in quality. I'm happy to take a few extra months of waiting in exchange for more content and a higher quality end product. Though I'm still extremely excited for the day that some concrete information is released!

From the interview with Todd:
the majority of Bethesda's 90 or so staff are beavering away on the new game, which has been in development for two years

He says the majority of Bethesda`s staff, which means there have to be one HUGE game. It just got to be TES V.

in development for two years

Im guessing they started with working on the game engine right after Oblivion, which was released in 2006. Two years with perfecting the game engine until 2008, then 2 years with massive game developement. Which brings me to the next point:

One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along

They have come such a long way because their previous work on the game engine, and it has made development easier and much faster. And this makes me also believe that it just have to be TES V, because the only game they can produce and make fast is a game they have experience with before, THE ELDER SCROLLS SERIES.

The elder scrolls V, here we come. Im thinking 2011 release. :foodndrink:

Not that its new to people on here but that puts the final nail in the coffin on any MMO talk. Any game with extensive multiplayer needs to be extensively beta tested by the public and that means its announced considerably ahead of time. I know that everyone on here already knew that but that's just more proof.

Enthusiastically agreed.

This was far more than I had hoped to hear out of Quakecon, and far and away the most significant and concrete sign of TESV since they announced the novels.

Confirmed that lots of work has been underway, that the game is on current hardware, that there is enough put together already that they could do a reveal any day.

That is a grandslam when I was only hoping for a single.

There are good solid business reasons why Pete Hines hasn't said 'show it', but in the meantime, we've been given a strong wink and a nudge to hold us over until there is a suitable gap in the marketing cycle to drop the bomb.

I am quite confident that this (by "this" I mean the game approaching announcement) is TESV (and not just because of what I have been reading on this forum).

The very fact that it is the same engine as TES and FO suggests so - does the market have room for more epic games by BGS in the same format as TES and FO (and I mean marketability - as certainly from my perspective I would play BGS epic games and nothing else)? If this is Gamebryo then it's going to be an open world style RPG, and BGS risk diluting their identity if they introduce a third big hitter. And we know it's not going to be FO4 as FONV is just around the corner. Ergo, TES.

Todd et al will also be acutely aware that there is a massive expectation that this is TESV. If it is not they would be much better off saying that it isn't TESV now than enduring a backlash from fans the world over when whatever else it is is announced. Any other game that is announced now will become more known as "not TESV" than whatever it actually is.

If ya get my drift.

My guess is that they have been working on TES V alone for 2 years, and they are working with Arkane studios to make a second game

No. The game they are working on with Arkane is purely a publishing thing, Bethesda Game Studios has nothing to do with it. They've been working on 2 games for a while, TES V for 2 years and Fallout 4 for a while, but not nearly as long.

Hey everyone. I read this thread every single day, but prefer to watch all of your ideas rather than enter the flame war myself. However, I couldn't help but notice that some people are unsure that Todd's soon-to-be-announced project is ESV after all. Forgive me if someone has already pointed this out recently, but I remembered this:

TH: I would say that we have pretty much the same team. I've worked with a lot of guys for over 10 years – the group that did Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. We just really enjoy doing what we're doing. We don’t want to be doing a ton of stuff. There will definitely be – and I'm glad everybody’s patient with us – gaps and sometimes bigger gaps between the titles. We hope it's worth the payoff. Thanks for your patience and bear with us. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

This quote, especially the bolded part, suggest that Todd's project is not a new IP, which I'm sure most of you aware of. It would also be ridiculous for it to be Fallout 4 before another ES title. Considering these facts, it is almost certain that Bethesda's next game will be ESV.

IG: Is there an estimate of when there will be an announcement? You know, an announcement about an announcement!

(laughter)

TH: We do have an estimate, but I'm not allowed to talk about it. Even right now it's an estimate.

I, for one, do not believe Todd is an idiot. He knew EXACTLY what the interviewer was referring to (an ESV announcement) and he also responded saying that they do, in fact, have announcement plans. Todd knows the painful silence we have endured from Beth, and I for one believe this is Todd's way of giving us hope and unofficially announcing ESV without putting his [censored] and career in the fire.

YES, I'm aware this interview was posted on the forums earlier, but it seemed relevant to the current discussion and if I renewed at least one person's hope, I consider this post a success.

Back to my silent observing now. :)

edit: http://www.industrygamers.com/news/bethesdas-todd-howard-on-rpg-development-3d-not-supporting-nintendo-and-more/2/ added article link for anyone curious. as I said it's been posted before. (maybe should add this and the newest interview to first page? looks like the last one in that list was in May.)

My idea is thus:

As has been shown by the Eurogamer interview, development on the new project is fairly far along, and also they intend to have a shorter gap between announcement and release. The latter likely because the rampant fan speculation turned expectations a bit too high in the gap for Oblivion. My train of thought then ran forward, following the speculation that they don't want to overtax their marketing department so they are waiting to push out the published games (which will also net a bit of a higher budget, one would think). Therefore, to have free hands in marketing, a shorter wait, and some extra cash, we wait until at least October, possibly later, however aside from ruling out the "look back over the year" issue, I see little way of narrowing down just which one it would be.

Ok, so IC was announced in October of 09, with a release in November. If they follow the same publishing schedule, then here is my announcement theory:

Book announced end of november with a january release, but preorders available during the holiday season.

Just previous to the book's release, TESV is announced by way of GI cover for Feb. to drive up book sales (so we can see what happens to the lore :) )

TESV is shown off at GDC in san fran in february with a release date set for holiday season (since the turnaround is short).

TESV gets released in October/November, and we start on another 300 hours of TES.

October... wha? Where'd you get that? They announced the book in April 2009 and released it in November 2009. I think speculating on the book's release date other than "before or after the game's announcement" is pointless honestly. It makes sense that they'd want to release it in time for the holiday season of this year but unless it's announced soon I don't know if it will happen.
