Official TES V Speculation Thread # 60

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:37 am

You see, guys. They are working on their game past the point in the game's development that they normally announce it.

SO FAR there are basically two theories and those are that the game won't be announced until Greg Keyes is done with the book because the book gives great opportunity for more money.

The second theory is that Fallout New Vegas has yet to be released. The games are published by the same company and are both open world RPGs.

I personally think that both factor are contributing to Pete Hines decision to keep it held back for a while.

We will see an announcement on Game Informer around the time the book is reviled.

We will see a game release shortly after the book comes out.

I dont think it will be held back, I mean there arent many games coming out at the moment that could compete, a nice gap TES can fill and benefir of, no competition, and more people play because less interesting games.
I am going to be gutted if this isnt tes v though. I wonder what place it will be in after the imperial city got totally [censored] over.

Also books can help, fable 3 has a book, and its linked to the game with a dlc code... They will be leaked but its a link, the 2 dont have to compete.

That's rubbish! Nobody listens to me either! AND I have a shiny badge. :(

On topic, though: OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG I can't wait to see whatever it is Beth have been working on, whenever they decide to show it. Eeeeeeeeh!!!!! *bounce bounce bounce*

My money's still on PAX for the announcement. It's logical, captain.

Seconded. Last year they had one of the biggest booths, rivaling even Nintendos!

But an announcement is different than a release. According to some people in this thread, Bethesda couldn't even announce it until September 2011 because they may "hurt the hype of their published games."

I don't think announcing TESV before Rage or Hunted will hurt their hype, seeing as how there are absolutely no gameplay elements in common beside killing things. However, FONV has the open-world aspect in common with TES, and there is a possibility someone might pass up FONV if they knew TESV was on the way. Like I said before, if you are interested in more than one kind of game, but don't want to spend tons of money every year on games, you pick and choose in ways that gives you the best of each kind of game you want. Not everyone takes into account the announcement to release time, and so many would forfeit FONV for TESV if it was announced.

Well hopefully the book won't be reviled, but it is nice to see some good info finally!

Even if they haven't confirmed it's TESV. But you gotta be sure it is.

Regardless of whatever it is that is holding back the announcement, we know it's been in the gears for a while, and a finite amount of time exists between now and it's announcement and eventual release.

Cheers! :foodndrink:

Personally... I know if ESV was announced today, I'd probably go out and preorder FONV and play it several times over to get ready for ESV. Right now, I'll buy it, but I don't see the rush.

I can't begin to imagine the type of person who would see TES V announced and think "Well, New Vegas is coming out in 2 months, and I really want that, but... TES V has no release date... so... uuuuhh... uuuuuhhhh... Imma wait to get TES V!!!"

I think it's important to note that even though they might not want to ruin the hype, it could also be because they quite a lot on their publishing plate right now. They will probably try to get one out of the door before they announce another game. Keep in mind they are publishing about 4 new games in the near future. Adding another could potentially saturate the market. And also, they don't want to heavily market one game while completely ignoring others. I'm sure Pete appreciates a tolerable workload, rather than one that makes him want to crawl in a dark hole every day.

I suppose they were hiring marketing under-studies, but still, it seems they're waiting to get a few games out the door before blowing the door off with an ES bomb.

Man IDK. I am a gamer.I will likely buy it anyways. If anything FONV is going to make people who jumped on TES with Oblivion start asking about another TES game . I mean most people are cluless and probably think BGS made FONV and are wondering where Oblivion 2 is.(This is a joke) But seriously,I buy games that look good. FONV sales will likely benefit from an announcement soon. From a marketing standpoin,if TESV is a year or more out ,other "published titles" would be fine. not announcing TESV b/c u publish games is ridiculous. Bethesda softworks is stacking publishing paper while BGS is ready to start stacking ES $.

I actually don't think it'll be PAX. Now, I may be wrong. I went to PAX East, and it might be different from PAX Prime, but the sense I got is that it was more about the gamer culture of which I am such a happy part than the game business which would be announcements and such. Although that interview is reassuring (the Eurogamer one) and if you assume that they'll do another cover story (like I am) to announce then it'll likely be soon, on a cover.

Or, who knows, maybe Todd will just hop on here in this thread and tell us outright.

Great interview and great news. But man, if this "new game" turned out to be anything other than TESV, my resulting fury would tear open a portal to Oblivion...

That would be way better than TESV

Seems a bit soon, but perhaps...

I'm leaning toward a simultaneous GI cover story and Elderscrolls website announcement in November or December. Then again, if they physically want to "show a lot" of the game, maybe a conference presentation is in order.

On the new interview that was just linked to in CD (not sure if it's been mentioned here yet): Todd Howard -- "I think at the end of the day we just want to have something that is really high quality and maybe not put so many out." Could this mean Bethesda is going to return to something more akin to the classic expansion pack, instead of these smaller DLC minded add-ons? I certainly hope so.

I think it has more to do with dragging away peoples attention from the game than making them decide.

Hype doesn't really matter once a game is released (FO:NV)

Yes, but FO:NV has not been released yet.

During that panel I remember Todd saying something about PAX and how he showed off Oblivion there. From a psychological stand point, the first thing that comes to mind is usually related to whats on your mind. :)

Like I said, not all people know the announcement to release timeline for bethesda. For most companies it's less than a year. And if you weren't sure but were a bigger fan of TES than of FONV, you would try to find some info online. And, guaranteed, there will be plenty of respectable sites speculating a holidays 2011 release. With the new AC game and Reach coming out this holiday season, many people will pass up new vegas and fill their time with these games because they like them too (it's what I'm doing). If there was no info on TES at all, then I would be more swayed to buy FONV, and wait on ACB. But, since I keep up with the forums and have some info on TES, I'm just going to put off FONV and get TES instead, since they are both open world rpgs.

I know that they are very different games, but it's the expansive world that I seek in these games, so to me they have the same value.

I don't know how many people actually know how much it costs to market a game. I come from a journalism background, and am quite familiar with marketing. This is how the media makes their money.

Look at the Game Informer chart.
http://gameinformer.com/p/PrintAdSpecs.aspx

Times that by 4 games and you need a crap ton of money. I can understand if Bethesda want to hold out to budget for ESV. Lets not forget, showing up at PAX and E3 and such aren't cheap either. I just think that if they're going to wait, it's probably due to money not because they're worried about hype-killing. I still believe they'll announce it before the end of the year. I know if they announce it before FONV, I'm going to play the crap out of NV.

"Note that Bethesda Game Studios is NOT working on Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, Brink, or Hunted: The Demon's Forge -- Nor do they develop MMOs."

This little snippet of text at the bottom of the main post basically confirms that Bethesda Game Studios is working on The Elder Scrolls V and it's not an MMO. We know that they ARE working on something, so unless it's an entirely new IP (which I don't know why they would do that; TES is the greatest RPG franchise of all time as far as I'm concerned) we at least know that they are definitely making The Elder Scrolls V.
