Official TES V Speculation Thread # 60

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:12 am

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1105916-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-172/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Note that Bethesda Game Studios is NOT working on Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, Brink, or Hunted: The Demon's Forge -- Nor do they develop MMOs.

Todd did say that they are ready to announce it and show a lot of stuff, but, for an unexplained reason, want to wait.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-16-bethesdas-todd-howard-interview?page=1

there's a lot of game there to play right now.

You know, if Pete Hines came in and said, "I want you to show it," I'd be like, "Okay, I'm ready to show it." But we've just decided for now not to yet.

Thus, I am expecting it to be announced very soon. (Within the next nine months) :)

After following this thread for almost 2 years, I'm finally excited to hear that Bethesda is in full-on production of one game, and doing early work on another. I just can't help but think this new game that's in full on production is ESV...

That's something I've been thinking about ever since I read that interview.
I honest to God hope they aren't talking about TES:V, because 2 years? That's not near enough time to bring us a game as detailed as Morrowind, which is what we want. Unless they've just got an insane staff of double that of Morrowinds/Oblivions and they are pulling 20 hour days, yeah, I hope it's not TES:V.

They were working on it during FO3 which was around 2007, therefore this is their 3rd year working it. So if they release it next year that will be 4 year working on it which is what they did with Morrowind and Oblivion.

Yeah, I think the reason they're waiting to announce it is because of New Vegas, like Mankar said in the last thread. Todd said they're ready to show it, so... Why has he decided, "no not just yet"?

To the people who think "I hope it isn't TESV because they haven't spent enough time on it" or whatever, keep in mind Bethesda has grown by leaps and bounds in the last several years. With a larger team, it's not going to take them four years to put out a game anymore.

As i said in the last thread...

I don't think we should see an announcement until after this holiday season...they don't want to kill the hype and sales of FONV during the biggest gift season of the year. I think we will get a book announcement very soon, with a release early next year. The game will be announced just before the book's release to make people want to buy the book to see what happens in the lore, then a game release for the 2011 holiday season, since the turnaround time is going to be so short.

If that's the case then do you think we could expect the December GI (released in November) to be TES V? Sounds likely to me.

Maybe, but I'm thinking more of a February GI cover released in January.

Good point. gamesas might not want FNV sales to be potentially hurt during the holiday season if people know that TES V (or whatever game BGS is ready to announce) is just around the corner, considering this time the time between announcement and release will be the shortest yet.

Maybe the game Bethesda Studios has recently started working on is a large expansion-type-thing for the project they have already been working on for 2 years (presumably TES V) ?
Or perhaps i'm being too optimistic.
Anyway, if the new project turns out to be anything but Elder Scrolls, i'll eat my theoretical hat.

Unfortunately not, BGS has stated that they no longer make expansion packs. :(

If announced early next year we could expect the game to be holiday season 2011, or a little sooner (september-november) the biggest maketing time of the year. Just in time to get the big sales and the kids can ask for it for the holidays.

It probably will be. And if it is not, look on the bright side, they will have an even better engine for it.

I'm really hoping it's TES:V, I can't handle another "no show", especially if it's been made with an improved version of Fallout 3's engine that makes it feel like you're "playing on a new console"... even though I use my computer. I mean, if it's a bigger jump from Oblivion to Fallout 3, I'm psyched.

I made a list of Oblivion to Fallout 3.

  • Separate Meshes for Old, advlt, Young advlt, and Child Heads
  • Separate head configurations for male/female
  • More visual effects (concussion, drugs, etc.)
  • Unique meshes being able to be added onto actors
  • Effects on the water (explosions)
  • Throw-able weapons (mainly grenades)
  • Children
  • Hair Cuts
  • Random NPC Encounters
  • Better Animations and adaptable animations (walking up hills makes the character's legs move differently)
  • Nav-Mesh
  • Semi-Destructible Surroundings (cars)
  • Dismemberment
  • Animation Markers
  • Facial Hair
  • Face Pre-Sets
  • Traps you can set
  • Much better AI
    • They'll tell you to stop swinging things so close to them
    • Run for cover
    • Beg for mercy
    • Respond to missed shots
    • Have more AI options

  • Ability to talk to certain creatures
  • Better physics
  • Place-able Water (Mainly good for modders)
  • Injuries
  • Locational Damage
  • Ability to make weapons
  • NPCs with the ability to have different voices even if they're the same race without custom dialogue needed.

And there's a lot that I've missed. And the new engine has even more additions.

I don't see why announcing a game will affect the sales of another completely unrelated game? Unless Elder Scrolls fans are extremely poor and can only afford to buy just one game a year...

It probably will be. And if it is not, look on the bright side, they will have an even better engine for it.

I also don't see why Bethesda Studios would create any other game franchise apart from The Elder Scrolls and Fallout at the moment. They both still have plenty of potential left, in fact, The Elder Scrolls universe is a gaming goldmine, with all its established lore and what not.

I don't buy (no pun intended) all this "sales being hurt" nonsense. I really doubt sales would be hurt from two very different games being released close to each other..most people can shell out 120 bucks a year on 2 games.

thank you lol :celebration: but lets just hope this isnt another bunch of unecessary hype that turns to be nothing like said above. Because it has been done before.
But this definatly is the most optimistic we have been able to be since literally ESIV

I posted this in the last thread, but it got lost in Betrayer of Humanity's storm of negativity.

Anyway, I know some people here are sick of the whole Game Informer cover thing, but I think it's important to pay attention to. Bethesda's last two games have had GI covers, so we can almost be certain this upcoming game will too. After reading the newest interview with Todd Howard, which was amazing, informative, and totally exciting by the way, I have a new prediction: We will see TES V on a GI cover before the end of 2010. My money's on the December issue(which comes out in November). That will give New Vegas a month of breathing room to sell and not be distracted by the hype train that will be following a TES V announcement. Todd Howard says they're ready to show the game now and that they're waiting on the go ahead from Pete Hines. The only foreseeable reason to wait is to keep the focus on New Vegas getting strong sales. I know we don't know for sure that TES V is their next game, but come on... Anyone with half a brain knows that TES V is Bethesda's current project and Fallout 4 is the game in the preproduction stages.

Also, I know it may be a long shot but what about a Games Con announcement??? That's "soon" isn't it?

I would look for a cover of Game Informer announcement of The Elder Scrolls V after the announcement of the next TES book.

One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us.

This makes me happy, as annoying as this one thread can get once they announce their project we'll have a whole forum of these threads! :hehe:

I kid (well only a little). However this is something I like to hear in general as a lengthy pre-release period tends to result in a small trickle of information. Developers are wary to release anything substantial early on lest it be changed, something which can lead to massive fan backlash, and this really cuts down on what we're hearing early on. More problematic, with little information the fans tend to over-anolyze what we do get which can readily lead to wild conclusions - which of course makes the developers more guarded about what they say which further restricts the information we get which just keeps the cycle going. In my opinion ~9 months is a good amount of time, you don't want too little time or the hype bubble will get too much momentum.

I can say it is on the existing platforms, which we're really happy with.

I've suspected this for a while but it's nice to have confirmation. If Bethesda was planning on a next generation game we wouldn't be hearing about it for ages, probably not until next spring at the earliest. I think there's a good chance we'll be hearing about their next project in early 2011. They may have a bit of a window between New Vegas' release and the holiday season really getting in to gear but that's a period where the gaming media tends to focus more on game releases rather than game announcements so early 2011 seems like a safer bet to me.

To the people who think "I hope it isn't TESV because they haven't spent enough time on it" or whatever, keep in mind Bethesda has grown by leaps and bounds in the last several years. With a larger team, it's not going to take them four years to put out a game anymore.

Very true. Bethesda's expansion happened near the end of Oblivion's developement and it allowed them to work on two games concurrently providing the developement was staggered (that is, FO3 could be in pre-production while TES IV was in QA since each phase generally required different developers). As Todd mentions in that article it also lets them put everyone on one project if they want to.

Two years development -possibly excluding pre-production-, I'd love to see what the game looks like now. As for those worrying that two years isn't enough, stop worrying. The game isn't likely to come out in the next year, so you're looking at, at least three years dev time. And that's still being optimistic. I have a nagging feeling that we won't see TES:V until 2012.

I'm a little disappointed that they are still using Gamebryo- but then again there are a lot of benefits to working with that engine.
