Official TES V Speculation Thread # 61

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 8:51 am

Bethesda has 3 IPs to manage (The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and IHRA Drag Racing Talking Horses, obviously), but they're only making 2 games. I wonder which one they aren't working on...

Damn... I gotta admit, I really don't think they're working on TES V. They know Fallout will do well, and they know that DRTH will be the game of the decade, so I guess they figured TES V has to take a back seat. I don't blame them though... no developer in their right mind would pass up on DRTH.

They just did FO3 and FO:NV is coming out soon so why the hell would they do FO4 and let TES diminish in interest?

Antibody, your sarcasm is cracking me up.

Don't forget the myriad of Terminator games Bethesda made, some even before Arena. The new Terminator film is supposed to be computer animated and in 3D, so maybe Bethesda is working on the tie in for that?

Nah, that's most likely something EA is going to publish. And it'll be for the Wii... since it won't have any more than a T for Teen rating, just like the movie is not going to be R rated.

I think Fallout 4 might actually be the one they aren't working on aside from this new mystery project. This may be wishful thinking on my part, but it is possible that they are going to do TESVI within 3 years after TESV, then do a Fallout 4 soon after that.

Isn't it the least bit possible that Bethesda (Game Studios if I recall) could be developing NEW I.P. that has heretofore not been seen? Why would this project their working have to be, by definition, from an existing franchise? Not saying I think it is something new, but surely the possibility must exist. Nothing I've read here indicates to me in anyway that TES V is "guaranteed" to be in production. All it tells me is that -a- game of some sort is being worked on, a game which -may- be TES -related-. As they say, anything more than that is pure speculation, and no that's not an oblique attempt at a pun. I guess I'm just curious as to why everyone seems so convinced of things at this point. It's a likely enough assumption, but I submit there's at least one alternative that could just as easily be true. Good day.

Nah, after reading a lot of interviews with the devs at Obsidian making New Vegas, it's almost guaranteed Fallout 4 is at least in pre-production. They talk about Bethesda wanting to save certain things for something they want to do, and talk about them stopping Obsidian from doing certain things at all- and unless Bethesda just likes stopping Obsidian from doing certain things for the hell of it I can only imagine it means they are planning Fallout 4 already.

Don't expect me to be able to find a link to it but Todd Howard, or someone from Bethesda, said a while back that they don't like, and I'm paraphrasing, having too much on their plate. I think they realize that 2 extremely successful IPs is enough and a 3rd IP would just be stretching their resources too thin.

Given how well-known the Horse Armor DLC is Bethesda would be stupid not to take this to the next level.

Bethesda hasn't had the Terminator license for years I'm afraid.

Isn't it the least bit possible that Bethesda (Game Studios if I recall) could be developing NEW I.P. that has heretofore not been seen? Why would this project their working have to be, by definition, from an existing franchise?

That is a possibility but in my opinion an unlikely one.

TES III and TES IV were both very popular and received a tremendous amount of critical acclaim - it seems strange that they would decide to let this sit fallow. The Grey Keyes novels also seem like an odd choice if they weren't planning on an Elder Scrolls game in the near future - why pursue a book deal a few years after the last Elder Scrolls game if you weren't planning on something in the relatively near future?

Now it's very possible, I would even say likely, that Zenimax Online Studios is working on an Elder Scrolls MMORPG. I suppose this could be what the books are building up to but given how difficult it is to get in to the MMO market wouldn't it make sense to have TES V in the works at the same time as an Elder Scrolls MMORPG? Let's please remember that this is not a thread for speculating on a TES MMO, my point is that it makes sense for Bethesda to be working on TES V if ZOS is working on an Elder Scrolls game.

I'm markin', I'm markin'! :P

I think they're gonna reveal the book at pax.

If they DO make an MMO, maybe a beta password in pre-ordered TES: V's?

Or maybe they pull a 'New Vegas' and tell Arkane to make a third adventures game, a year or two after TES V.

I think the game will be released in october/november 2011 for the holiday season, with the cover of the February 2011 GI (which is released in January).

On another note...has anyone considered that the game in pre-production is a new IP? Maybe Obsidian will take on the Fallout series and BGS will start a new IP for the next gen consoles.

Fallout 3 started developement before Oblivion went gold; it's quite possible that this new game started developement before Fallout 3 went gold. In fact if it is TES V it could have easily started pre-production right after Oblivion was released.

Todd Howard did say they worked on their next project before Fallout 3 went gold. Probably pre-production.

I think it's just absurd to think that they aren't working on an Elder Scrolls game. I mean it is a possibility, yes, but a very small one at that. I recall Todd saying in an interview the whole reason of having Obsidian do FO:NV was so the Fallout fans wouldn't have to wait 8-10 years for some more Fallout, or if it wasn't the reason I believe he was saying it was a plus. With that in mind, it leads me to believe that they do actually care about their fanbase, and listen to what they want. And by fanbase I don't just mean the people on these forums, but all of the people who played their games and craved for more.

To me it just makes sense that they would let Obsidion do a Fallout game to bridge the gap for Fallout fans while they work on the next Elder Scrolls.

And as far as a new IP goes, idk, it really could be a possibility, more than another Fallout game. It could be the one that they're working on now, while TESV is in pre-production. But, I don't know, I just highly doubt that's the case.

While I see what you're saying, and it is a possibility, It's unlikely, for reasons Antibody and others have stated. For one, Beth don't own Obsidian, so i doubt they bought the rights to Fallout just to farm it out to a third party. Beth likes the franchise, they bought it so they could work on it

Why would Todd bother mentioning all this at Quakecon then make an announcement next year? I Think it will be announced sooner than most folk think. I cant see many games coming out on PC/Console's that sound exciting enough for Beth to hold back.
DEC would be the perfect Christmas present :celebration:

Good catch. I did not clarify my post. I was responding to the little argument over interpreting Todd's statement that they had been working on the game for two years - which we can now understand to mean full production and would have began when Fallout 3 went gold (or just shortly before).

I have a question.

Why is it that some sites say that Infernal City is the first of a two-book series?

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/k/j-gregory-keyes/infernal-city.htm
http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-Infernal-City/dp/0345508017
http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/display.pperl/9780345508010.html

I thought that was just guesses and speculation, not fact.

Hmm... can't seem to find it on the website, but I think it was before the Infernal City was named the first book (or it might have been at the same time) they had and announcement on their website that they were going to have two Elder Scrolls books made by the author Greg Keyes.

When Bethesda announced The Infernal City, they also announced that there would another book after it. It's 100% fact that a second book will be released at some point, we just have no idea when.

There is going to be a second book Ontopic: Not to be pessimistic but when he said if Pete Hines told him to announce it now he would I got a bad feeling because if it is tes v then wouldn't they want the book to be announced first?
