Official TES V Speculation Thread # 62

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:02 am

There are plently of games that look very good and run on the 360 so theres no reason it cant be done on TES V with the current systems. Sure there would be alot of room for improvement as can be seen in many of those games, but by now the xbox 360 has been out for about 5 years and Bethesda should know its limitations by now.

Anyway. On to the matter at hand. If theyre ready to show it WHY DONT THEY. cmon weve been begging to see it for years, now they tell us that theyre ready and just waiting, waiting for what? waiting for an angry mob of gamers to storm their offices damanding to see it. Cmon i mean seriously, stop teasing us.

"Will they rush it for christmas?"

I doubt it will be 9-12 months if their already able to release maybe 6 months but i doubt 9-12 but if they do wait longer to release that means more time for advertising and interviews but best of all more game play by that I mean quests, factions etc

Well, Mass Effect 2 ran a lot better than the first Mass Effect on my computer, and this is regarding the fact that I bought the two together and ran them under the same specs. Oblivion was also badly optimized, so if Bethesda manages to pull off TES: V quite well, then we'll have less to worry about.

Yep.

I had to run Oblivion on Medium Quality when I got Fallout 3, and I could run that on the highest quality with no lagging. I've upgraded by now, but then it was shocking how much of a difference there was.

As a PS3 player, I really hope you either are greatly exaggerating or that Bethesda could put a little more thought into giving us what they give the players of the other platforms. Going by the GOTY editions, Oblivion runs much better on my PS3 than Fallout 3 does.

Anti-aliasing killed me. I don't think the PS3 has anti-aliasing.

Fallout 3 still has less stuttering and lags than Oblivion, is almost definitely my mods. Oblivion has been noted as being poorly optimized though. Still, I could run Fallout 3 with full anti-aliasing and everything with no repercussions on my old card, but in Oblivion I'd lag up a storm.

He's not lying. Fallout 3 runs better on my PC than Oblivion does. I can have 'em both at Ultra High, but FO3 runs way smoother.

Bethesda's got some explaining to do. :sadvaultboy:

Todd's comment on the new engine looking like that of a new console has me intrigued. Can they optimize that well all of a sudden?

Well, 4 years is hardly "all of the sudden." :D

I'm psyched, picture how the characters must look!

It's been two years, really, and the hardware, in the case of the consoles, hasn't changed in the past 4 years. They also only released the DLC for the PS3 version late last year, and it was the culprit for the constant lagging/freezing of the PS3 version. Point Lookout/The Pitt/Broken Steel/Operation Anchorage are pure crap, performance-wise(Was this on PCs, at all?). I would describe certain parts of the experiences as powerpoints or worse, in the case of freezing.

9-12 months from the reveal... I expect that the reveal itself will come between November and February or so, so like 3-6 months until we hear about the game, and 9-12 months from then until it hits shelves. Meaning I expect it to be in stores in time for Holiday 2011.

Also they aren't ready to release it at all, Todd just said he'd be ready to SHOW it, which probably means they have a lot of work yet to do but they've done a lot of basic stuff like character models/animations, landscape design, buildings, weapons/armor, etc.

The DLCs run fine on the PC. For me, at least.

Nah, I think they're thinking more about it now, they talked about it feeling like you're "playing on a new console". I just wish the PS3 could download mods. :( It feels so unfair, and I'm one of the ones making mods... usually they're all for myself 'cause I think people won't like them, but people on consoles definitely deserve them.

Nah I don't think so. It was their first shot at it I believe.

I think I remember Morrowind being the same way on the original xbox, iirc.

It was their first shot at the Xbox 360 too so that is not the issue. The issue was and is that the PS3 is notoriously hard to develop for. When a game developed for multiplle platforms the PS3 always ends up looking worst, well, almost always.
I hope that BGS has gotten better at the PS3 even though im a 360 gamer. I just do not want TES V to be getting any bad reviews! :P

Look at games like Red Dead: Redemption, Just Cause 2, etc. Quite a contrast to Oblivion. The potential's certainly there.

I don't really buy that whole 'PS3 is hard to develop for' thing now. It's been out long enough for devs to have gotten the hang of it. If companies like Naughty Dog and Guerilla can produce such awesome looking games with smooth-as-butter gameplay then there's no excuse for anyone else not being able to do it either.

I'm excited by Todd's remarks about it looking like it's being played on a new console but the Fallout 3 GOTY edition for PS3 is a nasty reminder of how companies can get PS3 versions so horribly wrong.

As good as Fallout 3 looked on the 360 and probably the PS3, I highly doubt it hardly pushed the limits of what these machines are capable of. I hope the upgrades that Bethesda made will help that.

Both of those companies put out console exclusives, Drakes Fortune and Killzone, exclusively for the PS3 --- they did not have to worry about creating games across all platforms. Even if they did, I can bet my monies that they did not look as nice as KIllzone 2 and Drakes fortune 2.

Like Riveon said, Just cause 2 really pushed the bounds in terms of sandbox. That world was massive, though probably mostly randomly populated.

It is not unusual for developers to hype their games and in particular their graphics so don't take at face value just about everything Todd Howard says. Bioware also said that Dragon Age 2 will have super hot graphics but from what we've seen so far this is obviously not the case. The Xbox 360 uses a GPU which is a variant of the Radeon X1800 and the PS3 uses a a GPU which is a variant of the GeForce 7800. Both GPUs are already 4 generations behind and are thought as obsolete even by the standards of an entry low end PC. Regardless of what the Bethesda hype machine says I think that we can realistically expect TESV to look only slightly better than Fallout 3 but it will probably be much better optimized and have much better animations. If we want next gen or super hot graphics we have to either play a game like the Witcher 2 which is developed exclusively for the PC on a brand new engine or wait for Fallout 4 which will probably be developed for the next generation of consoles.

Yeah I can see Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls VI on the next gen consoles. Bethesda will probably upgrade thier systems again or have a new system for the next gen.

Agreed. I'm more interested in what they can add in terms of gameplay than a serious upgrade to the graphics. Better animations and less frame rate stuttering everytime more than 5 enemies appeared on the screen would be good for me

I think that TES V is building up to be a massive game. All this speculation, answers to interviews, they're not giving much away, 4 years they've had to develop this game, and I think it's going to be bigger than any game we have ever seen.
