It's quite encouraging that the game is ready to be announced now, isn't it? hopefully when it's announced there will be a flood of information about new cool stuff in the game.

Im still thinking we get a book announcement in september with preorder info, and a release in late november. call me an optimist, but.

I was talking about the 2nd novel... no way in hell does a game get announced and released two months later.

The only thing of note in the Bethesda Podcast Interview with Todd is that he said their now working on content.* So whatever their new game is, it's well into production. Announcement after New Vegas is released is still my thoughts. He also they were excited to play it and it's the game all the devs wanted to play. Whatever it is it'll be awesome. Fingers crossed it's ES V.

Thing of note: podcast sounds like the interview was conducted before quakecon. Slightly dated because of the eurogamer interview, but still relevant.

*EDIT* He also said there is a lot of game to play... encouraging!

Thanks for the info. Any new information is always good, even if it's superseded by later sources. Do you have a link for that interview?

Todd Howard took it further by saying, "We're making the game that we would stand out in the rain at midnight to buy."

I like it :)

the game anouncement will be coupled with the realease of book 2, perhaps even with a code for some extra- awesomeness in the back of the book.

I know, I was surprised too! I was expecting to have to read at least 43 pages worth of speculation on it, even though it was from before Quakecon, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see that that's not the case.

I think many of us have just stopped caring after Quakecon.

At least I have, although I haven't been here much anyway.

A cellphone game doesn't take 2 years to develop, and a cellphone game doesn't use a re-vamped Fallout 3 engine. A cellphone game doesn't need "Taverns you can come back to" as Todd mentioned. And they wouldn't be super-hyped to announce a cellphone game. Skyrim.mobi was copyrighted about 2 years ago, so I'm fairly confident that Skyrim is the next game (as most of us have been for quite some time). All we have to do is wait.

They filed a new trademark for clothing based on Skyrim on my birthday (July 27th), as well as a new videogame trademark on "Skyrim" on June 21th 2010.

I'm just tired of waiting.

Checked the trademarks, they have a trademark called "Oblivion" for "Motion picture film production; entertainment services, namely, providing motion picture theatrical films in the field of fantasy games"

I dunno... maybe I am the only one here who actually enjoys the fun of "guessing"... I get that we all want the next game, yeah I think thats a given since we are on the Elder Scrolls Forum... but isn't it fun to scour the inter-webs and use logic to theorize possibility just for the heck of it? I love the fact that people come up with crazy ideas that are far from possible and that there are others that really take it too seriously, but honestly, I like the game of it, the fun of being wrong without consequence, and at the end of the day, sure, it means nothing at all... but none of the forums really actually do more than perhaps peripherally influence a bit of BGS dev... and that may be only limited to M'aiq... I think the point of these forums is a place for fans to share in the giddy id stemming from appreciation of the great work of BGS. When it comes to speculation, it is a game onto itself... personally, I have made it a wonderful little hobby with spreadsheets and algorithms, and have had a wonderful ride. I have a statistics and probability text book that I read for fun... and who the hell would do that?!? Well not me normally! It is a great way to pass the time before we get what we want. So to those who are so discouraged that we have no info yet, I say that means that the game isn't over yet... it will be wonderful when we get the announcement, but that is like the end to the MQ. It is satisfying, but in a way kinda sad... but then again, I only decided to actually create a profile because I really had something important to share... I "lurked" for years as a fan... it was speculation that made me post, not critique.

A movie based on Oblivion sounds horrible.

It could be really awsome or really horrible, it all depends on who rights the screen play, and who the director is.

I enjoy the "game", I was just feeling pessimistic for a moment because I was in a bad mood.

It is fun. :D And the speculation is great.

Yes that movie was bad, and the books were worse. HOWEVER, I actually thought the the Actor for Eragon was pretty good. According to IMDB he competed with 100,000 other actors to get the role.

Give the movie to Peter Jackson. He'll take care of it.

That is simply to protect the name in case they actually did, at some point want to. They are not making an Oblivion movie.

You know what, considering the thread I'm in, it'd be best if I did this:

THEY ARE NOT MAKING AN OBLIVION MOVIE

I figure I might add a couple new developments to the discussion. Nothing to go crazy about, but very relevant. (I tried to search the forums to make sure they haven't been mentioned, so apologies if they have.)

#1 - PAX Prime recently released their Expo Hall map to the public, and Bethesda has two very large booths to show off their stuff this year. This most likely is for their three recent projects, but if by chance they decided to announce their "new project" in the next week (hey, things can happen), there is ample space in the two grand size booths to grow some hype at such a huge convention.

"By chance, the entrance to that escape route leads...through PAX?"

Good speculation, but it just seems to be the same cut-and-paste statements I've seen for E3 and QuakeCon.

My Sarcasm Detector might be broken, but I don't see how they could possibly make a movie out of Oblivion, when the main character is about as ambiguous as anything gets.

He/She will wear a dark hood, speak in genderless grunts, and you'll never know if they effected things or not since they'll be off in the distance and Martin will be like "Right! I'm right behind you!". In fight scenes they'll be in the background fighting with swords, bows, and magic. They'll also walk stooped low with a cape, so you couldn't tell if they were a Male Bosmer or a Female Altmer.
