Official TES V Speculation Thread # 64

Post » Thu Jan 27, 2011 4:13 pm

Exactly, someone else that knows marketing besides my self.
...
I doubt it’s going to be an online title because they already have Fallout Online which is being promoted by Bethesda and Obsidian (mainly Obsidian).

And someone who doesn't know teh facts? Obsidian has nothing to do with Fallout Online and neither does Bethesta Softworks, or Game Studios. Zenimax owns the rights for the trademark, which Interplay is somewhat problematically licensing at the moment. Fallout Online is being developed by Masthead Studios and Interplay.

They're not going to announce at PAX. PAX will have Brink, Fallout and Hunted.

I think the smartest thing to do would be to announce it in February, as I think Antibody speculated. Then the rush of Christmas Season Cash Cows wouldn't distract from it. Think, there are a lot of very big, exciting titles coming out Christmas, so why would you try to compete with all the noise? Nobody will hear 'We have a great game coming out next Christmas" when people great, well-hyped games like New Vegas and others coming out?

In February, the Christmas hype will be over, the dust will be cleared and nobody will be distracted when Beth says "Hey guys, we have something to show you."

Yeah right. "Hey guys, we have something to show you. But unfortunately Pete says no, not yet."

I am cool with Antibody's February prediction, but as I have said before, really any time after something releases from Softwork's plate makes sense so in my mind, anytime after the October release of FONV gives me something reasonable to assume. Since Pete holds the trigger to the announcement according to Todd, it makes the most sense that it is a marketing resource constraint holding them back. I'd say we might get a couple more tantalizing Todd interviews between now and the announcement so this thread won't be completely boring...

Woah now, I never said February was the absolute only month they could announce it. And I'm pretty sure I never said it couldn't be announced before then. My theory is actually that they will either announce it at the end of the year (November/December) or the beginning of 2011 (January/February). I personally think November or December is the most likely.

...slip of the tongue, I was typing it up pretty late. No need to chew it off. Your right, interplay and Masthead my mistake.

Just a question to everyone on this thread to ponder: What do you think we'll be speculating on after the announcement?

I was the one who said january/february was most likely...I also said the book would be announced beforehand this Christmas season.

Well there will be a whole forum section dedicated to it, so I'm assuming it will be a great number of things. Probably mostly adding ideas/suggestions or speculating on game features that haven't been talked about in the announcement.

Don't forget the mindless assumptions and reading way too deeply into things, can't forget that.

I can't understand why anyone think, or would have ever thought that there would be an announcement at PAX. As unlikely as some other theories have been, there is no reason to assume, or even wishfully think, that TES:V could be announced at a convention where a game has never been announced before.

I hate to say it but it just isn't reasonable to think that they will announce it any time before November (specifically a few weeks after New Vegas is released) and even then possibly not until 2011 comes rolling around, so don't hold your breath. If you want to help the speculation along (and suggesting preposterous announcement dates is NOT helping) then watch for new interviews, or even follow Game Informer, because at some point in time it is very possible that we will see a cover. And like Antibody said a few threads back, with each cover that passes that isn't TES, it is more likely the next one will be. If you don't agree with that, think about it this way: If one cover between now and TES:V's release is going to be TES:V and the release date for the game will be some time before the next generation of consoles..... Well you can do the math with that one, of course it isn't certain that it will be announced in GI but Bethesda has a long history of revealing games via GI covers.

We'll be pulling apart every word, every letter, the grammer, the spelling, and everything in between. We'll be looking at all the details of any pics released and pulling them apart pixel by pixel.

Whats most important to me is the lighting. The models and textures and animation in Oblivion were fine with me but the lighting was crap. With no shadows. So I'll be comenting on that on any pics I see.

You know things are getting too quiet when people start speculating about speculating.

...forsooth. ;)

This is just about the only thread I check out right now. I remember while playing Morrowind, I would constantly be going onto threads on these forums because Morrowind never got old (with mods), and waiting for the next game. My interest is waning. Oblivion was good, but it doesn't have sticking power, even with mods. Here's to the possibility of a game announcement by the end of the year, and all the excitement that will come with it. Don't blow it, Bethesda. We need in-depth, not just superficial, content.

People will obviously be picking apart every screenshot and trailer and everything Bethesda says, but can you really blame them? I mean, it's been 4 1/2 years since Oblivion, and people are starving for some new TES news. Give them a screenshot and they aren't simply going to look at it and go "Oooh pretty" and be content, no they're going to inspect it and over-anolyze it until they feel that they've done all that they can.

They just had that Eurogamer interview which revealed as much as they can about the game as they could with out actually announcing it. I'm guessing the point of that interview was set up to hold us over until they can finally announce. There is not much else they can say with out telling us what game it is.

/agree

I've stopped worrying (and therefore speculating) since reading Todd's recent interviews. It sounds like things are on track and will be revealed before too long. I've no more need to reassure myself that there's cause for hope. :)

That's true.

If there was only one leaked screenshot, every effin' fan would go crazy and search every pixel of it for any possible information. I'm one of those guys.

I for one will be following the Fan Interview thread. That was really the best part of the wait last time.

same here. i just read that latest interview with howard, where he mentioned if pete came over and told him to reveal the game in production he's (howard) ready to. it makes me giddy to think they've a got a mostly playable elder scrolls V sitting on their hard drives.
