An interesting article that really is nothing more than just pure speculation, similar to what's going on here. I thought maybe people might want to see this.

Their contact can't be right because sony wouldn't be allowed to say stuff like that and the game is that far in development yet.

IGN continues to amaze me with their idiocy. They aren't making an Oblivion movie, they're just protecting the name, like they did with Fallout 3. Dammit IGN, way to go making viewers of your website who don't know the difference between filing for a trademark and actually making a movie think that Bethesda is actually making one. I suspect we'll have topics made over and over again about this for months to come, if the April Fools prank by Planet Elder Scrolls, which still causes the occasional "OMG TES V is be called Alinor!" topic to pop up to this day, is anything to go by.

They can't even tell if Paper Mario 3DS is a remake or not.

I agree, it's probably just them protecting the name. I was just throwing out possibilities, I think a webseries would be nice, get Sandeep from the Legend of Neil to produce and direct ;).

I'm starting to question whether or not TES:V will actually be in Skyrim.
I mean, we have no proof other than a trademark. Well, Beth just filed for an Oblivion film production trademark, and they aren't making a movie.
So, why does that mean TES:V will be in Skyrim?

Well, they haven't copyrighted all of the other provinces, have they? Just Skyrim. Skyrim was special and singled out for a certain reason. It was also put under the trademark of a game and clothing and not a movie.

Don't forget that they can't just be protecting their assets from Skyrim Wireless either because there is also a company called High Rock Ginger Ale Co. that has a trademark on High Rock, yet Bethesda/Zenimax has no High Rock trademark.

Ah, I didn't know about that one. Even more information. :D

Thank you.

It will be funny if it actually is called Alinor.

Is this a creditable and respectable news blog? I haven't heard of it before, so I have no idea.
Even if what they're reporting is made up or false information, the media attention is putting a lot more pressure on Bethesda to come out and say what it is.
When the mainstream starts to get hyped up on rumors like this, they're going to have to say something about it.
I'm not saying to go out and put up fake articles.

Side note:
In the recent interviews with Todd Howard, he mentioned how they design the world and what makes it a compelling environment first. Having a Skyrim trademark in 2006 seems to make sense knowing this.

They spend the first part telling us that it is a rumor... which means it is a rumor, so I believe it is a rumor. I heard someone once say that BGS isn't working on TESV and in fact the next game is a brand-spankin' new IP. It's a rumor too...

I believe it is TESV though! So glad to know that there are rumors outside of this forum that also align with my belief system.

Funnily, in the IGN(orant) thing about the movie trademark, not only do they confuse copy protection precautions with making an actual movie, they say bethesda is developing an MMO.

It'd be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

Wow, that's extremely behind the times if they still think the Halo movie is going to be done. It was pretty much dead on arrival. Did you know that the reason District 9 was even MADE was because Blomkamp was told to go make another movie (because Halo just wasn't working out)?

Back on topic - Whats the best guess at the moment? December GI cover with a November announcement via Beth website? I have a strange hunch it's not going to be til early next year. Let New Vegas rake in the christmas sales, then drop the bomb jan/ feb. Just my speculation.

One more thing, Todd Howard said in the Bethesda podcast that in they began working on game content start of 2010, can anyone make a rough estimate how long it takes to complete the putting all content in based on Oblivion/ Fallout 3's production?

District 9 was a great movie. It wasn't great because of the special effects either, it was great because of the moral of the story. It was about racism.
Anyway, on topic,
I think it's great that the media, along with us, is putting pressure on Bethesda to announce it. Bethesda is pretty iron clad though. I don't know if it'll pressure them or not.

A little under one and a half years makes sense.

Think of it like this: They said they began work on their newest version of their customized Gamebyro engine in 2008. That's a little under 2 years or so to complete that (and apparently their game mechanics as well).

So, the combined totals should be around 3.5 years, and adding in the finalization and going gold to printing of the game, that makes around 4 years, as most of their games are.

Sound right?

Just remember, they said the time between the announcement and the release will be “the shortest it’s been for us”. I don't remember whether it was Todd or Pete that said it. Of course, I'm also not sure how to quantify 'shortest'.

Todd said it was the shortest announce-release cycle ever. As far as quantifying that... count the days for all other games. It has to be at least one day shorter than every other game, but I'd bet TH is hedging his bets, and it's at least 2 months shorter. Likewise, the minimum is 3 months, because there's just no time to announce, have deals in place, promote, pre-order, ship to retailers, and release otherwise.

I think we will almost definitely get an announcement before the end of the year, and if not, then no later than February.

If they started real development when Fallout 3 was released in 2008, they'll have been working on it for about 2 years in October 2010. If they release it in October 2011 (please oh please), they'll have been working on it for 3 years. Now, technically, that is a shorter development time than Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3, but you have to remember that their current team of 90+ people is 3 times the number of people worked on Morrowind and close to 2 times the number that worked on Oblivion and Fallout 3.

It was great because... well it was just freaking great. I never understood how there are people who didn't like it. But to each their own I guess.

Pete Hines: "I don't think so. They're building up their teams, and they already have four amazing brands they're working on. So they already have enough titles to work on that they own. On the flip side, Todd [Howard] and his team have their hands full with The Elder Scrolls and Fallout."
