Official TES V Speculation Thread # 65

Post » Thu Feb 10, 2011 3:06 am

About three weeks ago I wrote an email to Greg Keyes, author of the Infernal City, asking him what he was currently working on. I found his email through the University of Georgia's faculty info, (because he is the coach of the fencing team there). Anyways, he actually responded to me today.

Hi, Jeremy,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm currently finishing up the sequel to the Infernal City, and I have proposed two new trilogies, one of which is a companions series to the Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone, set about fifteen years after the events of those books.

Thanks for writing. It's easier to reach me at gkeyes40@comcast.net or on Facebook, if you want to reach me again. I don't check this mail as often.

So at least now we have some idea of what is going on with the book.

A return to the world of Crotheny as well as the Infernal City sequel? You just made my day.

I have just been trying to think of anything I could possibly do to shed some light on when we're getting an announcement. I thought I had done it last year when I obtained a reviewers copy of The Infernal City but nothing ever came of that.

That's some very nice new info. It shouldn't be too long before he sends it off for editing and publishing.
A game announcement could be a good way to market the new book as well. Could this be the "obstacle" holding Bethesda back?

If you can call it an obstacle, that makes sense. I did figure they want the books out and read before they announce. That way the very sight of the world doesn't spoil whatever effects Umbriel has in the long-term.

That's some of the more exciting news. Maybe an announcement this November, through the sequel... I can't imagine the book not alluding to Tamriel's future.

At the minimum, it should show us the state of the empire, and the survival of the Mede dynasty or not, the An-Xileel and Thalmor, the Dunmer. The stage will be set and set well.

How can we confirm the validity of this information..?
I can write you up a pretty decent fake email from Pete Hines saying he's really a black woman, but that doesn't make it true.

I can email the other address and ask about it? After all, unless you're a conspiracy theorist two independent parties getting similar information tends to help make speculation more believable.

That's a level of ridiculous his email doesn't touch. Nice try.

Ohhhh ok. So, now, among this threads many other "lolmoments", we are taking things that random people type with no information to back it up or evidence, and speculating on that.
I see.
If you all want to speculate on things, that's great, but do it intelligently.

I'm not lying, I will give you any proof you want. If I was going to lie to get the attention of the ES Speculation forum, I would write up a fake message from Todd with some fake screens as well. Give me a break.

Why don't we just get a screenshot of the email, then? If it will end all of this ridiculous bickering between members.

Speculation: It'll look somewhat better than Fable 3, and not as good as http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-03-bethesda-brings-rage-fallout-hunted-and-brink-to-eurogamer-expo-article

I'll post a screen of the entire conversation to image shack. Give me a minute.

Yep, that's all I'm asking for before we have 10 threads of discussion dedication to it. I'm not calling him a liar, I'm asking for some proof.

Well I'm convinced. Although that is more speculation on the novel than the games themselves, it does make me feel good.

Now that's what I call proof. :goodjob: Thanks for showing the screenshot. Like I said, I never called you a liar, I merely asked for proof, and you gave it.
Good news indeed.
I'll throw this in for discussion;
Maybe what Todd is waiting to showcase TES:V is this novel being released? Since it will allegedly bridge the gaps between games, this could be just the thing he's waiting on.

I don't understand why he would have to wait to release the book before he announces the game. I could see him waiting on releasing the book before the game but i don't understand why it matters for an announcement.

Well, because depending on what happens the world of Tamriel may be a very different place. The things even an announcement may spoil is what happened to Umbriel, the Mede dynasty, the state of the Empire, perhaps even some survivors or deaths of characters. Although, who knows?

If any of this is related, what I see is a countdown on the site leading to a press release of the second book and the game announcement.
"Now that you know about the game, buy this book for some hints about what to expect." That sort of deal.

Im counting on a huge let down, like Spore was.

Spore was an abomination. It was horrible. It was a 3+ game in disguise.

Wow I'm actually starting to get excited again. That emails hyped me up, I didn't think the sequel would be finished so soon, but I bet that the events at the end of it are gonna be linked to the game!

The game will be announced first, I think.

Then Mr. Hines and the marketing team adds some sort of promotional TES V content with the release of the book, increasing sales dramatically in comparison to the infernal City.

If you look at the games so far, New Vegas, Brink, Hunted, all of them have exclusive pre-order content, its inevitable that TES V will have some sort...regardless of whos developing them.

The book comes out, people buy it, hold onto their content, and the game is released shortly after, making it the shortest time in between announcement and release Bethesda has ever seen.
