We don't know anything yet. Todd Howard said that he's ready to show it so it's likely it will be announced soon. I personally think before the end of the year, but nobody knows for sure.

According to Todd, they're pretty much ready to show it, AND its got enough content going on already to knock our socks off.

I think we'll be seeing (and I mean actually seeing) TES V very soon (as in, within the year).

Anyway, I've been coming back to this thread every day for a couple weeks now just to see some of the new speculation going on - and I thought It was time I come in to post and say...

OH. EM. GEE.

I haven't been this excited since I saw the first screen shots of Oblivion. One of my earliest memories was looking at these screenshot in computer class back when I was at school. My friends were not RPG fans but I was a big one - and my jaw just dropped at the detail of the creatures. These days they are not so great. But I don't think I'm alone when I say it was amazing back then.

It won't be. They don't make MMOs. They've made that very clear.

So? It wouldn't affect the development of TES V at all.

What? Of course it will. Who will the designers call to bring them doughnuts? Not Zenimax, if they're busy on a MMO. They'll have to get them their selves, and waste precious seconds that could've been put into TES V.

Zenimax Online has an entirely separate development team than Bethesda Game Studios...

Zenimax Online isn't working on TES V, they're perhaps working on an MMO TES title, but it isn't related to TES V.

But BGS wouldn't be the ones making the TES MMO, so a TES MMO wouldn't affect TES V's development at all.

I speculate, that they'll actually scout real locations for this one! Because it was obvious that none of the team had ever really been in a Redwood forest when the made Oblivion :shakehead:
The average Redwood is about four times larger than the ones they had in the game (12+ stories high, rather than like 3)

Oh that's means that TESV and and the MMORPG of Elder Scrolls are diferent proyects  well that's if that is a good new. Now I feel so much more trust in that the Next TES will be Unique :obliviongate:

The size of the trees and the sparseness of the forests in Oblivion was probably due to technical limitations

Indeed it was.

If anyone is expecting a 1:1 representation to TES series, they should be looking years and years into the future.

edit: I mean Vvardenfell was the closest in the series, but that's because it wasn't a whole province.

I just had a thought about that Skyrim trademark business.

It would make sense to me if Bethesda would be doing multiple provinces in the north. After all, Cyrodill is about the size of Skyrim and High Rock combined - or they'll include Atmora in there. As they didn't have a title yet when they started out on the project, they had to have an internal project name, so they just pulled out the name of one of the most well-known provinces: The oft-mentioned homeland of the Nords, Skyrim.

So could it be that Skyrim was merely a project title, and that they now have a real title for the next Elder Scrolls making the Skyrim trademark obsolete?

Well now that they are far enough along to feel confident that they can show something, I believe that they would have a title, and as recent renewals of the Skyrim trademark would have us believe, the name is not obsolete. That doesn't mean that we can be 100% certain that the title will be Skyrim, because anything is possible... but the methodology/timeframes/historical actions all point to this actually being used.

Wait what? I thought Skyrim had expired and they didn't bother to renew it...

EDIT: k, apparently it's just the manual trademark that expired, but not the software trademarks.
