Official TES V Speculation Thread # 65

Post » Thu Feb 10, 2011 3:46 am

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1112872-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-177/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. Any claims to having insider information will be removed. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

To bring up all the trademarks held by Zenimax, do the following starting from tess2.uspto.gov:

  • Click on 'Structured Form Search (Boolean)'
  • In the first field enter "Zenimax Media" (including the quotation marks!)
  • Change the Boolean operator to AND
  • In the second field enter 'Live' (quotation marks not needed here)

Well, no new "No Word Mark"s...

Although there seemed to be a new mark for Oblivion for films, shows, etc.

I can just imagine the Champion of Cyrodiil now. "Excuuuuuuse me, prince!"

Well... this won't get you all the marks you are looking for and might not get you the "no words" marks... I end up doing a couple of different ones to try and catch them all. One of the better ones is just using the advanced search and putting in (Bethesda)[ON] and (Zenimax)[ON]. You can see with the (Bethesda)[ON] there is a more recent fallout boy "no word" mark that doesn't come up with the search you listed... sneaky government websites like to hide things!!

Did anyone notice that the game manual trademark is dead, and does it even matter if its dead?

They likely just haven't gotten around to filing for a new one yet. After all, that's what they've been doing with their other expiring marks.

...which is why I worded it as "held by Zenimax". I assumed people could then tailor the search strings to drill deeper. The varied results really just depends on the owner name used for the trademark. In your case, Bethesda Softworks was used.

Hehe, I knew that much but thought I'd clarify it for those who it might not have spent as much time as we in there.

That's probably good...I assume too readily that people actually read through the threads before they post. :)

Ya know. It could all be just a twisted joke to steer us away from guessing what TESV is realy called. I could see Todd Arranging this. So we would have no idea what TESV will be about.

It's got this far now so i would assume they are just holding out for New Vegas to come out and go away ;) then probably before christmas unleash the fury. I didn't agree with the theory about not announcing it because of NV but itseems to be going that way. I just hope this whole 4 1/2 year thing between games doesn't happen again, give me a spin off by a different company over nothing at all anyday.

I'm surprised how quiet the speculation thread is considering the recent Eurogamer interview and the new Bethesda podcast. Both seem to suggest that TES V is close to being announced, within a few months even, and the game will be released in maybe 10-15 months if we're lucky. Obviously they never mention it by name because that WOULD be an announcement, but they refer to it as "what everyone is asking about" and mention how it's been in production for several years.

I'm trying to not get excited, not because we still have a lot of time, but because I'm really curious about design decisions from Oblivion to TES V, and will need more than an announcement and maybe a screen or two to judge it.

That said, I was curious if anyone has any theories on where or when it might be announced. If it were showcased at E3 next year, are there earlier cons that it might be talked about? Will a general announcement precede a Game Informer article?

"Obviously they never mention it by name because that WOULD be an announcement, but they refer to it as "what everyone is asking about" and mention how it's been in production for several years."

Todd pretty much came out and said it. Sure, maybe it's RAGE, or BRINK, or whatever lame side project he is involved with, but I don't hear anyone talking about those.

And the past 64 threads have been "OMG it's going to be announced at e3 '09...'10...Quakecon...PAX...It's going to be announced before the Skyrim trademark expires (which was July?)

Todd is not involved with Rage or Brink.

The speculation has cooled because we are pretty certain we are about to get an announcement between now and at the latest maybe March 2011. Yeah, it is still speculation, but all out magic 8 balls say "All signs point to Yes".

How are you surprised? We already talked about Todd's recent interviews to death. There isn't anything to talk about anymore. Like Sylt said, we know from what Todd said that it will be announced relatively soon, so now all we have to do is wait. There isn't anything to be said that hasn't already been said.

Very last sentence of this threads OP:

Yes, we do know it's not Rage or Brink.

Tried that on my road trip but they were closed. I forgot that office jobs tend to be monday-friday deals. That was unfortunate, but realistically I wouldn't get any useable information. If anything, I'd either be thrown out and booted from the forums or someone would rephrase "we're working on something awesome but we aren't talking" again.

I have heard many people on this thread talk about how they messaged or "PM"ed Pete Hines. I am sure there were many good questions asked by the forumers who messaged him but I must ask: were the questions you asked ever properly answered with a SOLID answer like "yes" or "no".

I have a feeling that we have been asking the wrong questions. What if someone asked Pete what the obstacle in the way of the announcement for BGS's secret project is?

It might have been asked already. I think it would be a good idea. That question seems like one Pete would be allowed to answer as it does not fully effect the exact reveal date.

It sounded to me from the interviews that there wasn't so much an "obstacle" so much as they do have a plan. That plan is subject to change, as Todd said, but they do know what they're doing.

About three weeks ago I wrote an email to Greg Keyes, author of the Infernal City, asking him what he was currently working on. I found his email through the University of Georgia's faculty info, (because he is the coach of the fencing team there). Anyways, he actually responded to me today.

Hi, Jeremy,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm currently finishing up the sequel to the Infernal City, and I have proposed two new trilogies, one of which is a companions series to the Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone, set about fifteen years after the events of those books.

Thanks for writing. It's easier to reach me at gkeyes40@comcast.net or on Facebook, if you want to reach me again. I don't check this mail as often.

--Greg

So at least now we have some idea of what is going on with the book.
