Official TES V Speculation Thread #66

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:17 am

Thanks, after you said that I went back and found the fairly extensive discussion two threads ago. I was just trying to get the speculation ball rolling around here again anyhow... Oh well.

Heh, it was exciting information in there. Todd gave more specifics.

You know, from the OP, I don't really understand what there is to be speculating on. I mean it sounds like we're supposed to just post whatever date we think TES V will be announced or released for whatever reason. I'm almost surprised this hasn't devolved into a giant betting game. Anyways, I think it'll be announced before the end of the year.

I actually lost a bet on a speculation date, so it actually did devolve, but that was long ago... we have had actual information since then.

Some days (or even weeks) there just isn't anything to speculate on. This topic exists so if something does come up, like an interview or new trademark information, it can all be posted in the same place.
So when there isn't anything new to talk about, it's probably best for everyone to keep posts to a minimum and be patient while we wait for the next piece of information.

I've been coming to these speculation threads for years looking for information, and it's frustrating when everyone gets off topic or arguments break out, and the mods have to come in and lock it for a while.

Anyway, I just saw the post about the Nehrim mod for Oblivion on the blog. It has some amazing things, so I hope the developers play it and take a few notes.
I've noticed a few people playing modded Oblivions in their "What we're playing" segments over time, so it's not too far fetched an idea!

Also the new jobs site certainly suggests they are planning on increasing their team sizes, and maybe even Bethesda Game Studios.

That Nehrim mod seems a bit surreal. Why would anyone go through all that effort? I noticed in their description they kept on having indirect jabs at Oblivion. It's becoming so cliche now its laughable.

On topic: Suprise announcement at TGS anyone? ..... anyone?
ah well, i don't think so either.

TGS seems to be the most UNLIKELY place to make an announcement unless they wanted to svck up to Sony in order to kick Microsoft in the balls. I wouldn't say it's impossible, Sony has been racking in 3rd and first party publishers like crazy these days. TGS just seems to far fetched because Bethesdas primary market is the US. They also like to show a lot and give people the chance to play demo's.

I don't need to make the bet, I agree with you. TGS is Tokyo Game Show, it's like E3 for Japan.

Why would they announce it there though?

Personally, Im hoping they create a TES convention just for the announcement.

Me too, but how would they set up the convention and advertise it without giving it away? Unless the just advertise it as, BGS next game convention lol.

This kinda reminds me of Halo 3, when everybody on the Bungie forums already knew what this mystery "next game" was. Bungie, during announcement, declared it the best kept secret ever, something that nobody saw coming. Ever.

Really, are we waiting for an announcement? I think we're waiting for a title with a screenshot or two to pop up.

Where's Waldo comeback. Just you wait. It's an open world RPG and you are tasked with finding the one man in the world who can save us from ultimate destruction. Waldo.

@HD
So you're saying that you don't think TES:V will be announced until after 2011? Or that the interview after the announcement will take place after 2011?

I don't believe Bethesda will announce their upcoming game until 2011.

While con season is winding down there are still several left (including BlizzCon) and plenty of buzz - if Bethesda announced now I'm sure it would get tons of coverage but it would still be competing for attention. The con buzz will turn in to holiday buzz and once that's over it won't be 2010 any more. :)

Pete mentioned on Facebook that he wasn't planning on going to TGS so I think that's unlikely :)

I was making a joke saying bethesda are really unoriginal like in the comment I said to the west to hammerfell(slightly changing old phrases) and seeya neen(I forget what I write.)as places in hammerfell (copying old names)basically I was saying bethesda will take everything from the previous games setting, stories, lore, creatures and even ingame names change them slightly and stuff it into tes v p.s and the bad grammar in that post was done on purpose.

Well, common sense tells us that when making a sequel, people usually try to stick to the lore/history of the previews games and not make completely new stories that wouldn't make any sense when compared to its predecessors (Not sure if I spelt that correctly xD).

Now's our chance! We obviously won't get a confirmation, but we can get some other clues if we ask the right questions.
Anyone got any ideas? There is another thread for the questions, but I was wondering if anyone could come up with anything.

Read the first post of the thread they linked. It says no questions about unannounced projects.

They did guarantee that no answers about their top-secret projects would be released, but we may be able to get some info on whether or not the release/announcement schedules for game releases is regulated by Bethesda Softworks and Pete Hines and if it is a matter of marketing strategy or resources that are the largest driving factors. By the way, I posted this question... so maybe if others ask it too it will seem all popular and get picked to be asked, hmmmm.....

I signed in and saw that the Podcast Questions thread had a bunch of new posts, and once I saw regulars from this thread I thought "Oh lord someone posted a link in the Speculation thread and asked everyone to ask about TES V." Luckily, most of you didn't...

but we can get some other clues if we ask the right questions.

No. We wont be getting any clues-what-so-ever. Bethesda isn't stupid, and wont fall for "the right questions." Especially considering this is a podcast that they themselves make, and they wont put anything in they think would be taken by us as a clue.

Clues no, but questions about how Bethesda operates possibly, which could allow for more grounded speculation than wildly shooting in the dark.

Bethesda recently gave many hints regarding TES V. They stated that one of their secret projects is in its final stages, that they have most of the game to show off but are just waiting for the go ahead. Tod Howard also stated that from announcement to release will be the shortest of any Bethesda game every released. Oblivion was announced in 2004 and released in 2006.

Now, Ive been playing a large variation of MMOs for nearly a decade now and there is generally a certain trend with announcement and release. When it comes to releasing MMO's the developers have a few things to consider, community and Beta. Community make MMO's, WOW's newest expansion has been in beta for 3+ months and has been announced for more then a year. The up and coming KOTOR MMO has been announced for I think two years now and has still to have a beta, which will no redoubtably be out for months.

New MMO's need lots of press, they need to let everyone around the world that this game is coming out. I don't see how TESV will be an MMO when they plan to release it very soon after announcement and are close to completion.

That said. They have two games under raps that have yet to be announced. One could quite possibly be an elder-scrolls MMO but I do not foresee it coming out any time soon. New title MMO's generally take more then 2 years to create.

I would read Octobers edition of EGM's magazine, link @ bottom:

"Finally, Fallout and Elder Scrolls fans will love this month’s EGM Interview with Bethesda’s Todd Howard. Get to know the creator of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Fallout 3, the inner processes of Bethesda, and some hints about the future!"

If I was to guess I would say we will see an announcement before the new year and possibly a release early - min 2011.
