Official TES V Speculation Thread #66

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:39 am

Bethesda recently gave many hints regarding TES V. They stated that one of their secret projects is in its final stages, that they have most of the game to show off but are just waiting for the go ahead. Tod Howard also stated that from announcement to release will be the shortest of any Bethesda game every released. Oblivion was announced in 2004 and released in 2006.

Now, Ive been playing a large variation of MMOs for nearly a decade now and there is generally a certain trend with announcement and release. When it comes to releasing MMO's the developers have a few things to consider, community and Beta. Community make MMO's, WOW's newest expansion has been in beta for 3+ months and has been announced for more then a year. The up and coming KOTOR MMO has been announced for I think two years now and has still to have a beta, which will no redoubtably be out for months.

New MMO's need lots of press, they need to let everyone around the world that this game is coming out. I don't see how TESV will be an MMO when they plan to release it very soon after announcement and are close to completion.

That said. They have two games under raps that have yet to be announced. One could quite possibly be an elder-scrolls MMO but I do not foresee it coming out any time soon. New title MMO's generally take more then 2 years to create.

I would read Octobers edition of EGM's magazine, link @ bottom:

"Finally, Fallout and Elder Scrolls fans will love this month’s EGM Interview with Bethesda’s Todd Howard. Get to know the creator of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Fallout 3, the inner processes of Bethesda, and some hints about the future!"

If I was to guess I would say we will see an announcement before the new year and possibly a release early - min 2011.

Nope. Bethesda Game Studios said that they do not make MMOs. You can rest assured that not only will TES V not be an MMO, but there will never be an MMO made by them. The second project they are working on is likely Fallout 4.

However, Zenimax Online does make MMOs, and chances are extremely good that it will be a TES MMO. It wont be TES V, but it will be a TES MMO. It just wont have been made by Bethesda Game Studios.

My post was originally a thread. I think a mod moved it in here or something. It was titled why TesV will not be an MMO.

Oh. Well at any rate, you don't have to go through all that trouble of thinking up reasons why it can't be an MMO, as it http://bethblog.com/index.php/2009/08/17/clarifying-about-next-elder-scrolls-game-mmo-etc/.

Of course, nothing will be announced in the podcast, at least not this time. I think that's wise, actually. Have it all basically just be in good fun, let people like me ask questions about how writing video games works (a burning question with few answers, I feel).

Of course, they didn't say new questions wouldn't be raised, but certainly they won't let anything slip by accident. We will only receive information on purpose, when they see fit and no sooner.

Do you guys think TES:V will look as amazing as Halo: Reach?

Todd: "...Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that... You almost feel like you have a new console when you see the game."

In my opinion Halo Reach does not look like a game from a new console. The trailers are incredibly well done but are unfortunately not what the game actually looks like. (trailers not gameplay videos)
A next gen looking game for me is Crysis and especially Crysis 2.

Jokes are fun.

When the jokes are actually jokes sure they are fun.

I signed in and saw that the Podcast Questions thread had a bunch of new posts, and once I saw regulars from this thread I thought "Oh lord someone posted a link in the Speculation thread and asked everyone to ask about TES V." Luckily, most of you didn't...

No. We wont be getting any clues-what-so-ever. Bethesda isn't stupid, and wont fall for "the right questions." Especially considering this is a podcast that they themselves make, and they wont put anything in they think would be taken by us as a clue.

maybe it would go like this:

me: HI
Beth: yo
me: Well I heard that they are having a cool cooking contest next week, is the beth. team gonna join? and if yes would they make Mexican food, Chinese, or elder scroll 5 ??

:P

Hmm, well, if the soonest he thinks it will come out is early next year, that sort of makes me even more confident that they aren't going to release the book before they announce TES V. Todd made it seem like the announcement for TES V is coming relatively soon, while Keyes makes it sounds like the book is far from being announced or released. Plus the fact that he's only just finished the second draft says a lot.

Also, I know I run the risk of falling for Muphry's Law here, but "publicatin?" Really Greg? I guess he doesn't consider it very important to proofread short emails...

Jokes are fun.

Jokes? What's funny about the question? Have you even played Halo: Reach? Even watched an HD video on youtube of gameplay? Nope? Didn't think so.
Halo: Reach looks pretty damn amazing, 100x better than Fallout 3. I'd say the only game I've seen that looks better than Reach is Crysis.
But yeah, I guess that's funny.

Lots of games look good on the 360. We don't need to argue over which has the bestest graphix, because there are dozens of games on it that look worlds better than both Oblivion and Fallout 3. Bethesda has a lot of room to improve with their next title and judging by Todd's comments I don't think we'll be disappointed.

There are many variations on "looking great." I think Halo has always nailed ITS look well. Totally realistic looking? Naw, that's Far Cry or Crysis territory. Cartoony paintbrush style? Wind Waker or Okami.

Lots of games look good in a lot of different ways.

That being said, I'd rather have TES V have its own style than attempt to look as realistic as possible. Of course, if it can look realistic and still have style, well hot damn.

One question I'd like to bat at the next podcast is "Has your newly tuned engine surprised you with its power? Are there any notable features (that you might be able to tell us about) it has that previous engines of yours could not achieve, such as dynamic lighting?"

So why don't you ask that in the questions thread? :whisper:

Obviously, asking questions directly like "Are you making TES V!?" won't get anybody anywhere. Instead, I opt to ask questions that could clue us in to the future of the series (even if, technically, if could be about the future of Fallout or a new IP depending on what they're actually making with this new fangled engine, but you understand my point). Questions related to opinions on game design ("Is an RPG REALLY about a knight riding around on a horse killing things?" :P ) and about technology will get us much, much further in revealing things about TES V (assuming they're actually making it).

I've played it, and even though it's agreeable that it is better than Fallout 3 it is by no means amazing, in fact I can barely see the difference between it and Halo 3 and at times I see no difference graphically.

You sure you played Halo: Reach? because Reach is almost completely different than Halo 3 as far as looks go. It looks like a completely different game, because it is. It's a huge up in the graphics.

I am betting October 2010 Announcement. October is always a big month for Bethesda. (Fallouts, Oblivion announcement which was on my b-day :D, and others)

Oblivion was announced in September, and the countdown started in August. (It was also pretty clear from the countdown what it was for :))

Hey I've been away from this thread since the whole dragon age 2 gi cover debacle. Are there any new tidbits of hopefulness or revelations pointing towards an announcement or are we still stuck in a never ending darkness? Is it looking like nothing will be announced until at least next year now?

There have been a couple interviews with Todd Howard lately and he said he's ready to show his game. He also talked more extensively about how the technology in the game is a lot better.

Any clues on what this game is? Any signs pointing to tesv or is it just as likely its something different? Is it going to be shown before e3 2011?

Do you think Bethesda took the advice here on the forum to heart or is trying to appeal to the masses? I think we are a huge minority of the profit that Bethesda gets off of the Elder Scrolls and I wonder if they would sacrifice what we love about the game to make the game more accessible to the masses (somewhat done in Oblivion). I'm going to speculate here and say they do take advice from the community, I have some faith that the complaints on these forums go through to them. This would be a good question for an interviewer to ask Todd.

http://probablefailure.com/2010/09/15/elder-scrolls-v-speculation/ I'm not sure if any of it has been repeated before, but still with sharing.

Hmm, yeah I saw that off of N4G, at this point I'm convinced that all rumors are timed leaks. True, he states it's a speculation though that date makes perfect sense for an announcement. What an awesome Holiday Present that would be, only two days after Christmas in the States.
