Official TES V Speculation Thread #67

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:06 am

I certainly hope everyone's predictions are correct about it being announced next winter. For me, the concept of TESV is almost mythical in nature. It's like a matter of faith. I don't see it, but I believe that it's real.

I honestly don't know how I'll respond to a TESV announcement, because every day, I casually check the BethBlog;I don't even expect to see anything interesting, it's just part of my daily schedule to check the blog before I start working. When I do see an announcement, it might take me a day or two to actually notice/realize it, after which I will cry tears of joy.

I do hope that the servers don't overload with the huge influx of members on the announcement day that say things like "Who's Martin Septim?" or "This will just be Fallout with swords."

I just hope that Bethesda doesn't rush their current project (yes, I know it feels like they've been taking their sweet time, but they really haven't). I don't want another heartbreaking moment like when BioWare delayed Dragon Age from April all the way to November.

Wait, who's suggesting that TES:V would be announced next winter? As in the winter of 2011? Why not this winter?

I haven't seen anybody talking about it being announced next winter. ;)

This October makes the development time 2 years. If they release it in October next year it'll have been in development for 3 years. That's technically shorter than the development time of Morrowind but remember, they have 90 people working on it now, which is 3x the size of the Morrowind development team and 1.5x the size of the Oblivion development team. I'm sure they've put all that extra manpower to good use.

Wow, did I really confuse everybody by saying "next" instead of "this"? You people make me hate the English language sometimes.

Well, I figured that's what you meant, but "next winter" and "this winter" are very different times. It's not the English language's fault.

"This winter" means the winter this year, "next winter" means next winter..? It's a pretty simple concept. Unless English isn't your first language, then I guess I can kind of understand.
But I digress.

I suppose the longer we wait for an announcement the less time between the announcement and release

Which makes sense. Oblivion was in production for four years with 60 people. They have 90 on this game so it'd make sense for them to shave some time off this release.

Even though they've got more people working on it this time around, will this make up for a much shorter production time? We're hoping for an absolutely epic game, right -- a game better than all previous ones? If they 'shave down' on the production time this might hurt the quality of the game, am I right?
Of course, they've got most of the technology and such (engine) ready from Oblivion and Fallout... but I don't know...

Just a quick question.

If the new game they have been working on is TESV, which I am 99.9% sure it is, What is the percentage of completion they could be at by now? 50%?60%70%???

I found it extremely interesting that T Howard said that if Pete Hines came in and told them to show it, they could, and are excited because they have ALOT of stuff to show. For those who have no idea....Go to page 1 of this thread and look at links for interviews.

If this thing is close to being done, then they may set it up for an announcement before Holiday Season of this year, and a release Q3/Q4 of 2011. What do you guys think...................? I lean with 75% completion of the game itself, with 25% of tweeking left to complete the game. This is how to SPECULATE since we don't have much else to talk about:P

I would guess that by now the engine is finished and they are in the final stages of engine testing. There is probably a team working on meshes and textures as well as another team working on writing the different stories that they planned. CS work is *I think* the shortest part of the work, its the building up of resources like meshes, textures, character stories etc. that take up the majority of time, second only to engine design and testing.

We'll they're at least far enough for Todd to say he's ready to show it.

It's pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now.
You know, if Pete Hines came in and said, "I want you to show it," I'd be like, "Okay, I'm ready to show it." But we've just decided for now not to yet.

Don't act like it's that easy. Winter would encompass the months of Dec. 2010-Mar. 2011. So winter 2011 could be Feb. 2011. It is confusing for some. Now, back to our previously scheduled discussion and hopefully without implying someone is unable to get some concept that you think simple. This winter has not arrived yet despite it being below freezing outside. :)

Does that mean "we,ve" as in we have being that Todd and his crew are not ready, or as in Pete Hines and Zenimax as a parent company are not ready? HMMMM. You can try to disect every word, but I have a funny feeling that they are way ahead of the curve and Zenimax is not ready to try and drop the ESV bomb until Pete Hines and his crew can catch up....... BGS could be really far along and are just waiting for the Green Light! :o

Sample:
Todd and Pete's boss: We need something to show by E3 2010
Todd Howard: We are ready to show now if you want
Todd and Pete's boss: OK Let's do it
Pete Hines: We can not take that on at this moment, but Q4 of this year will work due to heavey workload with publishing. We have a lot on our plate ATM.
Todd and Pete's boss: Ok Pete when can we show it, October?
Pete Hines: After we finish up with Marketing FONV, why don't we let Howard talk about what him and his guys at BGS are doing right now?
Todd Howard: I can answer some questions in an interview if you would like.......
Forum: We all get answers as to next gen vs now....the facts in the interview help slow down speculation and patiently await an announcement
Gstaff: Thanks*sigh
Pete Hines: Thanks*sigh
Todd Howard: NP :D
Todd and Pete's boss: Back to work(which is what I should be doing)

Nov or DEC GI is my best guess for announcement, after some big countdown thing on their website, and we will be playing the game next year. Probably some time in Q4.

Here is a thought.

What about a two week countdown leading up to a . . . (wait for it)

a Thanksgiving announcement,

coinciding with a black Friday/cyber-Monday sale of all current Bethesda titles. Everywhere you can see exclusive preview content and screen shots and interviews about the game can have giant banners announcing the sale and where you can take advantage of it. It can be called the Thank the Nine for TES V announcement sale.

So says the season sitting right smack in the middle of the year! People know exactly when the summer of '69 was, that was right smack in the middle of 1969! But what about the winter of '69? Was it the one that started in December of '69 or the one that finished in March of '69? It could refer to two completely different yet still comparably snowy winters.

Oh, I wish you'd come back too, I have to wait all the way through this fall, this winter and this spring to get to next summer. It's when the big bugs come out.

O_o

I wonder what people do when they live on the equator and it's in the middle of winter in the north? Like, can they walk a few feet south, cross the equator, and be in summer all of a sudden? They could play hopscotch and shout out "Winter! Summer! Winter! Summer!"

Yes, I know the seasons work differently down there (with it either being dry or wet or monsoon or HOLY CRAP it is HOT OUT!!!!) because of it being equatory and all, still, it's something random and funny I like to think about! LOLOLOLOL!

*end of segue*

I hope Elder Scrolls V comes somewhere in between this Halloween and next Halloween.

That would be nice. I do think November is the most likely month for an announcement.

Here's hoping.

Perhaps it's different because it's being made by obsidian and only being published by gamesas?

Well, the release date is mostly decided by the publisher. So i agree that the time between announcement and release will be close to Fallout New Vegas'

I certainly hope not. New Vegas was announced in April 2009, and it wont be out until October 2010. That's 18 months. Oblivion took the same amount of time. But Todd said it would be their shortest time between announcement and release yet so it will have to be significantly shorter than 18 months.

Plus, it was a VERY long time before we heard anything about New Vegas after it was announced. I don't understand why any game developer thinks it's a good idea to do that sort of thing.

*emphasis added

I think that's possible or early next year, for an announcement I mean.

Pete Hines is (for those who don't know) VP of gamesas and in charge of PR. Todd Howard is Executive Producer, highest dude who actually works on games in BGS.
So, I think that could be possibly concluded from this interview. That the developing is at the right stage, but the PR/marketing/business or something isn't ready yet, or not the right timing.

That makes sense. The best thing about that is that BGS is working unhampered on their project. It's just that Beth Softworks is a little busy marketing all these games. As soon as there is an opening, I'm sure we'll start getting teased a little.

Here's a thought: is it at all possible that we could see a teaser to BGS's next project in New Vegas's booklet, or in the box? Maybe a little piece of paper with a silhouette of something that would imply a new game. Both Dragon Age and Halo 3:ODST did this for their next projects. Seeing that Bethesda is working pretty closely with Obsidian, I think it's at least a little possible.
