Official TES V Speculation Thread #68

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 6:46 pm

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1112872-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-177/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. Any claims to having insider information will be removed. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

Note that Bethesda Game Studios is NOT working on Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, Brink, or Hunted: The Demon's Forge -- Nor do they develop MMOs.

Well, I don't think we can judge their status based on what jobs they have available. They have a team of 90+ people, surely they have everyone they need already. Perhaps they're simply looking to expand their team. Plus, the jobs they were asking for are wide-ranging. I'm sure they have plenty of level designers, animators, quest designers, and so on, already.

They have at least one of everything, yes, but by seeing what they need we can tell what they are focusing on. For instance, there are several modeling positions available, which would not be there in the late stages of production.

Well whatever the case may be, we already know the status of their development, which is that there's enough there that Todd would feel proud to show it right now if he had to. That's good enough for me. Frankly I'm more concerned about when we'll be getting an announcement than I am about how far it is in development. We know that the time between it's announcement and release will be shorter than Oblivion's (1 1/2 years), so I feel that once it's announced, the release wont be ridiculously far off.

They have got to be working on something big, no announcements and its been 4 yrs since Oblivion, I'm surprised that they haven't announced TES V yet. Even if they have to upgrade Gamebryo (Which all they really need to do to the system is reduce the glitches) it shouldn't take that long to do it.

My guess is well bethesda said that they were upgrading the engine that should take a certain amount of time. Hopefully during that same time another team is coming up with the story for TES V and the place where TES V is going to happen (Skyrim or Summerset Isle is most likely the place where TESV will occur). They also said that another book was gonna come out after Infernal City so I'm guessing after that 2nd book comes out give it a month or two and then they will announce TES V hopefully in time for the E3 show that year, 2011 or 2012.

It's been 4 1/2 years since Oblivion but they've only been working on their current project for 2 years. As for the next book, I still say the book doesn't have to, and likely wont, be revealed in detail, let alone released, before the announcement of TES V.

This has no doubt been said, but what have they been doing for 2 years after oblivion? Just fallout?

Oblivion had some criticisms about gamesas rushing the project, I think they are trying to not make that mistake again personally.

But their team has expanded so it will probably even out.

While I don't have any bearing on the announcement day beyond the done-to-death discussion, I can have doubters take heart using, gasp! BioShock.

BioShock is proof that in the gaming industry, no matter how finished the plotline of a game series is, it will continue to have new installments as long as the series is financially viable. Anyone have the sales figures for Oblivion?

From what I can glean, it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-7 million units. Possibly more.

Todd has said that there was at least some pre-production of their current project before Fallout 3's release, but when exactly they started that pre-production is up in the air, and will remain up in the air until the game is announced and Todd or someone else can clarify.

Damn straight! Therefore, by simple reason, I have proven that TES will continue :D

...Also the fact that Pete said that they would definitely be doing another Elder Scrolls game might have proven that too. :whistling:

Hopefully. Nick said it would definitely be coming out on the 30th but he didn't respond to the pm I sent a few days ago asking if it was still on schedule. But the last podcast two weeks ago didn't come out until a bit later in the day anyway, so we should probably wait a few more hours before getting worried.

I know Pete said it. This is just to assuage the "OMG iz tere another tes gam evar?" people. You know, the people for whom developer comments don't seem to mean much.

hmm maybe. I can definitely see art being worked on in fairly late stages of dev though. like all creatures, outfits, weapons, clutter, hair, anything cosmetic could be added quite late in the scheme of things.

According to some of bethesda staff's twitter feeds there was a power outage at Bethesda HQ today, causing some of them (if not all) to leave early... Perhaps this could be a reason for the podcast delay?

It's possible, I guess. I mean it's definitely already been recorded, so I suppose they could be having problems uploading it. But like I said, we should wait a few more hours before getting worried.

Yes, I agree which devs are you following? I'd like a link as well.

Maybe they are confirming ESV on a PodCast today and just want to make us suffer horribly and only worship them even more for it. Or they are doing a double length special and the high quality audio file is taking longer to upload :celebration: :banghead:

Guess what happened on 9/28?

Awe, come on... guess...

Spoiler
The CURRENT Skyrim trademark was Published for Opposition!!

Now if you guessed wrong, you lose. And you don't care. If you guessed right, then the following might mean something to you:

The trademark for Oblivion (the second mark, the living mark, not the dead mark) followed this timeline:

12/17/2004 - Approved For Pub - Principal Register (i.e. published for opposition)

3/20/2006 - TESIV: Oblivion Release Date

1 yr 3 months from this date until release.

Now if this were exactly followed, and they announced the game today, it would still be the shortest time between an announcement and a release for a TES game, should it be Skyrim.

Just something interesting to ponder for those who keep an eye on the trademark stuff. Don't get your panties in a bunch and go all "trademarks are meaningless and there is nothing to glean from this" because I was just making an interesting thought into words that some people might find interesting (but most will not).

So this sounds like somebody is trying to challenge Bethesda, do we know anybody else that has the skyrim license? Perhaps a a website was challenged and is fighting back.
...or I know nothing about trade marks.

Well actually it is a stage in the trademark process, what happens from here is that there is an opposition period (a couple of months from now) where a company can oppose the mark.

The only parallels that I find are that:

Oblivion had marks that died and they filed for new ones, and the new ones became the game TESIV

Skyrim had marks that died and they filed for new ones, and the new ones... haven't become anything yet.

If you just assume that they are going to follow along in the same timeline then you can see with the Oblivion marks, 1yr and 3 months from the date of Pub for Opposition we had the game in our hands, and also that on 9/28 the Skryim mark reached this stage-- it is easy to see that if an announcement came anytime now, it would still be within Todd's statement of "shortest time between announcement and release".

Tis all!

Very interesting. When was Oblivion officially announced? What I'd really like to know is the length of time between when Oblivion was published for opposition till when it was announed. That might give us an idea of when TES V will be announced...

Oblivion was already announced before it was published for opposition. Which I suppose answers my question.
