Official TES V Speculation Thread #69

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:56 pm

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1112872-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-177/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. Any claims to having insider information will be removed. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

Note that Bethesda Game Studios is NOT working on Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, Brink, or Hunted: The Demon's Forge -- Nor do they develop MMOs.

Can someone shed some light on this:

Did Todd Howard or Bethesda say they had something, but aren't ready to show it?

Can't remember when or where I heard this.

Yes. It was in the Eurogamer Interview with Todd Howard.

Eurogamer: You've been working on something secret now for two years. Do you have any sense yet of when you will be able to talk about it or even say what it is? Are going to be sat here next year answering the same question?

Todd Howard: I don't know [laughs]. I have a sense but we're not ready even to talk about that, because it might change. I don't want to disappoint people.

One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now.

You know, if Pete Hines came in and said, "I want you to show it," I'd be like, "Okay, I'm ready to show it." But we've just decided for now not to yet.

According to ZeniMax founder and CEO Robert Altman, "A number of prominent private equity firms offered to invest with us on attractive terms." That's not hard to believe if you take a look at the upcoming slate of game coming from ZeniMax's subsidiaries, including Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, and whatever Bethesda Game Studios is working on next.

Well then. That sounds reassuring, if in a vague way. It gives no actual information, but they do have even more money.

ATTENTION:

The mysterious Twitter Account has just been updated!

This twitter account was posted earlier in this thread, and I was trying to find it to show it to a friend and noticed that the last update since august 16th was just 4 hours ago. The text of the Tweet is as follows:

Listen up everyone -- with the release of Fallout New Vegas this month we draw closer to the big announcement! Retweet this good news!

I never trust anything from twitter anyway. But it is reasonable speculation that, when New Vegas is out, they might start gearing up for another in-house game, TES or that other, lesser thing.

I think regardless of when ESV is announced, I'd be willing to bet that it'll be released next holiday season. Even if they announced it in a few weeks, that would still be the shortest window they've ever had between announcement and release right? Like November 2010 announcement to December 2011 release would be just over a year.

Yes, he's the culprit. He had the brilliant idea to create a bunch of TESV related accounts...I think just to humor us whenever someone unwittingly posts a link to it believing they've just uncovered something. It's actually kinda funny when you think about it... :P

If I remember correctly it was when we were discussing how all of the other Bethesda IPs had twitter accounts and TES did not, but now it is kinda funny. Always did like that kid.

Just here to remind everyone that the new trend in video game marketing is to push your game really big with less than a year until it comes out. For example:
Red Dead Redemption, which had trailers, previews, and etc. all slammed out in the last six months of it's development despite being announced years before that.
Left 4 Dead 2, which had what, 4 months from announcement to release and a $50 million dollar advertising campaign
POrtal 2 which was, supposed to be, out within six months of it's announcement.
GTA 4, which had about 8 months from it's first trailer to release.

So, c learly the strategy of announcing a game 4 years from it's release is falling out of favor, and less than a year very much coming into favor. Makes sense to, since you've got X dollars to spend on marketing, and you might as well go for a bigger campaign in a shorter time rather than stretching out your hype and money over a longer time. All this of course meaning that no announcement this year does not preclude a release next year, and of course fit's Todd's quote of being the fastest from announcement to release in exacting terms.

from past threads the best assumption was the announcement of ESV to be in the next coming months, with the latest possible announcement date being around quakecon next year. Also it seems that its only a year after that until we can have a new skooma party.( Todd said this will be the shortest time between announcement and release, giving him a little over a year)
but all the speculation going on currently is based on the assumption that the game that Todd and his team have been developing is ESV.
-but there are enough reasons to say that this is the most plausible situation.
i am with the team saying that we have to wait until after fallout new vegas for an announcement, but it will happen within the next few months.

Yeah I'm convinced that it'll be within the next few months, probably November. Because following the "little over a year" time window, that would put the game's release at holiday season next year. With a game this big I can almost guarantee you they'll want to release it at a time when it'll be a popular Christmas/Hanukkah present.

Quakecon 2011 my ass. I refer you to my http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1118503-official-tes-v-speculation-thread-68/page__view__findpost__p__16458434:

Yes, but there's no way in hell they'll be waiting until anywhere near Quakecon 2011 to announce TES V. If they do, I will personally mail Todd a copy of a dictionary with a sticky-note under the definition of "soon."

Well it has been a ridicules 4 years since oblivion, and the next bench mark of graphics processing chips have just been announced. If there waiting for the DX11 hardware to mature then I would say we should see it on the shelves august of 2011, that leaves plenty of time for gross marketing and is far enough away from the holiday season were it's not considered a purchase but close enough the the summer were people will hold off for it. Fall of 2011 seems very likely and I don't think they would wait any longer than 2011 because by that time the DX11 hardware will have matured and studios will developing for it at full potential on a regular basis. Not to mention if they added in kinect/move support and 3D as well to draw you into the game yet still have normal controls as an option. Don't forget that 3d is just coming around it needs a game like an Elder Scrolls series to really kick it in the nutz, in otherwords the Avatar of gaming with much better plot :celebration: 2011 is the Perfect year for an Elder Scrolls game otherwise they miss there launch window and we would probably have to wait another year or so for the next DX and graphics chip sets to come out.

a little over 4 1/2, to be exact...

I just need to stress that to any viewing Bethesda staff members. This wait is now closer to 5 years than 4. Oblivion is nearly half a decade old, so it's getting to be ancient by gaming standards.

August is pretty optimistic. Todd did say it would be the shortest time between announcement and release, but that doesn't mean much. I don't know the exact dates, but if that time period for Oblivion was 14 months, I can almost guarantee you they will do it in 13 months and 3 weeks. In other words, even if it's technically the shortest window, we shouldn't expect anything extraordinary.

Like I said before, ES is a prime game for the holiday season so I would guess that they would release it late November/early December of 2011. So that's still more than a year away. If they announce it in November that would be a year between announcement and release, which I think is pretty short by gamesas's standards (at least from what i've seen from them).

I don't mean to be a bummer here but we do know from what Todd has stated that the game they are working on will be released on current generation consoles, of which none are DX11 capable, and only one is 3D capable.

Actually that is still an approximation, 4 years 6 months and 18 days is exact, haha, but since time is a moving target we could only ever make approximations, so who cares!! :)

Well, this may be a minute or two off by the time I post, but it's actually 4 years 6 months 18 days 8 hours 42 minutes and 16 seconds. :P

Anyway, the game is old. It's where Morrowind was in late 2006, except for one thing. Morrowind's sequel had been released by late 2006. Oblivion's sequel hasn't even been announced. Get the point, Bethesda? :P
