Official TES V Speculation Thread #70

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:26 am

To clarify, my sources on the fact that October 25 will be the announcement date are not necessarily to be trusted. I have a friend in New York, yadda yadda, I'm not sure if he was kidding or not. (Although he has met several Bethesda Employees as part of his school program.,..

Uh, that gameinformer article isn't saying Bethesda Game Studios is making an MMO, and it isn't confusing Bethesda Game Studios with Zenimax online.

http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/10/16/is-bethesda-s-next-game-an-elder-scrolls-mmo.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage

So, they're not spreading misinformation.

They are in the sense that they named their article "Is The Next Elder Scrolls Game An MMO?" Your average gamer will think that they mean TES V, not that TES V and the MMO are separate games. It doesn't help that they say "could that inevitable online extension be the next game in the series?" They do nothing in their article to separate the MMO and TES V, and make it sound as if they're the same game, but that Bethesda just isn't working on it themselves.

Okay, first they cite the systemlink rumor that Bethesda is working on an MMO. Then they attempt to debunk that rumor. The article is only misleading if you don't read it.

i am very confused, is the general consensus that the Elders scroll V will indeed be single player storyline, just as all the previous ones have been and that there is an elders scrolls mmo in the works as a seperate thing? Or are people implying that there is ONLY an MMO in the works?

As I said, even if you read it they don't do enough to separate TES V and the MMO. They barely do that at all. Making an article, attempting to debunk the rumor, then not mentioning that the MMO WOULD NOT be the next in the series as they asked in their article, is spreading more misinformation than not. I would have been fine with the article if they clearly stated "TES V and this potential MMO would be two completely different games," but they didn't.

Also, when did Todd say we wouldn't see a Fallout 4 until 2012? We've been following Todd's comments like hawks here for months now and I've never seen him say that.

That's exactly what they're trying to say, they're just being subtle.

"However, the System Link story assumes that Bethesda Game Studios and ZeniMax Online Studios are working on the same project, which doesn't seem as likely."

Translation: BGS and Zenimax online are different studios working on different projects.

Look, the reason I'm bringing this up at all is that this thread has driven a lot of you completely insane. You smell the slightest wiff of a rumor and you bounce on it like wild dogs. You all think everything must be confirmed or refuted. Stop. Breathe. It will be okay. Distaste for the BGS MMO rumor led some of you to denounce an article which actually agreed with you in denouncing the BGS MMO rumor. I was hoping by pointing that out you might stop reacting to everything on reflex.

On second thought, that was a stupid assumption. Okay, then. Those idiots at gameinformer bought into that TES V MMO rumor? Geez, you can't trust anyone.

You should know by now that everyone on this forum does this about once a month. You pointing it out doesn't effect anything, to be honest. I wish it did, but it's an effort in vain.

On another note:
Hey everyone, Amanda here. I'm a big twitter user (follow me!!) and also a big elderscrolls fan and i heard about the game informer rumours so i decided to snoop around twitter and see what i could dig up.I found this page with a pretty legitimate URL. The image appears to be a roman numeral of the number five and the background is covered in what looks like frost or snow. Did i find it?! Did i find the elderscrolls V??!?!!

She gets a little too excited.

Believe me, I know. I've been waiting far too long for an announcement of TESV. But this whole thing with "I've spoken with a Bethesda employee and he told me ESV will be announced soon" has happened more times than I care to count.

The TES MMO is almost definitely happening, there isn't anything we can do about that. The reason we, or at least I, are so sensitive regarding articles saying BGS may be doing an MMO is because it happens so annoyingly often and it only serves to make the day that MMO is announced more hectic for us regulars here. If Bethesda announces the MMO before TES V, it will be absolute chaos on these forums due to a huge influx of new members saying "OMG BETHISDA MAED TES V I MMO DEY IS SELLOUTSS," and articles that don't clearly state http://bethblog.com/index.php/2009/08/17/clarifying-about-next-elder-scrolls-game-mmo-etc/ only increases the number of people who believe it.

Anyway, we should drop this. We have an entirely separate thread for MMO discussion anyway.

Actually, if Zenimax Online wanted to break into an MMO the genre they could be working on any number of new titles....We need a thread for speculation of the Zenimax Online MMO. :celebration:

I guess that would go in the community discussion area since it wouldn't apply to any of the known IPs (so long as it remains speculation) but as it pertains to TES, there is the Multiplayer thread... though it's kinda dead in there.

Going back to current speculation though, I do think it is interesting that GI would even post an article like that and Mr Tissue made a pretty good observation there. I think after Tuesday I'll really be on the lookout for some indication that Softworks will be aligning for a new push (though I suspect they'll take a wee bit of time off before jumping headlong into the frenzy that would surely ensue from TESV being revealed).

I think we are obsessed. Well, if there is an announcement on the 25th, yes! If not, back to Oblivion. Crossing my fingers.

Its a long and boring story about someone who subscribes to my blog owning a advertising firm yadayadayada.

Since today seems to be Igloo's prank day. I'd like to hear what this yadda yadda entails.

I for one doubt it's going to be an MMO...however they did that with the old republic so it's entirely possible. That was posted recently and seems like some hype for the game.

Edit: ALSO system link spread a recent rumor that TESV is definitely in production and was headed to the PS3 as well so I doubt it's an mmo

No pranks. I don't trust my source, but this (as far as I can remember), is the conversation we had.

Me: So, you getting New Vegas?
Friend: Yeah! It looks sick! Can't wait till after it comes out.
Me: Why?
Friend: You know that guy who works for bethesda who I was telling you about?
Me: Yea...
Friend: He told me they are planning on announcing something ****ing BIG right before halloween. Like...the biggest thing they've ever done, by like a thousand.
Me: Really? And he just told you this????
Friend: Yea Man!! (Or something) He said the companys in a rush cause they are trying to be ready for the monday before halloween.
Me: I see...
Friend: Man, please don't post this on the internet...(He didn't actually say this...)

My friend's kinda dumb, but he has made pretty good predictions in the past.

GUYS I HAVE BIG NEWS

I was talking to my cat a little while ago about the war in Afghanistan when he put down his newspaper, put his pipe on the table and told me, very frankly:

Sparkles Fantastic: Antibody, Bethesda will announce TES V at 2:35 pm Eastern on October 25th, 2010.

Me: ...How do you know this?

Sparkles: I ran into an old friend from college yesterday, at the supermarket. The cereal aisle, to be exact. Told me he changed his name to Todd Howard and got a gig at some place called Bethesda. Said all this stuff about TES V, took a couple swigs from a bottle of gin he had hidden in a paper bag and took off running out of the store yelling something about being superman. Figure'd I'd tell you about that so you could post it on yer speculation thread on dem internets.

Me: Wow, that sounds very credible, I'll go do that right away!

And here I am. So, yeah, my story is very reasonable and I think you should all believe me. :)
