No, we aren't pushing it back now, but we have pushed it back multiple times in this thread's existence. For example, last July we were really positive it would be announced before the end of July, but obviously that didn't happen.

But that was also due to the only current information at the time: The trademarks.

But it turned out it was much easier to get a trademark than we thought, but now they (seemingly) have showed something to prove they're using the new marks to the USTO.

However, they might be able to announce it before their trademark solidifies, but I doubt that.

But then again...

For me, the music made most of the game. It has the ability to heighten your senses in such a fashion that is unlike any other music I've come across. The coolest thing about that I think, is how you never tire of it.

Someone posted earlier about releasing for the anniversary. It would make sense although that would make me nervous. The last thing I want is for the dev's to be rushing to meet a deadline. Release it when its done. We'll still all buy it and if a tangled mess is released it will get lousy reviews and there will be no new fans. The next six years of this forum will be full of people saying things like "This series has gone downhill since DF, MW, Oblivion.' etc.

They actually have to announce it before their trademark solidifies, that is how they will obtain their "statement of use" and actually obtain the registered trademark. It is still in the application process until then.

This is very true. The most recent example I can recall the general populace getting so upset about was the C&C Franchise. Such a rush to make a dollar that it has screwed that company, and now I believe they are scrambling. I certainly hope that Bethesda does not make that same mistake (although I don't believe they will).

I cross my fingers it's not, but I can't help but think this is a MMORPG.

TES V won't be an MMO. BGS has stated that they don't do MMOs. Zenimax online might be making a TES MMO, but it won't be TES V.

Could you show me where they said that?

To be clear, Todd and his team do not make MMOs, for any franchise, at all. We have another division ZeniMax Online Studios which is lead by Matt Firor, and they are working on an MMO. They have not said anything about what game they are making. When ZeniMax Online is ready to show what they are up to, we’ll let everyone know. Until then we aren’t going to provide hints or speculate on what they’re doing either.

(Which was also linked in the OP, btw ;))

That's great. I was getting worried considering it's been almost 2 years without any words whatsoever. I couldn't think of anything other than a MMORPG that would require so much (pre+)production before having anything substantial to announce. Maybe they are pulling an Nintendo with this one.

So I was curious and dug up some old Archive pages to see what the count-down to Oblivion's announcement looked like. Well, it turns out the URLs from those days still work, at least until the number "eight". So, they started eight days ahead of the announcement date?

The date of announcement was 9/10/2004, the number 7 day is what came up for 9/4/2004.

If the announcement of TESV is done in exactly the same way, with seven or eight days ahead (although the "one" page pretty much revealed the title), for 10/25 to be the date of TESV's announcement, the countdown should start tomorrow.

Now, what if that is not the case? What if the countdown starts on 10/25. That would leave the day of the actual announcement and a week of this thread EXPLODING until 11/1/2010.

I know the 10/25 thing is itself speculation, but that's the point! I like set dates and looking at them, even if they disappoint, because it is just another step in the timeline to look forward to. I look forward to album releases all the time, and often times those get leaked onto the internet way ahead of time.

Last time I ate a banana was in 2008... hmm.

Another possibility, perhaps the announcement is 10/26, which is exactly a week after this Tuesday, the release of New Vegas. For all I know the announcement could even be 10/20, the day after, or 10/19, the day of.

I really don't care for bananas... maybe that's why... hmm.

When I read the Game Informer article about the MMO rumors, I at first smacked my head because it contained nothing new. This was all stuff I already knew - I knew about Zenimax Online Studios and I know that they are definitely separate from Bethesda Game Studios and BGS does not make MMOs (do I get a cookie?), and the rumors started when ZOS first came about and revealed that they are working on an MMO. But, why post an article like this?

I hear bananas are a good source of potassium for praying mantises, madagascar hissing cockroaches and other pet insects. Insects are also really cute! hmm.

What if Game Informer posted that article just to stir the soup a bit (sort of speak) and cause people to start checking the site more often for TES related news. The article itself was old news, but what if it was posted intentionally in anticipation of something new? Like, an announcement of TESV, and the fact that it is NOT a frelling MMO. I like using the word frelling. I don't think I've used the word frelling in a while, but I sure love me some Farscape!

It'd be funny to have a banana weapon mod in Oblivion that was under "Blunt" and did like one point of damage, but it came with a quest that you had to kill a Xivilai with it. The Banana of Terripilation... hmm.

So, I am banking on the next event of major TES related news being 10/25 at the earliest. It'd be nice to get something a day after New Vegas, but I think they might wait a week and be like, "Okay, you guys have been playing this new game Obsidian made for you Fallout fans... enjoying it? Good, because next year you got something else to look forward to... LOLOLOL!!!!" but then end the post there and leave us to speculate more then be like "its TESV btw LOLOLOL!!!" or something.

Well, I'm going to finish this post, then get back to homework, since I want to get everything done before Tuesday so I can spend that entire day playing New Vegas.

Would a TES: V announcement increase sales for New Vegas? Bethesda would certainly gain a lot of attention.

I don't think the news would impact sales enough to abandon a more strategic announcement date. They have marketers and bs artists* to think of these things, though, so what do I know?

* Of course, everyone is a valued member of the team, even the offal-sculptors. How could they sell these game without you?

To be fair, I don't really think there's anything to the 25th being the date of the announcement. I've personally begun to suspect that my magical cat was pulling my leg on this one.

I really doubt we'll see an announcement on the 19th, or any time shortly after it. I suspect that after the European release on the 22nd they'll still want to wait a few more days for the hype to die down before announcing it, assuming they even plan to announce it so soon.

...wait is that really where we got the October 25th announcement from? I was wondering where that date came from... and I may have missed a few posts back there. Are we really all speculating on the date his magical cat gave us? (not that I have anything against magical, cigar smoking felines)

Well Zenimax did say that when a new game was going to be announced in a month or so they did hence that game was brink. So when Todd say's soon...he probably means before the end of this year or that we would love to announce it we just don't want to yet...by Todd saying there's a lot of game to show he is pretty much already saying that it's already done....and through the pipeline. I would imagine they have been rolling people over into there next project.

I am quite sure that the game will not be announced until after FONV is released worldwide as well, and perhaps there are some tired folks who'll want a little respite before taking on the mammoth TESV marketing project, so perhaps a simmering period after is in due course as well. Frankly if it does happen on the Famed Feline Divined Date (or FFDD as it is known by the Mayan's and a small sect of modern druids) then I will be gleefully shocked on 10/25!

No I believe my cat had actually predicted the same date as IglooGreenhouse did:

To clarify, my sources on the fact that October 25 will be the announcement date are not necessarily to be trusted. I have a friend in New York, yadda yadda, I'm not sure if he was kidding or not. (Although he has met several Bethesda Employees as part of his school program.,..

So if it is announced on the 25th I think my cat and IglooGreenhouse should start a psychic hotline of some sort.

Huh? When did they say a new game would be announced in a month? Even if they did, it couldn't have been Brink because it was announced a long while ago.

Let's just hope that they don't attach banners to the rear of planes and fly around, or for that matter put something on a billboard. I think its 100% possible that if i saw something like that while driving that I would go clear off the road all while pissing myself lol. Something else that would be cool is if they incorporated that into movie theatres. By that I mean like the beginning previews, and turn that preview into the trailer for it, I would start screaming and throwing my popcorn all over the place :celebration:

"a poor drink, there with all the hope of the world in it to become the most gratifying, most thirst quenching, most tasteful drink anyone could ever have, and now it lays there on the musky, carpeted ground, slowly dripping in its own sad, respectful sort of way. All of its past glory released into the atmosphere as a slow chill floats its way into the room. nothing but gleeful breaths can be heard as the memory of the lost beverage fades into the distance only to be replaced by a paralyzing feeling of anxiety, and joy overcomes everyone in the room as he or she views a simple, short preview of a long awaited video-game."
^my description on the trailer of the game being the first announcement.
it would require a good movie to go along with it, so its a longshot to expect that but i just had to share what i think movie goers (at least my) reactions would be

also i hope for the 25th but so far i only see that being a random date someone daid, but it seems to me to be the earliest date reasonable, just because i think by then enough people would have bought New:Vegas by then to provide a big-enough fan-base to make more people want to play that game, while providing enough hype for Bethesda game studios to provide further possibility of a great 'word of mouth' advertising situation for both games.
so i iam actually putting 3 dollars on a release date between the 25th through march as others have stated. not enough to hurt me too bad since i am in college, but still enough to show that i really think that its going to be in that time frame.

I think he means that a month before Brink was announced, they said there would be a game announcement.

Man, BGS must love this thread. Imagine being the developer of a game that has 710 pages of speculation solely on when it might be announced and released. I have never heard of that kind of fan devotion to any other game.

Back on topic, I think it's likely that we'll see an announcement in the week before halloween. That announcement will probably just be a big "V" on their website, but still. I wonder how much actual info about the game will be in the inevitable GI cover story?
