Official TES V Speculation Thread #72

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:57 am

My problem isn't with the bugs of New Vegas but the fact that while Obsidian definitely improved on most things from Fallout 3, such as quests and factions, they came nowhere near creating a world as interesting and fun as Fallout 3's, or any Bethesda game. They just couldn't match Bethesda in that department, imho. It'll probably take me a total of 100 hours or so to finish New Vegas but no way it will last me as long as Fallout 3 or Morrowind have.

At any rate, I don't think buying Obsidian would be a smart move for Zenimax. Obsidian has only ever developed a single new IP, Alpha Protocol, which while a good RPG was buggy as hell. The rest of their games come from the IPs of other developers. I don't know if it would be wise for Zenimax to purchase a developer with such a small profile of IPs. Fallout: New Vegas may have sold well but there's no way they're going to try to make another Fallout game until they have a "new" engine to use from Fallout 4, if they do at all. Obsidian just barely squeezed by with using this engine and left behind tons of bugs in the process.

Don't forget that The Elder Scrolls is Bethesda's baby. The core team actually thought up the whole world for their tabletop gaming campaign iirc, so I think they want to keep TES in their own hands.

if FO:NV was a probationary run then they should just stay on probation... the amount of bugs seen across the board is unacceptable

OFT

Other than the bugs though I think they did a pretty good job. I feel much more immersed in NV, as a matter of tone and dialogue, than I did in FO3. The enemies seem more intense and focused in their actions too. Obsidian's lack of addressing QC issues turned a solid B+ into a D/C-.

I am just waiting on any news about the new game... it was august the last time anything with any weight happened.

also wasn't it a few threads ago when someone stated that it would be announced today?
it hasn't but i was just wondering.

Not conclusive by any means, but if you look at the job postings up for BGS, they're starting to hire programmers, quest designers, texture artists, (etc) for "future next generation products." Aka, it seems they're starting to transition more heavily into their next game. I suspect we'll hear what they're up to sooner rather than later.

I should clarify, by next game I mean whatever it is they have in the pipline after the one they are currently finishing.

Or they are firing all the people who worked with obsidian. This is far less likely but with all the bugs you can't help but wonder......

That person Amanda who we outed to be lying said so. Igloo Greenhouse said so too, but I'm pretty sure he was kidding. And my magical cat backed up his claim, but, again, I think he was kidding as well.

lol. Seems funny to lie about something just to be blatantly proven wrong a few days later. Some people...

BTW.. at the time Amanda's "story" sounded fake anyway. If i remember correctly they were in a casino and at no point did she tell this "asian man who worked for Bethesda" that she was interested in video games, then all of a sudden he turns to her and says elder scrolls is going to be announced... yeah right.

Agreed!

I think it is important to point out what should be obvious, and is already obvious to most of us... this thread is about our best guesses as to when an announcement of TESV will be made... no one will ever be preempting this announcement by providing information on a video game studio's fan forum... that is just lunacy. You can pretty much disregard anyone's story or anything close to "secret" info. The point of this forum from a community stand point it to keep TESV clutter out of the main forum and since there is no official info, it is just speculation that it exists. The very moment BGS spills the beans, this thread will likely be locked forever, but no poster will be spilling the beans for them-- no matter how ridiculous their story is!

My dreams have been crushed by your logical and sadly true words. :sadvaultboy:

1. To somehow announce the game to everybody.

2. To keep the thread alive (foreverrrrrrrr)

But anyway, I'm hoping now that the NV announcement is out of the way they might announce it soon. There's no way they'll be able to release within 2 months of an announcement unless they're already done with the game (which is very very very very very very unlikely).

I'm just ready for that new game. :D ... Except I don't have the money. :(

As soon as this thread goes down a new one will be started for TESVI. The same happened on the fallout forums, as soon as NV was announced a new thread started speculating about FO4 and a suggestion thread had been opened before NV came out.

Speculation on Speculation. I like it. :D

I don't think many people will be ready for TES:VI for a while unless TES:V is as successful as a lead balloon, though. So the speculation will probably slow for a while. It'll be there, but I'm speculating it'll be slower.

TES seems to have less easily distracted people who have the attention span of a goldfish (please don't correct me by saying they have a memory of 3 months) than fallout does. FO fans are mostly from FPS backgrounds meaning they have no real dedication to RPGs.

Goldfish aside*twitch*... I think people in the FPS market are just used to having a new big game to play every month or so. We, on the other hand, get RPGs every once in a while, and most aren't Open-World.

Speculatively speaking, the next podcast sounds like a very good estimate. However, a PodCast isn't the best way to announce something if you want to get it out to a lot of people. Yeah, we'd spread it around, but there will be people it doesn't reach. I think Bethesda knows well enough that they can announce it any way and the forums will have that information within 5 hours. Setting up an announcement on their site, a game website, or a magazine would reach a wider range of people than the people listening to the Podcasts... IMHO anyway.

If they want money they're going to ride the TES:III-TES:IV-FO3-FO:NV train to a place where they'll be widely recognized as the producers of those games and get a lot of new people interested.

You may or may not have been keeping an eye on Pete Hines and the Softworks crew to gain a glimpse at some of the extravagant marketing strategies they have begun to employ. How about a massive dinosaur or huge billboards, free taxi rides in NYC, and more expensive CG trailers and commercials than you can shake a stick at. The point being, they aren't going to whisper the announcement quietly into the night and let it travel about... they are likely going to release it with a fervor on some level consistent with these bigger demonstrations.

...

:stare:

Anyway...

Once TES V is announced whichever edition of this thread that is open will likely be moved to the new TES V forum, and no more speculation threads will be created. A TES VI thread wont be created or likely even allowed until at some point after TES V's release, because there's no point in speculating on the sequel to a game that isn't even out yet. Luckily until the first TES VI thread is made the Fallout 4 Speculation thread will be open, and considering it's almost definitely the next game to be released after TES V we can all just go there.

Just because you said "mostly" doesn't make it any less insulting to those of us who do enjoy both RPGs and Fallout. No, I'm not denying that there are plenty of people who just play Fallout 3 and NV for the FPS aspect, but there are also plenty of people who play TES for the combat and not the RPG aspects. Neither TES or Fallout is composed "mostly" of FPS fans with "no real dedication to RPGs."

And for the record, I very much dislike FPSs and there are few I can actually tolerate playing, yet I still loved Fallout 3 because of the amazing world Bethesda made in it.

Edit: Removed parts that might be considered flamey.

I dislike FPSs and also like fallout but I prefer TES and everyone else I have met who plays fallout haven't even heard of any RPG except for the fact that it stands for Rocket propelled grenade in COD. Some are of course RPG fans who have a far longer concentration period. They are the elephant (or camels if you are from ancient greece) of the gaming world to the goldfish of FPS players.

So I just went to http://www.elderscrolls.com/home/home.php website and an age gate came up. My level of excitement at a possible R16 trailer having been posted was only matched by my utter depression of finding nothing after putting my birthday in.

What was that about!?

The age gate has to do with the new ESRB rating system for websites. So now a 14 year old won't be able to randomly view the TES site...in theory. I wouldn't read anything new into it.

EDIT: You can read about it here.

I love it. It's just so much fun to play in a Bethesda-made world.

What would be a long concentration period? I've played Oblivion since... 2008. That's for 2 years. Scary.
