Official TES V Speculation Thread #72

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:31 am

Hey I was just saying you shouldnt get your (or my) hopes up.

Lol, I know your being sarcastic dude, but for lack of better word you don't need to be a [censored] or come off that way. I am keeping my hopes up because it's gotta look at least as good or nearly as good as Rage. I mean, sheesh it's a flashship title bro.

Now back on topic...release date mmm...probably holiday of 2011 or early 2012.

Man, they appear to be experiencing some problems on the NV thread.... I personally have not....just a few weird things, nothing major. The reason for my post is I only wonder what Marketing, IE Pete Hines and staff were thinking? Release FO NV, let Obsidian work on the bugs.....And then drop the ESV bomb? I just don't understand what the hold up is? I swear when I picked up NV the other day, it looked just like a BGS game to someone who has no idea of what is really going on. It plays just like FO3, so the average gamer who does not lurk on the forums could easily mistake this as a game made by BGS. With that said, What are people going to think?

Do you guys think this was part of their marketing strategy all along, or just a real bad backfire for marketing? This is kinda a tricky spot for BETH Softworks.

One has to wonder if Obsidian had pressure to launch earlier than later with the looming announcement of BGS's next big game. I think they want to announce very very soon.

Old news -- but even old news seem to have a way of passing some people by - so good of you to post. Probably smart to do it this early in a new thread - seeing that it's too much of a bother for some people (probably the same people) to read previous threads.

Anyway, now that New Vegas has come to the most important continent, this one - I'm looking forward to an announcement before the end of the month. I won't be disappointed if one doesn't come, so I'll push my expectations all the way to mid-November. If they haven't announced it by then, I see only slim chances they will at all before next year - with all the media fuzz that's bound to fill December. If they wait that long I'll be really disappointed because then I doubt it'll come out in 2011. "Short" will probably be like dwarf short - not hobbit short...

So where can we read the "company's blog". It is obviously not Bethblog, because that is all NV now.

And while this sounds reassuring, it is nothing new really.

I just found http://www.whois-search.com/whois/www.elderscrolls5.com after I read http://systemlink.gamersguidetolife.com/2010/09/rumour-elder-scrolls-v-definitely-in.html.

I don't know anything about domain names. I also don't know of either of those links have been brought up here before. Can anyone make sense of this stuff?

The Sony rumor has already been discussed a few threads back. The general consensus is that it really doesn't add much in terms of what we believe we already know - namely that ES:V is probably in development. I lop it into the category of "pvssyr" in that by itself it offers little but it does add to the pool of other unsubstantiated pieces of positive information.

I don't believe the domain registration is related to gamesas, and is more likely a squatter trying to capitalize on it. That it's administered by an individual in Montana is suspect. I don't expect gamesas to purchase a separate domain for ES:V and will either just use elderscrolls.com or a subdomain of it.

me thinks they were, if i were Bethesda I'd want to give New Vegas as much spotlight as possible before dropping the bomb that is TES:V. I'm not saying they'd lose sales from announcing it, NV just wouldnt have as much attention on it.

I'm assuming that's from Oct 21st of last year rather than this year, when those rumours of a TES MMO spiraled and the media inaccurately reported that Bethesda had no plans of making another TES game. Pete Hines made that 'clarifying blog post'. Either that, or the website is waaaaay behind on their news.

Agreed. Bethesda will definitely want to make this week all about New Vegas. I'm so impressed with them as a Publisher. Earl's Court, the venue for the London Eurogame Expo, was draqed with Fallout New Vegas banners so that it was the first thing you saw, even from the bottom of the road. And now, the entire front page of the Steam store is dominated by New Vegas. Usually it's shared by several new titles sliding across the screen, but not this week. You have to scroll right down the screen just to escape the beast. Very impressive marketing efforts.

Meh, it's good some people actually read the BethBlog before writing on their own that "zomg tes5 mmo!" But we all know it. Nice to see the rest of the internet is also excited, though.

right but how many gamers know the difference?

People remember logos sooner than names. They see a different logo next to the logo of the guys who made the original Fallout games, so that must be a publisher.

If BGS waits for a month or two (or more) to announce TESV, I would definitely take that as a good sign. The optimist in me thinks that TESV is so groundbreaking that announcing it anywhere near New Vegas would completely overshadow it.

Not so fast, what makes you think that they would give any information when they announce it ?
Guys, that's something you have a tendancy to overlook, when they will announce it they most probably wont give any information.
I'm sure that an announcement on the frontpage of their website with nothing on it besides "We announce ES5" would have no influence what so ever on the popularity of NV, concidering that their biggest sales come from ignorant children who just happened to see an advertisment and that don't even know what BGS is.

So, guys don't be so upsurd about this "overshadow" stuff .

1: upsurd isn't a real word.
2. Absurd doesn't mean anything rational in that context.
3. The only information we want is the title, province, and confirmation of existence, three things inherent in an announcement. Therefore your argument doesn't hold any more water than an old canoe that I put a hole in.

I do believe that Beth did the QA for the game, not obsidian:)

So...

QUALITY ASSURANCE
Testers
Ashley "Childlike Cat Empress of Chocolate Mushrooms" Betters
Casey Kwock
Anthony "Darth Anthrax" Rogers

...these people are Bethesda employees? I didn't think so, but what do I know...

Because that's what they've done with their past three major titles.

They'e also just clarified that when they announce their next big project they want to show a lot of it.

Bethesda has always been like that.

Actually they specifically said when they announce the new game, they want to show a lot.
BTW according to game informer on twitter, bethesda wants the fallout MMO thing back or something, minor information i know.

I would imagine we will not hear anything on a TES V until after the Christmas period as to not take the emphasis off FNV coming up to the holiday season - but here is hoping!

I think we can hear an announcement anytime. If it is announced before Christmas, it WILL NOT affect Christmas sales. Parents shopping for their kids (or any form of shopping for anyone), will need to get them present(s). They won't wait and not buy a present for this Christmas so they can get ESV in a year, if they even somehow hear word of the latest Bethesda announcement.

So the majority of people who purchase NV are ignorant children? Most of my friends who bought it are not either.
Although I do agree with you, people are being a tad "upsurd" about thinking that the announcement TES:V will lower the money brought it by NV

We're just trying to justify Bethesda being cruel enough to not announce it this year. Justifications, justifications. I think the Elder Scrolls fans are very bored, myself included.
