Official TES V Speculation Thread #72

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:28 am

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1112872-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-177/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. Any claims to having insider information will be removed. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

Note that Bethesda Game Studios is NOT working on Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, Brink, or Hunted: The Demon's Forge -- Nor do they develop MMOs.

they'll steal E3 with Doom 4 and TES V, oh and Rage. I smell it, that makes perfect sense. Esp if they want to position them selves up against EA and Activision as a serious main stream publisher.

Couldn't agree more. An announcement sometime between now and the next E3, probably around Christmas. The only annoying thing is... we were relying on that exact word-for-word announcement speculation this time last year.

"Don't worry guys, it'll be announced in time for E3 2010."

"Okay, well it will definitely be announced in time for QuakeCon 2010. The trademark says so."

And now, it's definitely going to be a Christmas holiday period announcement. My head hurts. But if it comes to pass, they really will steal the show at E3.

In my opinion the fact that Fallout: New Vegas was released rather prematurely while it could definitely benefit from a couple of months of polish and quality assurance is a good indication that Bethesda probably have big plans for this holiday season.

this game when it does come out needs to come out
WITHOUT the issues of fallout nv
which was not ready to be released
what a mess...

so i predict 2012 now
because if new vegas is leaving a bad taste in people mouths they may hesitate on buying a bethesda game in the future
does NOT matter that obsidian made new vegas , bethesda's name is on it

bethesda
try a new engine
see what rockstar uses with red dead redemption
red dead great game no glitches, at least it was ready when it released

BGS does a much better job at QA than Obsidian. You are assuming here that BGS will need more time to QA because Obsidian should have spent more time doing QA... that is comparing apples to oranges. When the next BGS game comes out it will be at the quality we have come to expect from them. Softworks published Rogue Warrior and WET remember... they svcked donkey balls. I don't think that will delay TESV any further either...

I do believe that Beth did the QA for the game, not obsidian:)

I think it is safe to assume we will hear about ES:V sooner then later, I mean what have the main team been working on since Fallout 3 shipped? I just genuinely hope we see a game more like Marrowind and daggerfall, and less like oblivion. Which region the game is based in matter less to me then the gameplay. And a new engine. I think we all hope to see a in house engine built from the group up so that the bugs that we have been fighting since oblivion will go away at last.

ouch. while we here at these forums. and maybe some other rpgers KNOW, that BGS had nothing to do with new vegas(other than lending the old version of their engine, and publishing it). the fact that its a Fallout title, and beths name is on the box. will have an effect on the sales of their upcoming games.(probly minimal though) its actually quite suprising, to me, the amount of people that dont know the difference between developing, and publishing. i know tons of kids(when i say kids i mean people younger than me. im 26 so thats a large age range) that will say "omg new vegas was terrible, and didnt look any better than fallout 3, why would i even bother with tesv? its made by the same people".
i havent even tried new vegas. but if its terrible as the obove posters say. tesv may lose a percent of sales. either way it wont lose mine. and i know there are alot more like me, than like the "kids" i mentioned. now this portion of sales lost, wont have a notable impact. but maybe just for hahas, WHEN tesv is announced, BGS should make it more apparent for the ones that dont read between the lines, that they did not make new vegas. course if you cant read between the lines, you probly dont play tes games anyway. bah im not even sure if this makes sense anymore...to much coffee this morn.

This is getting a bit off-topic, but New Vegas is in no way horrible. It's bugs are mostly to blame on the engine. The writing, gameplay, and pretty much just the feel of the game blow fallout 3 away. It has it's bugs, but it is in no way a bad game.

But you are right in saying that modern gamers are fickle. Which is why I think beth should stop pandering to them, please their core fans with a great TES:V and it will go more, and do more for them in the long run then trying to please the fickle modern gamer who has the attention span of a fruit fly.

lmao....great wording! I speculate that when tesv is released i will play it, at my gf's families game store. and people will be like "woah! what game is this? it looks awsome." much the same way they do now when im playing IV. so maybe when they finally reveal it, sometime in the next 2 months, i will have to play trailers, and videos for it all day. and people will be like "woah!" and ill be like "yeah, it comes out in the fall of 2011. you should ask for it for christmas. its gonna be the best game of all time".

You're trying to impart knowledge to Bethesda? And at the same time claiming that Red Dead Redemption didn't have any issues at release? At least http://kotaku.com/5542914/invisibility-bugs-vexing-some-red-dead-redemption-players next time you want to post an utterly ridiculous comment please.

i know tons of kids(when i say kids i mean people younger than me. im 26 so thats a large age range) that will say "omg new vegas was terrible, and didnt look any better than fallout 3, why would i even bother with tesv? its made by the same people".

All games start off with bugs and glitches these days. It's shameful, but the majority of developers seem to rely on their players for the final QA polishing, and then release patches over the first few weeks to correct the problems. It won't be long before the bugs in New Vegas (as numerous as they are) are fixed. The game will be remembered for its http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/fallout-new-vegas rather than the bugs that plagued its first couple of weeks, and if the fact that TES:V is being published by the same company as New Vegas affects sales at all, it will be a positive effect.

But you are right in saying that modern gamers are fickle.

Which is why a few screenshots of Skyrim taken from Bethesda's new engine will cause them to drop all complaints about Beth's dependence on an old engine. We've got nothing to worry about here. New Vegas is being heralded as a great game and worthy sequel to Fallout 3 / precursor to Fallout 4. Any effect on TES:V from this will be positive, but I doubt gamers will look to New Vegas as an indication of its expected quality. Certainly not the sensible ones.

Ya know, I think TESV is going to look exactly like FO3, and I wont be suprised at all if it has just as many or more bugs than FO has. Theyre just kicking at a dead horse. And Gamebryo is that dead horse.

This thread has remained peaceful for a while, Bethesda has already said that they spent 2 freaking years rebuilding the engine from scratch. Trust me, when they say rebuild it's a complete redo of the original source code. In other words the tech will resemble very little to it's former.

I realy doubt that. I've heard things like that being promiced by all sorts of game companies and the new games were exactly the same as their predecessors only a couple of things had changed (for the worser) and the games ended up having more bugs. I cant think of any right now (its 4AM). But New does not mean Better.

Epic completely overhyped UT3 and claimed they were taking the game back to its roots. But instead they took out all the things people loved about the UT series and the game fell flat on its face. On the plus side they made a realy good looking game engine.

So when a game company makes a big claim like that, theyre usually lying thier socks off to get more sales.

For TESV Im expecting to see strange things happeing with the physics, low textures made for the 360, a UI made for consoles, NPCs, the player, and objects falling through the floor, No weather inside cause the game world would still be limited to cells, and no world shadows.

the fact that its a Fallout title, and beths name is on the box.

Correction, their logo is on the box. Which is different from the dev team's logo. You've got the red-white bethesda logo and the silver-with-cog logo. If you're worried people will not buy it due to one of the brands, this is not the issue.

You're underestimating the versatility of engines. Not only has Bethesda been revamping Gamebryo, engines can be applied to games in different ways for a different look, even for a different kind of game. The W3D engine, for example, was used for both http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/13/EmperorScreenshot.jpg and http://www.freewebs.com/glf_gecko/renegade.jpg.

VeryEvil is speaking the truth. Bethesda have been using the same Gamebryo engine since Morrowind I believe, revamped it for Oblivion, tweaked it for Fallout 3, and have now revamped it again for their 'unannounced title'. You can expect huge changes to both graphics and AI.

And worser? Really?

Absurd comment. They spent all of 2009 upgrading the engine, and words from todd howard himself saying how good it looks.

I've been watching Lets Play Morrowind, and when I compare it to Oblivion I dont see alot of difference. Only that Oblivion has higher detail models and textures, in fact Morrowind looks much better. morrowind has a fully open world with no cells for cities, and better modability. A modded Morrowind looks a hell of alot better than Oblivion ever was.

Elder Scrolls games have -ALWAYS- been built from the ground up. They've stated it in interviews, and it obviously shows in their products. Bugs are always going to exist, especially on a freshly built base of code. You can't truthfully expect an open world game with robust AI and non-linear gameplay to have all the bugs ironed out without exceeding a 8 year development cycle.

Epic hyped UT3 (what company wouldn't want to hype one of their products?) but the argument you're giving about Bethesda making a new engine from the start and UT3 being a good game are two complete different comparisons. UT3 was made on their newer engine which is akin to Bethesda. Was it a good game? No, but that's not a fault of the engine.

Physics engine has to do with whatever physics engine they incorporate. Last game was Havok. If you don't think they haven't worked out world shadows and many other things in these years to come with a new engine and more powerful hardware to work with as opposed to Oblivion, you've really gone into full blown pessimistic about this game. Will it likely be showing some signs of console wear and tear? Likely. Is it to say it's going to be visually equal to Oblivion and the same optimization? Hell no.

EDIT: Did you seriously compare a game watched on a [censored] low res Youtube feed akin to playing the game on your own accord? GTFO. For all you know he could even be using the Morrowind Graphics Extender.

Your seriously telling me you have know knowledge about game and game companies in general. " No weather inside cause the game world would still be limited to cells"

First of all, I thought that the UI for oblivion although simplified wasn't horrible and the bugs were minimal if sometimes still there.

GixG17 doesnt use any mods at all in his Morrowind Lets Play, or his Oblivion Lets Play, or his Daggerfall Lets Play series. He plays them as they come out of the box.

Where as a modded Morrowind can look like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN0vYp9nabQ&feature=related

That's still begging the question of comparing a game you WATCHED on a low res stream compared to playing it full resolution on your monitor with your own two hands.

EDIT: You're probably right EvilDude. I should stop feeding the troll.

Correction, their logo is on the box. Which is different from the dev team's logo. You've got the red-white bethesda logo and the silver-with-cog logo. If you're worried people will not buy it due to one of the brands, this is not the issue.

right but how many gamers know the difference? and im certainly not worried. like i said im gonna buy it no matter what anyone says. i expect a huge improvement from what we saw in the past 2 BGS developed games.(OB, FO3) i just wanted to point out that new vegas will have an impact on what a lot of gamers(expecially the younger ones), will expect from TESV, and thus reflect sales. whether it be positive or negative. because of the fact that they see "bethesda" on the box. so when they tell us about the game on my birthday, nov. 9, and show us some screens. we should all go about to others forums on the web and just reasure the masses that what they are seeing is real :)
