Official TES V Speculation Thread #84

Post » Thu Jun 17, 2010 9:43 am

An announcement has got to be coming soon...

etc...etc

Well I wasn't GOING to get my hopes up, and this could speculatively be a very big play on words, but since I'm still alive and not dead yet, I'll allow my expectancy hopes for an announcment soon to rise slightly...but just slightly

The literal "begging" correlation is a bit of a stretch but, regardless, I think we've got more evidence of an imminent announcement now than we've had in a while. Although, I do think that, being who he his, Pete Hines would've been better served not replying to the tweet about the "next cover" speculation. It seems odd to me that he did. Plus, the fact that he didn't deny TESV in his reply is a big red flag as well. Maybe they're just not worried about stirring up unwarranted speculation because, well, it's not unwarranted anymore.

Bethesda doesn't comment on speculation or rumor. So whether it's true or not, the fact he didn't comment is not, to me, a 'big red flag.' The rest of you post I think has a point. To me it's a 51% chance the cover will be TES V.

Also, I'm sure rumor used to be spelt rumour. Weird.

Edit: That was to Confused Cartman if anyone was wondering.

And I just realised it is spelt rumour here. Also realized = realised. And "spelt" is a perfectly acceptable version of "spelled". So fun.

Still nothing, [Censored]. I'm out guys I'll be back whenever theres an announcement/release. Waste of time coming here everyday to speculate on what Todd Howard ate last night.

EDIT: What a weird word to be censored. Apparently you can't say goddayum.

To be honest guys, the fact that Pete Hines said that the speculation on TES:V being the next GI cover could 'go on for some time' is quite ominous to me.

If TES:V was the Feb cover then he wouldn't have said anything because he knows that it's just around the corner. As it is, he's essentially saying 'don't get your hopes up'.

Unless he's being a meanie and just playing with us, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Maybe he is an artifice.

He is in marketing, after all.

Careful there Tausig. You're standing dangerously close to the precipice of the pit that is guessing Bethesda's marketing ploys.

You don't want to know how deep that rabbit hole goes.

An announcement has got to be coming soon...

Andy McNamara(Aug 5th): "And for the people that keep begging for the next Elder Scrolls....trust me, we want it too. Patience."

Link: http://twitter.com/GI_AndyMc/status/20397485690

Andy McNamara(Nov 10th): "Got test samples for our Feb cover today & Jan is already in motion. Jan you won't see coming but you have been begging for Feb 4ever"

Link: http://twitter.com/GI_AndyMc/status/2446334590189568

As has already been pointed out, arguing from a correlation of words (between two posts that are months apart) is weak, and unconvincing.

Pete Hines(Dec 1st): "I could tell you exactly what we're gonna announce, and when. I'm just not able to. Things will become clearer before too long."

Link: http://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/10011902629388288

Me(Dec 2nd): "I think things will become clear in early January when the February cover of GI is revealed and Elder Scrolls V is on the cover..."

Link: http://twitter.com/TheNannersaur/status/10571277450354689

Pete Hines(Dec 3rd): "We've been guessed as the "next cover" for GI for about a year now. So I imagine that's going to continue for a while."

Link: http://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/10713596157763584

Me(Dec 3rd): "It will continue until February... Andy McNamara tweeted that the Feb cover is one that people have been begging for forever."

Link: http://twitter.com/TheNannersaur/status/10919384025399296

I assume that this is a back-forth-discussion between you and Pete. Otherwise, it almost appears as though you are submitting your own quotes as supporting evidence.

Notice how McNamara used the word "begging" in both his tweets. Also, based on my active involvement in GI Online, I can tell you that no game is more anticipated over there than TES V. Whenever GI Online runs a story about Bethesda or the Elder Scrolls, there are always hundreds of comments from people asking about, and for, the Elder Scrolls V. Just read the following links: http://www.gameinformer.com:80/b/news/archive/2010/11/23/elder-scrolls-v-is-in-the-works.aspx , http://www.gameinformer.com:80/b/news/archive/2010/10/16/is-bethesda-s-next-game-an-elder-scrolls-mmo.aspx , http://www.gameinformer.com:80/b/news/archive/2010/11/08/elder-scrolls-song-speaks-to-us-all.aspx

Of course people would people talk about TES:V when an article about the next Elder Scrolls comes out. What else would they discuss, fluffy white kittens and Santa Claus?

Also, notice how Pete Hines didn't deny that the Elder Scrolls was their next game... I think things are starting to fit nicely into place. I'm hopeful the VGAs will bring good news, but I'm almost positive we are all going to really enjoy GI's February issue...

A lack of denial is not confirmation. Only when a rumor is potentially damaging do the fanbase have I seen Pete step in with a qualifying comment, and even in those cases his statements have been far removed from a confirmation. Also, prior to Oblivion's announcement, TES:IV was patently denied by the developers.

I do, however, believe we're close; January-February seems like a stronger possibility than usual, but I would downplay the significance of the evidence here cited.

Of course Pete's going to deny it he has too. Bethesda doesn't want people to know when the announcement is because if they did find out when the announcement is then we can 100 % confirmed that they are working on TESV.

I don't think it is. Anything but saying that or not commenting would give too much of a hint. He couldn't say "That speculation will probably go on for only a little while longer." His actual quote was probably him lying about it, because to me a February cover reveal is pretty promising.

I've read an article about Bethesda and E3 or Quake con I think about a certain game (or not, can't remember well) and ALL the comments for 20-30 was solely about asking for TES V, then a couple not about it were inserted around, the almost everyone only asked about TES V. In fact, go on any forum or video game news site and almost each time there's something about Bethesda people ask for TES V. Hell, Kotaku make some posts dedicated to TES V.

It's not just articles about the Elder Scrolls. It's articles about Bethesda in general. Like when Bethesda acquired Arcane Studios, there were more comments about Elder Scrolls V than there were about Arcane Studios. Also look at every single cover reveal that isn't Elder Scrolls V. There's always like four or five disappointed people asking where the heck Elder Scrolls V is. You don't see that with any other game... My point here is that more people are "begging" for Elder Scrolls V than any other game. February is going to be Elder Scrolls V. MARK MY WORDS...

That is somewhat more comforting to know. I do not spend much time on these other sites so I don't have a good survey of general interest.

MARK MY WORDS...

Don't say that. If I mark your words, and it ends up being false, I will find you. :obliviongate:

It looks like it's obvious. It truly does. But remember what happened when McNamara said that "fantasy fans will crap themselves"?

But honestly, looking back on it now, that could cover a lot of ground. We were just swept away by the hype train and didn't think very logically.

Februay=Cold....
Elder Scrolls V=Skyrim
Winter announcement obviously fits from a marketing standpoint.

Thinking back to DA 2 GI cover, summer seems awful for announcement!
Wintertime people are suffering cabin fever and chillin indoors with nothing to do outside so they are on their pcs and hyping during that time seems most logical.

Probably not much to this post, but a thought.

I guess new years day.
1-1-11....kinda hard to have that happen again for 100 years.....I must b going mad:/

Heh, announcement on January 11th, 2011... and release November 11, 2011.

That would be the funniest thing ever.

We thought it probably wouldn't be Dragon Age 2 because the first one was released not long ago at that point. Anyway, game's been in full production for a little over 2 years now. I bet there's a lot of cool new stuff to show.

That truly would be epic. Plus it would mean it is only 10 months away from annoncement. Now for my real post, but still pointless. Dear Stain, in my life fluffy white kittens, and well yes Santa Claus to, is brought up way more then TESV. So don't figure they weren't mentioned.

I'm sorry to say this, but anyone who thinks that the Feb GI cover is anything other than Duke FORever has the same IQ rating as a glass of water.

When TES:V is announced it will be on the official site first then followed by a press release. It's looking like March '11 will be the earliest we hear anything.

Haha...5 1s= 5......Wow man, has the speculation thread come to this? Yes it has.

I said 1-01-11 because that would be app a week before the Feb. GI cover announcement. Correct me if I am wrong? Probably Am.

But 1-11-11 would be epic.

Geoff Keighley has just put this on his twitter: "How far into the future are the VGAs going? I just reviewed a piece that says "coming 2013" at the end." How would everyone feel if that was ESV?

2013= PUKE

Really doubtful though. 2012 at the very latest for BGS next Big Game. that would be 4 years since FO3.
