Official TES V Speculation Thread #84

Post » Thu Jun 17, 2010 9:10 am

Hahaha, I think this thread is slowing down because we honestly don't have to go off of right now.

Well, because really at this point we can wait for what most of us consider to be a reasonable day. It's easier to speculate the less you have, and since we have the hope that it may be February, all speculation will recycle to that until it is proved wither true or false. Then the fun starts back up.

Be patient while I do a mop up in Isle 11.

Flaming results in warnings and suspension time. I best not have to come back and edit this thread again anytime soon.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned but I've just watched the latest episode of SentUamessage on Xbox live and they said that someone from Bethesda has confirmed that TES V is currently in developement. How true this is I don't know but it is a running joke on the show about the number of questions they get for the game. So for them to mention it is promising.

If true, I predict two possible release dates Oct/Nov 2012 or Feb/Mar 2013.

Wait a minute, you actually called the trademark office? That's dedication. I can't think of anything I've ever anticipated that I'd go past Google or a friend of a friend to get info about.

+1 Internets to you

Thanks :spotted owl:

Sylt called them multiple times as well. I may have called more than once but the one time I did call effectively stopped speculation on the trademarks. :sadvaultboy:

Antibody, Stain and SyltStrider went out of their way for the thread many times, they are one of the biggest driving forces in this thread and have been so for quite some time now. This post is an honorary salute to all the hard-work you guys put into this thread

Thanks as well :spotted owl:

I doubt it - I haven't watched it, but it sounds like they're either talking about the Eurogamer thing or just messing with you.

Why would they announce it there anyway?

Might they do that once more? Through all of the times that Bethesda Softworks has announced through GI they have been relitivily small. I find it likley that with Zenimax growing and Bethesda publishing more than just BGS games that they might change their strategy to something more open to the common gamer. Not just the guys that love games so much that they subscribe to all of the magazines.

In other words, they might have held a press conference one year to get more attention than just a GI cover. This year they could decide to announce the game at the VGA's as they will get more press there than at any press conference they could hold without the press already knowing about the game so they want to see more.

Not sure if that made perfect sense.

Well, when they announced New Vegas at that press conference, that was back in April 2009. They didn't have anything to actually show us of New Vegas until February 2010. So that makes me think that the only reason they announced it at a press conference was that it was the only way they could do it. They couldn't give Game Informer a preview or post a trailer on their website.

That said, it is definitely a possibility, and it's likely they may do it too. Bethesda is a big enough name that them holding a press conference would result in every press outlet they invite sending someone. Just like how the press conference where Bioshock Infinite was announced was so big. Of course, Bethesda putting a trailer or countdown on their site would attract plenty of attention as well.

Also, Duke Nukem has been announced. Like over a decade ago. So it's unlikely that they'd do that.

Interesting thought. I don't have the tweet in front of me, but, from what I recall, it wasn't specific about whether the cover was of a game already announced, or yet to be announced. (But maybe I'm missing something here - are GI covers typically of games yet to be announced?)

It wasn't announced there, they just mentioned the rumour and did say it had been mentioned on some websites. I'm not saying the rumour is correct. Personally I've felt for sometime that the game is in developement but that's just a hunch and not based on any hard evidence, as there is none and as mentioned in my earlier post I don't think the game will be out anytime soon, my prediction is late 2012 or early 2013.

Yeah, definitely the Eurogamer thing, then.

And we've already discussed that to death, and then resurrected it, and then been arrested by the Mages Guild...

Duke Nukem was fairly recently picked up by Gearbox. If it had a Game Informer cover, it would be one of the first real previews of the game since it was picked up. Obviously that would be fairly appealing to Game Informer. But the attractiveness of a preview isn't of debate here, what is is whether or not the use of "forever" or rather "4ever" in the tweet was a hint that the game was Duke Nukem Forever or a game that was 4th in a series. As I've said before, I don't buy that theory. I really doubt McNamara puts that much thought into his tweets.

As for whether or not most covers are of previously announced games or newly announced games, well, most of the time it's of a newly announced game, but there are quite a few instances of games that were announced way before their Game Informer cover. You can view the cover archive http://www.gameinformer.com/mag/covers.aspx.

No, not... really. There have been demos and videos already for DNF, it's quite far into the announcement.

And I'm not sure people would be 'begging' for that cover, if the game's already been set up. I'm not buying that it's DNF in February, but seeing as the first preview for the cover is in a couple of weeks, I wouldn't say it's TES either, as they'll probably announce it themselves (possibly with a countdown) before the preview.

Honestly, with Valve's three surprises, I would put my money on Episode 3 before either of them.

I have to agree with you here. I haven't seen a McNamara tweet that had any hidden message in it... and especially if someone is gonna tweet about fantasy fans soiling their pants, I doubt that same person will construct a "secret message" out of 160 characters for us to figure out... If anyone can provide me a tweet from McNamara that contained a hidden message and the event/cover/game that came of it after, please do so, but from all I can tell, he is just making people excited in general ways and increasing sales of the magazine by feeding off the desires of gamers to see their most anticipated games grace the cover... much like we are.

The DNF Gearbox has and the DNF that existed before they picked it up are two different beasts. They're technically the same game, but Gearbox has polished it immensely. A full preview of Gearbox's DNF has not happened yet, and really, any preview or video of it before Gearbox picked it up doesn't really count anymore.

The January cover is out of the question, but the February cover, that will be shown in early January, is perfectly reasonable. Surely you don't think they need an entire month before the cover reveal to announce it?

Wait, I thought the previews for the covers were released 2 months before the actual thing? Isn't that what happened with the 'Survivor' cover?

And this is a preview of DNF post-Gearbox - took me ages to find:

There is almost never a preview for the next month's cover in the previous month's issue. The "survivor" preview was not the norm.

That is a preview of the first level which people have been previewing since Gearbox first announced they had picked it up. It is not a preview of the full game, only a very small part of the game. A 5-10 page Game Informer preview is very different.

Oh God, Episode 3. We think we have it bad when it comes to waiting for a game announcement. People have been begging for HL2:Episode 3 longer than anything.

I guess I never thought of that. To be honest, I'm not putting any faith into TESV being on the February cover. As I said before, I don't want to get too optimistic. If it does end up on the cover, fantastic. If it's not, then at least I won't be disappointed.

Awww...thanks! :foodndrink:

As for the February GI cover, I'm remaining cautious on this one. It sure looks promising, but the moments before the DA2 cover looked even more promising. We shall soon see.

EDIT: I would also submit Mr. Tissuebox and ThatOneGuy as honorary veterens. To even be considered among their ranks is honor enough.

I agree... as nice as it is to be recognized, I think there are a slew of people on here who have helped keep this place viable... I think maybe we have been a bit more vocal than others, but I have seen some singular posts, really well thought out things from some pretty bright people on here (certainly including Mr. Tissuebox there, and Mikedzines too).

And for those who think that this place serves no purpose, I will say this much, I have had a lot of fun (granted my definition of fun might be a bit askew) in the "game" of speculation. I am not really emotionally invested, so the ebb and flow of excitement and let downs from the ultimate guessing game only serves to fuel the elusive goal. Once TESV is actually announced, I think I'll be a little sad that the game is over... kind of like when the credits roll after the final boss battle. Though the difference here being that I have a much better understanding of trademarks, marketing, and the history of video games than I ever thought I would even need... haha.

-snip-

When this speculation ends, though, a new, more vicious speculation will begin...the actual plot, design, and content of the game.

I like the Speculation Thread because we all can get along, for the most part. When ESV gets announced, there will be a large, vocal group of people calling for the boycott of Bethesda and its games because a certain thing is missing, and so on. At least when the game is announced, we can all happily say that we were here from the beginning.
