Official TES V Speculation Thread #85

Post » Mon Jul 19, 2010 8:32 pm

Will there be TES 5 next year?

Maybe. The tiniest snippets of rumours that we have picked up suggest that the game is in development, but there has been no official word on it. At all. Any and all rumours so far have been unofficial and sketchy at best.

So yeah, TES:V is in development from what we can tell, but we don't know how far along it is. As for a rough release date, most people are hoping next year based on Todd Howard's statements that he would be ready to show off what they're working on if he had to and Pete Hines' statement that they have an announcement date set in stone for what they are working on. But we don't know nearly enough to pin down a precise date.

This is where I don't get it, how can anyone even be sure it accually is TES 5 Todd talking about, yet alone that it is Todd talking...

Well it's Todd in interviews and on his Twitter... and the same with Pete Hines - everything we have gathered from them has been from interviews or Twitter updates.

As for how we know that the new game is TES:V... we feel it in our bones.

Really though, we can't be certain. It's a reasonable guess though given the time since Bethesda Game Studios' last game and given that that was Fallout. Since Obsidian was given the task of continuing the Fallout franchise with New Vegas it would make sense for BGS to be working on TES:V in tandem with that to spread the franchise potential.

But you're right. We can't be certain.

It has to be TES V all the pieces fit but its only a guess just think if we had 1 leaked pic then it would be certian.

There is a Dutch gamesite called GameKings that says there will be next week an announcement of an RPG game where alot of people are waiting for and that it will create a hype as big as GTA or Gran Turismo... They cant say more untill next week about it... It could also be that new game from Bioware but that must be Mass Effect 3 or else there couldnt be people waiting for it...

Sorry for this terrible english, :whistling:

I saw the video where they made this statement.
They also said that one of their editors is going to the developers studio very soon...
Does Bethesda host any press trips in the coming month?

I'm growing extremely impatient. When is the next unannounced GameInformer cover page to be announced?

Right now. It's on their site. Another Lara Croft game.

Edit: Were you talking about the February one?

Considering I'm about 2.5 hours away from their offices, I suppose I could go scope the place out one day :whistling:

The last tweet from Pete Hines might be a red herring. I desperately hope so.

Sounds more like Bioware; they are more open to reporters when it comes to their upcoming games.

Considering we are about to see ME3/an ME spin-off, that's probably what they are talking about. However, it could even be some obscure German RPG being produced.

If that happened these forums would explode. As in literally force would be pushed outward in all directions due to compression. Binary code can't handle that much rage.

Which tweet? If you're talking about the MMO one, he meant the one he's doing with Z:O.

Isn't this thread supposed to explode with wild, unfounded speculation after the forums UI change?

Well, the last time there was a major forum update, it was when they added all the games that they are publishing. (RAGE, DOOM, Cthulu, etc.) I wouldn't be surprised if they updated now to test the forums before the inevitable user population explosion when TESV is announced.

I would be supremely pissed off if Bethesdsa says they have a big announcement for the VGAs, but it turns out to be a game developed by another company.

New forum skin!
It looks nice!

I hope that TES:V is announced soon, and I am pretty positive that it won't be long. Then again, I can't be too sure.
Why must they torture us?

I'm going to open an Oblivion gate right in the middle of Pete Hines' office. :obliviongate:
THEN HE WILL BE FORCED TO ANNOUNCE IT.

Its seems like an episode from one of those cliche good cop bad cop shows!! we got the good cop Todd prettty much sayin he's ready to show it!!! then the bad cop Pete Hines sayin "dont expect anything any time soon muhahahahahahaha" [Joke]

heres my speculation in 4 stages

1. VGA - Announcement whilst picking up award for NV
2. Gameinformers booked for Feb - Forums updated for meltdown
3. Announcement via Website with concept art.
4. Feb Gameinformer feature

New forum layout is quite interesting, I don't know if it could be to an possible announcement... It would be nice though :D
Now that January GI cover is out we can wait until the issue is out so we can check whether or not there is a sneak peek to February issue just like that "A Survivor Is Born" thing.

This website claiming a big RPG announcement next week is likely to be whatever Bioware is up to, Sunday is when the next week starts and that's the same day for VGA. So I wouldn't get my hopes up. A VGA surprise announcement would definately be cool, but I don't think fits with Bethesda. A january/february announcement seems like the best thought at the moment, but Pete's tweet about GI worries me, it can mean a lot of different things.

All we can do... is wait :(

I'm trying to not get my hopes up for the February GI cover because Pete Hines said "People have been guessing us for the next GI cover for about a year now. I have a feeling it'll go on like that for quite some time" (paraphrased).

If it was gonna be revealed as the next cover next month, I don't think he would have added the "it'll go on for quite some time" part.

This might not matter so much, in light of Pete's other claim that Bethesda have fixed an announcement date. The lesson of Pete's tweets, I take it, is that TES V being announced soon is consistent with TES V not appearing on a GI cover for a while.

Perhaps I am reading too much into Pete's tweet, and perhaps this is just wishful thinking, but the more I think about it, the more it seems that Pete's tweet is the best evidence we've yet had that an announcement is not too far off - the question of what is the Feb GI cover is neither here nor there, with respect to an announcement, it seems to me.

The more interesting question, I think, is what to make of the claim that Bethesda have fixed an announcement date. I'm inclined to think that this means that an announcement is just around the corner. But maybe I'm wrong about that - if so, I'd like to know why I'd be wrong to think that. (Here's one suggestion. Bethesda fixed an announcement date because it was, as it were, easy to fix that date: they wanted to announce at a certain event, so they just picked the date on which that event fell. But that event might be many months away).

Same here, why would they fix a date and tell us that it's set if it is months away. It's just stupid...
Pete said things will become clear before too long, so are we right when we say that an announcement is very close?

Ugh, this wait is consuming me!
