Post » Fri Jul 23, 2010 6:14 am

WMROPGVENVOS is an anagram of the acronym

Elder Scrolls V Multiplayer Online RPG = Nordic World of Warcraft

edit aahh theres no 2nd W. That's probably a good thing anyway :)

Just saw the article thanks to VeryEvilDudeofDarkness.

To be perfectly honest, I am extremely excited now. The article is just feels so very random. The entire article is just a small number of quotes from developers about the previous games. Arena had 1 quote, Daggerfall had 2 quotes, Morrowind had 1 quote, Oblivion had 3 quotes and Shivering Isles had 1 quote. And aside from the short introduction to the article that VEDOD already posted, there's nothing else there. There isn't even anything talking about the actual games, so anyone seeing these quotes who doesn't already know about this series will leave knowing no more about the series than they did before reading it. It basically feels like it's there for the sole purpose of attracting the attention of TES fans. It's also very short, and it's actually only 2 pages long, with the quotes in large font to fill up space. It just left me asking myself "Why is this article even here?" My personal opinion is that TES V will most likely be the next cover and this is a seemingly obvious hint. I want to remain skeptical, but damn, after seeing this article I can't help but feel excited.

Yeah, for some reason I'm more excited about this than I was when I read about that rumor of Eurogamer Denmark eavesdropping in on the Bethesda employees on that flight back in November.

I'm like you; why is that article there? On the last pages of the previous GI had that Tomb Raider teaser saying "a survivor is born," and now it's the cover of the next one. Now, I haven't been subscribed to GI for very long, < 1 year actually. Is this how GI usually teases their next issue?

They almost never include teasers of their next issue in the issue before it. The Tomb Raider one was a special case. Technically they didn't include a preview in this issue either, though like I said, this article sure feels like a hint.

This all does feel very exciting. Some kind of announcement this month (VGA or not) followed by a world exclusive preview in GameInformer sounds good to me. They do have a lot to show after all.
I wish I could read that article. I'm always interested in what devs have to say.

The first line obviously sticks out from the others. There are no obvious words in the other messages, and it doesn't get better by any http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesar_cipher or any other text-encrypting method that isn't too complicated for the readers to figure out (as far as I can tell).

Could it be that these lines don't actually contain a message, but are part of a URL or something like that?

In any case, I think we'd have to see all lines first before we can come to better conclusions ...

Could there be any other reason for this article? I remember an anniversary of some sort being mentioned on here - maybe it's to commemorate that? I don't have a copy, does it mention anything about anniversaries of some sort?

It mentions nothing. There is reason for it given. Besides the quotes, the only text is:

Wohooo My copy came in! It's true, and it says DECRYPTING THE ELDER SCROLLS A LOOK BACK AT THE STORY LINE AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE ROLE PLAYING JUGGERNAUT!!!

The Tale of the Elder Scrollsl began in recent years years for many fans, as they explored the massive nation of Cyrodill in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. However, that popular entry was only the latest chapter of a sprawling epic that began way back in 1994. As we wait to see what will come next for the vaunted Elder Scrolls series, we decided to look back at both the in-game and out-of-game stories that have shaped these incredible role-playing experiences. We asked longtime Bethesda developers to share their knowledge and memories.

-snip-

That's interesting...It does leave me scratching my head though.

Just to keep myself from possibly being disappointed in the future, there is a slight possibility that GI heard about the whole Eurogamer Denmark thing. Hearing this makes them know that TES still has a large fanbase, so they decided to make a small article for them. I can't really think of another reason, and it souds a little stupid, but I feel like I should be just a tiny bit skeptical.

It's possible, but if that was the case I don't know why they decided not to mention the rumor.

In the issue of GI it has letters that I think could be a code, sadly this isn't all of them but it's the first couple of lines with some letters missingfrom hard to read cahracters.

"Got test samples for our Feb cover today & Jan is already in motion. Jan you won't see coming but you have been begging for Feb 4ever"

4ever.... guys it will be duke nukem forever... common i understand hope but this is just stupid. No on game has had fans waiting on it longer then Duke Nukem especially the near mythic status that the next game Duke Nukem Forever has received and the wording clearly clearly shows this

If we are dissecting his tweet, I could just as equally assume that this game that's been begged for "4ever" is a play on Thief 4, or Thi4f...because it's been wanted for a long time by fans of that series, and it has a "4" in the name.

The fact of the matter is though, the OTHER evidence we know surrounding this tweet points that it cannot be Thief 4 as Eidos Montreal is currently busy with a badly delayed Deux Revolution. My point is, I think the surrounding evidence around this tweet strongly supports a TES V reveal moreso than the Nukem forever. However, there is a smaller possibility it could be nukem forever, it cannot be ruled out completely.

EDIT: Half-Life 2: Episode 3 also has an excellent chance (and one I would love to see), and its chances for being the next cover are better than nukem forever I think too.

Even though none of us have been able to decipher anything from all these random letters, shouldn't that fact that they're there in the first place be exciting enough? Something is obviously up now...

I haven't seen them yet, but I wonder, could they be set up in such a way that they have to be seen on the page to get anything? Like could they be diagonal or vertical codes or something?

The random letters are the background of the page, and the title of the article consists of some of those letters that are glowing so they stand out. The title is the only decipherable thing though. I have a feeling the letters in the background are truly just random and are only there to create the title's theme of being deciphered from random letters.

The only real "hint" about future TES games which really concerns me is that one at the end of the OB MQ, where it tells you that from now on, the future will no longer be predicted by the scolls, but will by determined by YOU. That could mean any of several things, from either a game lore perspective or as an in-game hint about what the devs are intending to do next. I don't recall the exact wording, but I clearly recall that I just about raised an eyebrow in puzzlement when I heard it, as something which was potentially even more significant than the ending of the MQ.

Yeah i definatly thought at the time it was a nod towards a future game. It's promising that there was an article in the january GI, but it's still not gaurenteed. There's still room for mass dissapointment. However i'm more optomistic this time round than the Dragon Age time, it just feels right now...

The exact wording was that when the next elder scroll is written, you will be it's scribe. But I don't see any need to be worrying about that. I'm sure Bethesda realizes that a game where you're a Blind Moth Priest would be rather boring.

Twitter update ya'll: A conversation between me and Andrew Reiner...

Me: Would you care to comment on the weird code thats included in the spread about the Elder Scrolls in Jans GI? Is it a hint?

AR: What's the code?

Me: I haven't gotten my issue yet, but people are saying there's some weird letters or code in the background...

AR: That's just art from the GI production team. It means nothing.

We're too used to dealing with Bethesda, whose every answer is "no comment." Otherwise this whole "it means nothing" answer would have been found sooner.

Maybe someone can send a message to either McNamara and try to get something out of him? Just ask him "So is the ES thing at the back of the issue a hint at the next cover like the "Survivor is Born" thing was?"

And if he replies with something vague, that's good.

haha those letters are interesting, in mathematics and computer science there are two hard and fast rule about encryptions and cyphers, one that any real cypher no matter how complicated can be broken by mathematical means because a cypher is just an algorithm, and two that given enough characters an algorithm can be found that will take those characters and make them say anything you want, thats why the stuff in the da vinci code works given enough text it can make anything. Ill see if i cant run those through one of our decrypt programs in Lab later today and see what it comes up with.

perhaps ill run 4ever through as well... haha

oh and its probably dragon age 4ever or something you know just to really kick us in the crotch again
