Official TES V Speculation Thread #86

Post » Fri Jul 23, 2010 9:58 am

haha those letters are interesting, in mathematics and computer science there are two hard and fast rule about encryptions and cyphers, one that any real cypher no matter how complicated can be broken by mathematical means because a cypher is just an algorithm, and two that given enough characters an algorithm can be found that will take those characters and make them say anything you want, thats why the stuff in the da vinci code works given enough text it can make anything. Ill see if i cant run those through one of our decrypt programs in Lab later today and see what it comes up with.

perhaps ill run 4ever through as well... haha

oh and its probably dragon age 4ever or something you know just to really kick us in the crotch again

HE SPEAKS TRUTH!

It's nice to see someone who can make fun of themselves...kudos

Twitter update ya'll: A conversation between me and Andrew Reiner...

Me: Would you care to comment on the weird code thats included in the spread about the Elder Scrolls in Jans GI? Is it a hint?

AR: What's the code?

Me: I haven't gotten my issue yet, but people are saying there's some weird letters or code in the background...

AR: That's just art from the GI production team. It means nothing.

I don't think we've ever said any cover was "100% certain." Even before the cover that turned out be Dragon Age 2 was revealed, plenty of people, including myself, said it was either Dragon Age 2 or TES V.

And I'm not sure they would write a seemingly random article just because of the biggest recent rumor from Eurogamer. They wouldn't have interviewed Bethesda developers for the article if they were doing something like that.

I think i remember mentioning this too...this time last year?! I cant remember, I think the DA2 twitter episode was kind of obvious.. I hope deep down we are now weeks away from an announcement via the beth website... I do partly remember this time last year we hoped for an announcement and got nothing due to DA2 what was it "RPG fans are gonna.." eh?! anyway boring cheap imitations aside, Still sticking with DEC announcement, :celebration:

The GI cover reveal would happen sometime around the Jan 5-12, am I correct?
The consensus is that prior to the Mag reveal, Bethesda will announce via their website with previous releases being precedent.
With Oblivion there was actually a countdown timer.
Well....isn't a popular tradition to countdown to the New Year? And is New Years Day not only a few days to a week before the GI cover reveal?
What I am getting at is...does anbody think that TESV could be announced on New Years Day?

Just a random thought.

I think if they had a countdown timer everyone would know what it was way beforehand, so why bother? Just drop it like a bomb.

Completely agree, but then again we knew what was happening last time too.

Completely agree, but then again we knew what was happening last time too.

But ES:IV was an anticipated game.

ES:V is perhaps the most rabidly anticipated game of the RPG genre ever, and a large part of that is made up of less hardcoe fans who only became acquainted with TES because of Oblivion.

A countdown for us here would be a godsend. For them it would just water down the news that it is coming. If Bethesda wants to draw as many of those more casual gamers in as possible then they have to adopt the Blitzkrieg of marketing tactics. They certainly have the bomb for it.

Not that I know anything about marketing...

I asked Andy McNamara on Twitter if the game on the next cover includes shooting guns or not. I hope he can answer that.

Even if he says yes, we can't rule out the possibility of extremely primitive guns appearing in ES:V given the 200 year time gap

I doubt ESV will have guns (Or at least if it has a very primitive one for a quest that Andy doesn't know about). If he says yes, then my hopes will be shot down.

Sorry for the confusion there when I said "If he says no."

Don't you mean buoyed up?

"Mr McNamara, does the next GI cover involve guns?"
"No."
"Well then it must be TES!"

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong... *runs back to check*

Edit: ninja'd most impressively. Hats off to you good sir.

I would LOVE it if they introduced cannons/trebuchet/ or giant crossbows for firing on ships and walls and such and made them functional. Old siege weapons basically. I guess you could call these guns, maybe...

I should post that in the ideas and suggestions thread, but I'm afraid of entering that domain. This one is crazy enough, haha

200 years after the semi destruction of the imperial civilization, which would mean some other race would have had to come up with the guns, if there are any. Maybe the dwemer will make a return, introducing black powder weapons?

That's not really the point. The point is that guns don't really belong in TES.

I don't think Guns adds to the speculation as to when Oblivion will be announced or when its suppose to come out.

It does concerning my tweet to Andy McNamara. If he says no, then we know the next cover is not DNF or anything else with guns.

I don't even know if he would be allowed to say anything that gives away the next cover. If he does thats great hopefully its TESV if not then its a bummer but not the end of the world.

I posted earlier about the possibility of Elder Scrolls V under development in the general discussion forum. This would be more appropriate to post in here had I known what this forum was for. I'm going to post the links that I find about the news of this source.

I haven't found the direct source of this news but what I do know is that it originated from Eurogamer Denmark.

These are a few others that digress the source:

Well then, lets hope he replies to it :/
Can't wait for it!

Unfortunately I made a promise to myself not to spoil the game much, so I won't be able to read previews watch videos or pictures. I limited myself to 5 images, 1 video and 2 previews.

That is old dude, we already commented on that and ruled it out. So it's just another rumour, no need to care about it.

It's probably best that I handle this, the rest will just reply with undue amounts of snark and sarcasm :P

We've been discussing this a while - most things that have been out more than a day have already been discussed at great length. Currently, though, we're looking at the fact that Game Informer just had a 4-page spread entitled 'Encrypting the Elder Scrolls', which sounds quite promising for a future announcement.

The link to the original article:

http://www.eurogamer.dk/articles/2010-11-22-the-elder-scrolls-v-paa-vej

To bring you up to speed on what we talked about:

How 'direct sequel' is a mistranslation/doesn't mean it follows on from Oblivion;
How unreliable the source seems (although it does come from EG, which makes it more credible);
How unlikely it is that Bethesda planned this.

So yeah. Welcome to the forums, and do not anger Antibody :P
