I can only hope that for the first time since this thread started, Matt and Nick were looking at this thread and remarking at how right we are. Well, except for the T thing. They probably laughed at the T.

And I feel I should mention that I hope none of you are putting all your hopes in the VGAs. If TES V isn't announced there, that's far from meaning it wont be on the February cover, with an announcement by Bethesda at some point closer to the cover reveal than the VGAs are.

Heh, yeah maybe.
And my hopes are all on the cover. I know that Bethesda doesn't like announcing their games on events and stuff so VGA is just a optimistic thought.

Why do we keep saying TES V cover is set in stone for february? The only ones who know are the workers of Beth, amd Andy possibly. I think TES V as cover is about as set in stone as me winning the lottery: 50/50. It'll be set in stone WHEN WE SEE IT.

No one said it's set in stone. This is a speculation thread.

You seem to be mixing up people being extremely confident it's the cover and people thinking it's set in stone. Nobody has said it's set in stone, despite what you may think. Some people may have the opinion that it's set in stone for them, but nobody has said that it is definitely going to happen. Just because people such as myself aren't adding disclaimers in each of our posts mentioning that it isn't 100% confirmed does not mean we're also saying it's set in stone.

Neither the chances of TES V making the GI cover, nor the chances of you winning the lottery are 50/50.

From what we know about the criteria of that February cover, tho, TES V does seem a strong contender on a short list of qualified IPs.

You have a 50/50 chance of winning the lottery?

Also, I bet Devs were in here for a laugh. I bet they waving their colleagues over and shouting through the office: "HAY GUYS CHECK THESE svckERS OUT LOL! POURING OVER TWEETS LIKE NINNIES."

I would be flattered to have people care about my work that much. I am surprised they didn't drop some random words to get us into an even bigger frenzy.

The highs and lows of this thread have been killing me for a while, we have been here many times before, things certainly seem to add up. although Im sticking with the Dec announcement half of me seems to think that we may be disapointed, don't aim your hopes too high people.

I hate to be a party pooper (please don't stone me), but logically speaking, how does a lone tweet by a guy who does not work for, nor has he even mentioned, Bethesda automatically lead to wild speculation that he's talking about TES V? There are probably thousands of words in the English language that begin with the letter "T," and given Bethesda's track record, I seriously doubt they would bother to cram something as huge as the next Elder Scrolls in a 10 second slot at the VGA's, especially given their recent comments about really wanting to "show it off.".

I would also like to point out that Thief 4 was formally announced towards the beginning of last year, and Eidos/SE hasn't really let out a peep about it since then. Not that I think they would be stupid enough to slow down any momentum for the upcoming Deus Ex 3 with such an announcement, but technically speaking, that is another game starting with a "T" that people have been clamoring for 4ever, which was also hinted about in a tweet (in roughly the same fashion) well before last year's official announcement, now that I think about it.

I'm not trying to be a negative nancy, I'm just saying that I know we all want another ES game already (Bethesda should at least throw us a bone by now), but the years of setting ourselves up like this has just left most of us more and more disappointed (and angry) with Bethesda (the E3 and QuakeCon no-shows were especially disappointing for me, although not entirely unexpected). The game, a necessary end, will come when it will come. We can only hope that it will be soon, but I still don't think it will happen anytime within the next 4-6 months at least, especially with so many A-list titles shaping up to come out in the first quarter.

New Thief 4 info is about the only thing that could get me more excited than a TESV announcement. So I will assume those are the only two possible interpretations and call it a win-win.

The "T" thing is just stupid. But it's not this that makes us think we are getting an announcement soon. There are a bunch of other tweets both by GI editors, and Bethesda Staff. There are also some interviews, and the recent rumour activity regarding TESV.
A bunch of facts and evidence points out that an announcement is close, and that GameInformer's next issue is likely to be The Elder Scrolls V.
Also, here on the speculation thread we are trying to rule out as many game as we can. And so far the biggest canditates for GI's next cover are a Half Life game and The Elder Scrolls. Which are games that we've been waiting for a long. Also we can rule out ALL of the games announced so far, that includes Thief 4, based on a tweet by a GI editor. We know that the next cover is:
-A sequel or something like that to an existing franchise.
-It wasn't announced.
-A game that a lot of gamers have been waiting and that the last game in the series have been out for a long time.

So, all I can think about is TESV being the next cover. I don't think it will be on VGA.

I think there is a difference between reveal and announcement, but I suppose Thief 4 has been "revealed" but without details.

and...snip

Humans are highly illogical - Spock ;)

When does the Feb GI come out? Before Feb? If yes, then I'm a :sadvaultboy: as my Superbowl prediction would be ruined...or it could be the first gameplay footage! Ya, that's the ticket!

By the way, I remember when some shots or articles for Oblivion were released before Bethesda's desire. They had a contract exclusive with a magazine. I speculate that it will be a magazine release due to financial gain for Bethesda

GI cover, hitting stands before Feb...followed by video footage during the Super Bowl

I don't think that Thief 4 is a game that has been begged forever. It isn't as mainstream as Elder Scrolls.
Personally I love Thief series, but I don't think it is one of the games that could be the cover. Also, Thief 4 was officially announced a long time ago:

"Eidos-Montréal is excited to unveil its previously secret second title in development at the studio, Thief? 4, the next instalment in the legendary series.

The original Thief game, Thief: The Dark Project redefined first person gaming and established an entirely new genre of stealth based game play. The critically and commercially acclaimed Thief series has won numerous awards and accolades including GameSpy Hall of Fame, GameSpot Greatest Games of All Time and The Academy of Interactive Arts And Sciences Outstanding Achievement in Character and Story Development.

Eidos-Montréal, which is also currently producing the much anticipated Deus Ex? 3, has recruited the very best core team for the development of Thief 4. The team is comprised of industry veterans who have worked on an incredible collection of AAA titles and who each bring personal expertise in their respective fields.

“We’re in the early development stages for Thief 4, but this is an incredibly ambitious and exciting project for Eidos,” said Stéphane D’Astous, General Manager at Eidos-Montréal. “While it’s too early for us to offer any specific game details, right now we are focused on recruiting the very best talent to join the core team at the studio and help us make what we believe will be one of the most exciting games on the market.”

Development is under way and the team is looking to recruit the very best talent as production ramps up. If you are a world-class developer looking to join the talented Thief 4 team, visit www.eidosmontreal.com to submit your résumé or www.thief4.com to join the community discussion."
