Official TESV Speculation Thread #73

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:29 am

Other Possibilities for GI's next few issues...

-Uncharted 3 (speculation up on this, with, what it now known as fake, concept art making it's rounds)
-Prof. Layton v. Ace Attorney (getting a lot of interest)

Uncharted 3 probably has about the same chance of ESV being revealed as a cover soon.

Isn't that Prof. Layton game on the 3DS? Has Game Informer ever had a handheld game as a cover?

Not in recent memory. The game in question would have to be about as successful as Pokemon, but less "for kids," for them to consider it, I'd think.

I'm thinking there's a really good chance Devil May Cry 5 will be the next cover, although I don't know that series at all. There was a Devil May Cry 4 GI cover in the past, and there hasn't been any covers so far for DMC5, so it seems likely that the next one will be that.

I figured I'd bring it up because it was only a matter of time before someone else did. Though this has nothing to do with Bethesda Game Studios, so there's no real reason to talk about it here

Agreed. It's great news for the Zenimax family, bringing another industry legend under their wing to share knowledge with, and providing another great development studio with access to IdTech5, but that's not going to affect TES:V in any way. It's so far along in the development cycle that all these new acquisitions are only going to affect future Bethesda titles.

They are 2 years into development of their unannounced game. Whether that is an Elder Scrolls game is yet to be known. I have stated numerous times that I think the game will be an entirely new, open-world game. Not Fallout, not Elder Scrolls. This will give Bethesda 3 major games and they'll probably release one per console. XBOX 360/Playstation 3 = Elder Scrolls IV, Fallout 3, and the yet unnanounced game. Repeat for the next generation of consoles, Elder Scrolls V, Fallout 4, new game II.

Todd Howard in an interview (someone else will have to find it) said Bethesda game studios has 2 games in the making, one pretty far along in development, and one in the early stages... We're assuming that the former is TES:V and the latter is likely FO:4

I know that but if they are making the game incredibly detailed it will take a long time to create possibly 6/7 years. We have no real evidence and the closest we have is that Todd said a game (unnamed) was pretty far along in development.

I just don't want to get my hopes up.

Todd Howard: I don't know [laughs]. I have a sense but we're not ready even to talk about that, because it might change. I don't want to disappoint people.

One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now.

You know, if Pete Hines came in and said, "I want you to show it," I'd be like, "Okay, I'm ready to show it." But we've just decided for now not to yet.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-16-todd-howard-working-on-two-new-games

Bethesda Game Studios is already designing the game it will make after the one the team is currently working on - which itself has yet to be announced, executive producer Todd Howard has told Eurogamer.

While the majority of Bethesda's 90 or so staff are beavering away on the new game, which has been in development for two years, Howard said his time is split between the two projects.

"I spend a lot of my time on the game that's in pre-production, but the new game that's percolating takes the most of my time," he said in an interview with Eurogamer at QuakeCon.

Asked to confirm that he meant he was working on a second unannounced game, he said: "Right, so we're in production on the new game, and we have a design going for the one after that."

Howard said that the studio's current title will be announced soon, but he can't say exactly when. "I have a sense but we're not ready even to talk about [the timing of the announcement], because it might change. I don't want to disappoint people.

"One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now

Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion,” he said. “The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that.
“I can say it is on the existing platforms, which we’re really happy with. You almost feel like you have a new console when you see the game.”

Eurogamer: Is it fair to say then that it's based on existing technology?

Todd Howard: The technology is ours and it is inspired by the technology we have. We have a lot of it. But that's our starting point - the Fallout 3 tech. It started with Morrowind, we went to Oblivion, we did a lot between Oblivion and Fallout 3 because now we had final hardware - with Oblivion we had six months on final hardware, so Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that.

I can say it is on the existing platforms

VG247 stated that Todd Howard would announce it soon, but nowhere in the Eurogamer interview does it state Todd will announce it soon.

Regardless, Todd Howard has said he was ready to show it twice (in Eurogamer interview and EGM interview), so I think it will be announced soon anyway.

WHAT!? I have absolutely no idea where you got that idea from. Morrowind took 3 1/2 years to make with a team of 30 people. They've been working on this new game for 2 years with a team of ~90 people, roughly triple that of the Morrowind team. Todd Howard has hinted that it must be revealed soon considering if he was forced to show it now he would be proud. And Todd said the time between the announcement and release would be the shortest ever for them, so shorter than a year and a half (the time it took for Oblivion). They would have to delay the announcement for years upon years in order to take anywhere near 6-7 years of development time, and that's just not happening.

Easy cowboy. Welcome to the forums, but be careful what you say in this thread. We're pretty meticulous with details! ^_^

Final Fantasy XIII and Gran Turismo 5 are the only games I can think of that come close to that time-frame of development (Duke Nukem Forever doesn't count :P). Everyone else has already cited the sources that indicate an imminent announcement.

I know.

I looked at the sources and believe they do refer to TES but as there has been no confirmation I was just saying that it may be years before we get an announcement.

I think it will either be announced on 31st October, 5th November or 24th December.

It's a TES speculation thread, folks. A little humorous speculation goes a long way, don't over do it, mkay?

Ok I'm sorry for all the random dates but an announcement on a holiday would greatly increase the amount of coverage it would get by news teams and I didn't mean it to be spam. As the dates suggested come closer I find it less likely that it would be announced on that date and I can't stand being wrong so I changed my estimates. I'll stop posting dates in this thread unless I have evidence.

No I'm angry at Bethesda for realeasing (publishing) the game in such a buggy state.

The QA Team isnt doing thier job well enough. Cause those are some pretty big bugs.

You guys are gonna have heart issues later in life if a buggy video game causes you real anger.

I was reading the comments on my French game site of the acquisition of Shinji Mikami by Zenimax and a lot of the comments were sometthing like '' yeah, real cute, but... Bring Elder Scrolls V now because it,s that game we want!'' or simply ''V''. So yes, there seems to be a lot of other people out there burning from bethesda to announce next Elder scroll game :).

Yeah it seems that no matter what game news site I'm on, if I see an article mentioning Bethesda there are always a lot of people saying they want TES V. I have a good feeling that when TES V is finally announced, assuming they combine it with a nice hype-inducing trailer, the internet will explode as all of the the many scattered TES fans out there learn about it. This forum will definitely be crazy once that happens.

Definatly think that from a business point of view, i'd want the game coming out around the same time as NV did this year (if i was beth).

Maybe the development time was set out to be like this, from what we know:

From October 2008 - end of 2009 work on the engine (was confirmed by todd howard)

2010 - game content (also confirmed)

2011 - finish up adding in game content and sort bugs

release - fall november 2011

Just what i've thought all along, of course i don't know how much is going to be in the game... but judging from todd howards comments it looks like it's going to be shown soon, so a 2011 fall release is a good bet.

On the first episode of the Bethesda Podcast, Todd Howard says that the game he has been working for 2 years, is the game "everybody in the team really wants to play." (http://www.uesp.net/) Is this a slight hint that it is TES V, since they have been working on the series since 1992 and as Todd says in the Quakecon 2009 interview (2009 was when Bethesda was improving their engine): "Its obviously something we love, and one day we hope to get back to it" (http://g4tv.com/videos/40942/QuakeCon-2009-Todd-Howard-Interview/). Or am I just being too speculative? Let me know what you think.

Not to be harsh, considering your new, but this is the speculation thread. We've know he said that since way back in August. In fact everything you just said is linked to in the first post of each of these topics.
