Official TESV Speculation Thread #74

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:58 am

Well I can only speak for myself, but for me I think of this speculating business as a game. I have had a lot of fun (in my own kind of way) learning about trademark legalities, compiling data with excel sheet after excel sheet, reading up on statistics and probabilities, and even getting a self-taught lesson plan in marketing strategies. It's been very entertaining learning little bits on knowledge and sometimes deeper bits of knowledge all while coming up with "justified" dates and time frames. The stuff I come up with is based on "known" things and there are plenty of those around to find. I can say that I see Antibody has to do a lot of correcting people's misinformation so I think he's kind of a good steward on that side. Stain doesn't seem to post as much as he used to, but I really like the guy and look forward to the things he puts on here.

Mmm, yes I would have to agree with this statement.

Yeah that's pretty much all I do anymore. There isn't a lot of speculate on, we all seem to agree that it will be announced in the coming months so there isn't much left to do. I visit this topic regularly because not having something to talk about leads to people spreading misinformation while trying to find something to talk about, and I try to correct as much as I can.

There was just a question I've had in my mind for a while now, but to those of you who come and post in this forum topic regularly (Antibody, SyltStryder, Stain, etc.) , how do you manage to continually find subjects to discuss related to TES V's release?

snip

Thank you all for the undeserved flattery. I really cannot add much to what Sylt and Antibody (both of whom I greatly respect) have already said. Like Sylt, I really enjoy the deliberation of it all. I have a bit of a logical mind, so I quite enjoy sifting through all the seemingly random data points and deriving hypothesis to explain what we "know" and predict what we can expect. It all works surprisingly similar to my profession, where the game is to determine truth and build a strong argument to defend it. Participation here helps me hone these skills - plus it's fun in view of my favorite game series.

Unfortunately I am now working on my third degree, which now seriously hinders the time I have to dedicate to this thread and develop any complex ideas. Therefore, I spend the bulk of my time here assuming a similar role to Antibody's in guarding the thread against misinformation. We all know it's close. My personal belief is that the next "big" piece of information will usher in a period of escalating additions of new information that quickly crescendos into the announcement. And I think this will occur quickly enough to be contained all within a a couple days.

I have been searching about once a month or so on TES 5, and never found much. Bethesda studios being so hot for Fallout New Vegas and such, I didn't figure I'd find anything. Youtube even has some off the wall "Elder scrolls 5 trailers" on there. Just today I found some terrible sounding news that mentioned stuff along the lines of " TES 5 Empire for Xbox360, etc.... and Wii." First I panicked about Wii even being mentioned in any capacity with TES 5. So, I tried to find SOMETHING to the contrary.

I found this on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aisJHvCWzJo&p=B4C8F2ECBE05210F&playnext=1&index=16. If link doesn't work just look for " Elder scrolls 5 return of the dragons." Absolutely no evidence at all of authenticity, or even if it is a different game in production. What gave me pause was that it follows gameplay, and as far as I could tell, it looks VERY convincing. My apologies if this has already been discussed.

Here are the steps you should take now that you've reached this point:

1. Realize there is absolutely nothing official released on TES V and everything you find... no, wait, let me emphasize that, EVERYTHING you find about it on the internet that talks about it like it's been officially revealed is either a false rumor, a lie or a prank. And stop watching fake trailers on Youtube, as they're not worth your time.
2. Now that you've realized that searching the internet for TES V information is futile, start visiting the http://bethblog.com/ every day. If TES V isn't mentioned there, there is no news on it. And maybe come into this thread every so often if you want to see what we're speculating on.
3. ???
4. Profit!

Unfortunately the footage is from the disbanded http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/07/01/project-offset-officially-shut-down-at-intel-founders-launches/. Quite a shame actually.

Addendum: As long as you realize they are fakes, you may find them very enjoyable (especially the comments :hehe:).

Yes, sadly I admit to this. :sadvaultboy:

I keep going to elderscrolls.com everyday expecting to see a big "V" with a countdown on an intro page before taking me to the home page. Then when I go to the home page I see a handfull of amazing screenshots.

I don't know if this was how Oblivion was announced, but it's how I found out about it, and it's how I want to know about ESV.

Thanks. I do rely on the bethesda blog. Just saw this thing and couldn't help myself. Like previously stated, it does seem a shame that this game was axed.

bioshocks next game is coming in 2012
they have trailers for it, irrational games is keeping their fans updated and in the loop
bioware does the same thing
so do other game makers

then we come to bethesda game studios
where as... BGS not a word........
.................

please do not give them the EXCUSE that this is the way they always do it
frankly it simply, to me, shows disregard for the fans and creates unnecessary rumors
this is my opinion, but i know i am not the only one that feels that way

so i will say it again. 2012 before the even think of announcing it
my reason
fallout nv and the glitches [both games are using the same engine]
please do not excuse them for that either
when i buy a product i expect it to work,
maybe with a minor issue or two but not a major meltdown

1. The engine for Fallout: NV is not the same iteration of the Gamebryo engine that the mystery game will use. It is more akin to the engine used in FO3 and Oblivion. The mystery game is using a vastly revamped engine which, according to Todd Howard, will make the game seem like a next-gen title. Fallout NV obviously is not using the same engine as it's not close to looking like a next-gen title.

2. FO:NV was not developed by BGS, but rather Obsidian. There is no reason to think a gamesas title (Daggerfall notwithstanding) is going to suffer from bad glitches upon release. That being said, I fixed all my NV glitches the next day

3. While we would all probably like to be in the loop on game development like Bioware and 2K allow, gamesas is a private company that can do whatever they want. Their sales will not suffer because they do not share a lot of info on their products prior to release. Unfortunately we just have to be patient. In the months leading up to gold status, after announcement, you will know enough to decide whether to purchase the game or not. I'm guessing you will since your'e so distraught about not having info now.

The basic idea of the of rules is that you shouldn't be an ass, contribute to the threads or not post at all, and at least try to write proper English if you want to be taken seriously.
Okay, I made that last part up, but really, at least try to write proper English if you want to be taken seriously. It gets you a lot further in most communities. No matter how smart the content of a post is, if it's written in bad English, it's going to ruin everything.

Just lurk a bit and conform to your peers like you did in junior high.

i can fully understand what you say.well i'll do my best

Lets just remember to keep this thread simple. I understand some of us have discord with Bethesda but if we aren't speculating then this thread servers little purpose at the time, so any complaints we should bring to other threads, and at the very least keep this thread clean.

To quote Robert Carlyle's Dr. Rush on SGU, "We will never be done."

I'll believe the new news when I see it, that being said. I, like many of us here believe new news coming before the end of the year. *fingers crossed*

Don't feed the trolls. They're everywhere.
Oh, and we won't be past that phase until TES:V is officially announced.

Anyway, I must say that I'm positive for an announcement within the near future (which, in this case, would be a few months. Now, the word "few" is relative though). Maybe it's simply because of all the people around here that seem to be equally positive, but still. I mean, there must be some sort of relevance to Howard's "We're ready to show it, but we won't yet", and that leads me to believe that they will in fact show it soon. It's been a while since then after all, so by now he must be even more ready.

Conforming doesn't mean following the herd or losing your individuality. Conforming means to adapt. As the Princeton dictionary says it: "Acting according to certain accepted standards".
So yes. Do conform.

I think that's the definition he was referring to anyway. You should never change yourself to what others see as acceptable. (Though this only applies to nice people.) If the change is for the better there isn't a problem though.

Speculatively, I feel that interest has gone up in the next Elder Scrolls (or next BGS game) with the release of New Vegas. More people would be excited by an announcement sooner (before Dec) than later. Hopefully Bethesda agrees with this and acts accordingly (Announce it!)

Thats not TESV, thats the canceled project offset. Although it has nothing to do with TES I like to think that graphics wise, thats what TESV will look like.
