Official TESV Speculation Thread #75

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:42 am

Keep your eyes open when surfing the net. Earlier today a certain Game Informer editor let slip on the GI website that the January issue is "expected to be a little more 'medieval' than usual." This was pulled just moments later. It was found on the news page where they stated that New Vegas has shipped over 5 million units. I wish to god that I had proof of this. I got this from another source that visits GI frequently for news. I too tried to do some searching for this on the site and over the net but was unable to turn up anything. We'll know for sure come december.

Hmm. I agree with the others, but thanks for posting anyway. Too many people have cried wolf in this thread to believe these things anymore. At least there's a credibility to your story though. GI do like teasing future issues after all. I'll certainly be keeping my eyes open.

It would certainly be plausible if it's true. A January GI announcement could work well. However, after the ridiculous hype-train that was a few months ago, I'll be wary.

After the GI fiasco a few months ago I tend to disregard any speculation related to GI. I will only become interested when I see the actual cover and not a day before.

I do also believe that it could be the Witcher 2....or it could even be the Sim's Medieval....Though, the most likely title would actually be the closet thing out of them all! A Strong Hold 3 cover, that game has had very, very little press as of late.

Secondly, for those complaining about information this is speculation aren't we allowed to talk about the bull to sort it through and get knee deep in it?

It's still in the comments, open http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/11/08/bethesda-says-new-vegas-has-shipped-5-million-units.aspx then click on 'View conversation' in the comment that says "Great! Now we need them to announce TES V.".
It's the second comment in that tree.

I don't think he's an editor of GI.

He doesn't appear to be staff. All of GI staff members say staff underneath their photos

A reasonable position to take, and one which I subscribe to as well.

Game Informer has suffered a penalty of -2 to hype generation per turn, on top of which an initial skepticism of +4 has been applied to any editor tweets that could be taken as potentially related to TESV

His profile suggests he works at Taco Bell, is in 12th grade, and is just a big fan of Elder Scrolls and Fallout. He also lists Eragon as one of his favorite books...so...yeah.

lets not forget two worlds 2, which is looking light years better than the first.

but what if...the cover will feature all the upcoming mid-evil games for the year. considering the current lack of a decent mid-evil game. let alone a decent rpg(atleast for consoles anyway).
shortly before the cover reveal, TESV is announced. we all live happily ever after:)

I've Google translated many, many German reviews for that game and it's getting universal praise. In terms of graphics it looks like a modernized, 3rd person Oblivion (with better PC animation than Oblivion obviously). The reviews also claim that there are usually multiple ways to advance a quest, and the styles and designs of everything from flora, fauna, architecture, and clothing vary widely between geographic regions. The negatives aren't really that bad with one reviewer saying they may have to tone down the spell creation system because it leaves open the ability to create game unbalancing spell power.

It's probably a good thing if a game like Two World's II can innovate the RPG genre because the team at Bethesda will raise it's aim to squash any and all rivals.

I've looked at some screenshots of 2 world 2 and the graphics looks exceptionnals. The details of the dungeons, Forests and buildings all looks so real and goergeous. Looks to me as a good game to play while waiting for TES V who won't probably be here before End of 2011 in the best of cases.

Thanks to the comedy stylings of Egger3rd, I have indeed heard the voice acting and witnessed the cross eyed awkwardness of the characters of the original Two Worlds. I never had the joy of actually playing that game though.

I've not heard that combat svcks, and I certainly disagree with you that it looks really bad. That being said, this is not a Two World's II forum. So before we get an annoying warning from big brother we should just agree to disagree.

I think we can all agree that we're foaming at the mouth for any solid word regarding TES:V

I posted this before, but I want to bring it up again because I think it may be an important point (especially to those who think that the new game is a new IP):

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/56308/Bethesdas-Todd-Howard-On-Elder-Scrolls
When asked about a new Elder Scrolls, Todd says he wishes he could give us that answer right now, then when he is asked about what is going on internally at his studio, he says "I would say that we have pretty much the same team. I've worked with a lot of guys for over 10 years – the group that did Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. We just really enjoy doing what we're doing. We don’t want to be doing a ton of stuff. There will definitely be – and I'm glad everybody’s patient with us – gaps and sometimes bigger gaps between the titles. We hope it's worth the payoff. Thanks for your patience and bear with us. Hopefully it will be worth the wait."

Hmmm... he seems to talk about being patient, is he addressing this to the Elder scrolls fans? Because as far as I'm concerned we are the ones who have been waiting a LONG time. He talks about having bigger gaps between titles, well there is obviously going to be a bigger gap between Oblivion and TESV than there has been with Morrowind and Oblivion. Its been almost 5 years since Oblivion so we are well overdue. Also in this interview while discussing gaps between his Fallout titles http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN2131465420081023

Todd says "I think it's good for people to miss things," Well, we haven't had a new Elder Scrolls for ages. It seems like he is trying to create hype for the title. If we assume that the new game they are working on is a new IP, I think they would've announced it by now. There is no point for them to create hype or wait really long to announce a title that nobody knows that they're working on. I mean, they had no problem announcing Fallout 3 (which was a new IP for them back then), It was announced even before TES IV was announced.

So what do you guys think? :)

i agree with you its the little things that we miss, the way that he talks about this "unkown game" as if it were TeS V.

Anyone who thinks the next title is anything but an Elder Scrolls installment is simply a masochist. Don't get me wrong, I often lament the younger generations impatience and inability to put off gratification, but lets be real. The next game is gonna be an Elder Scrolls. Quality post by the way Parkar.

I'm writing a paper about the adolescent tendency to misinterpret and twist the circumstances of their surroundings to justify angst. It's annoying.

Anyways, I love that "Oblivion rap." I agree with the singer, Fallout is fun (although I haven't played new vegas) but it doesn't have the mythic intricacy and majestic qualities of TES.

Has it occurred to you that perhaps the lack of information has generated just as much or more buzz and speculation than if we'd been bombarded with information since 2006? Just look at how active this forum is. You're honestly concerned people aren't going to know when it's announced or that people have lost interest in the Elder Scrolls?

Like that tall, dark, mysterious boy that every girls wants to get to know, it's been hiding in the shadows, being all sixy and conspicuous in its absence.

Best marketing strategy of all time.

No, the best marketing strategy of all time was Duke Nukem Forever. Name one person who doesn't want that.

And that worked by becoming vaporware.

Yep, we're screwed :P

Edit: Wait a sec, I think I spotted an elephant in the room.

From the podcast, quote from Todd Howard:

"It's the game everybody in the team really wants to play"

Sounds innocent, right?

Wrong, if you accept my conspiracy theorising.

IF they are able to show the game - they might not be "ready", but they are able to - why can't they play it?

What's the one type of game you can't play pre-release?

MULTIPLAYER.

It's an MMO, guys.

I reiterate: we're screwed :P

since the game just game out the reviews are very high
in fact higher than they gave for oblivion when it came out initially
southpeaks is north americas publisher so the USA and UK will not see the game until 2011

reality pump wants the elder scrolls to lose its crown so theyy indeed put a lot into this game
ps it is also multiplayer and you can mod

hopefully it will shake BGS to realize there indeed might be a better game than what they offer

yes i have been waiting for this game
so i know quite well what people are saying
]just like larian studios remade dvinity 2 from the ground up and also is getting great reviews on their game

one day the elder scrolls will lose their crown
especially if they keep playing games with their fans
my opinion

You've been here a while, so I don't really feel the need to link you to the hundreds of articles that say that TES V is not being made. They're not allowed to say anything, it would be no surprise if Todd is having to lie about things.
