Official TESV Speculation Thread #75

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:08 am

You've been here a while, so I don't really feel the need to link you to the hundreds of articles that say that TES V is not being made. They're not allowed to say anything, it would be no surprise if Todd is having to lie about things.

Todd, and anyone else from Bethesda, has never, ever said "TES V is not being made." They've denied it, but never said for certain it is not being made. One time Todd was quoted as saying that we shouldn't expect another Elder Scrolls in the near future, however the blog post I just linked you to clarified that and said that they are going to make more TES games in the future.

You're right, I have been here a while, and I don't think I or the other regulars here appreciate you coming in and spreading misinformation. It is a fact that Bethesda Game Studios is not making an MMO, yet you seem to think they are. Zenimax Online is making an MMO, but that is a different team. Now you're saying that TES V has been confirmed to not be in development, and while we have no proof that it IS in development, we also have no proof that it definitely isn't.

And you're right, Bethesda could be lying to us, however "They're lying to us" is not speculation, it's simply accusing Bethesda of something you have no proof of in order to try and make your argument sound reasonable.

I would die a little if it does turn out to be MMO...literally

Now that NV is out my most looked forward to game is TESV...theres nothing on the horizon for some time now...DA2...nothing holds a torch to TES though...with as GOOD as a game Oblivion is to almost be 5 years old now...can you IMAGINE how good V will be if coming out in 2011-12? Nothing would ever be able to touch it...ever...

Sadly, the guy saying its an MMO comment does actually make sense...Why cant the team play it if its TESV?..Right now im pretty much sold in there being a TESV in the works...how could there not be? but with all this multiplayer garbadge thats taken wave these past few years....who knows....

You truly deserve your name -- you're the universal antibody to all sorts of nasty, misinforming pathogens.

As for speculation: Can anyone speculate on when the the January cover of GI will be announced? Seems like we might be in for a treat there.... I'm not familiar with GI, so don't know how they do stuff, really. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I gotta go with Antibody here, nowhere ever, and particularly not in your hyperbolic hundreds of articles, has Bethesda said anything to suggest that TESV is not being made. In fact, as has been said, they have confirmed that there will be more TES games and that the next one made by BGS will definitely not be an MMO.

EDIT: And we can expect the January cover in early December.

No, the best marketing strategy of all time was Duke Nukem Forever. Name one person who doesn't want that.

And that worked by becoming vaporware.

Yep, we're screwed :P

Edit: Wait a sec, I think I spotted an elephant in the room.

From the podcast, quote from Todd Howard:

"It's the game everybody in the team really wants to play"

Sounds innocent, right?

Wrong, if you accept my conspiracy theorising.

IF they are able to show the game - they might not be "ready", but they are able to - why can't they play it?

What's the one type of game you can't play pre-release?

MULTIPLAYER.

It's an MMO, guys.

I reiterate: we're screwed :P

I do not accept your conspiracy theorising.

I do not accept it because theorising is not a word. Theorizing is. The thing is underlined, you might as well click it and see what pops up.

Secondly, I do not accept it because (as we have already discussed in this thread) they are not making an MMO. We cannot say that they are making TES:V, but we know that they are not making an MMO.

Thirdly, what you are saying is not the elephant in the room. It is the Chihuahua next door that keeps barking, or rather making that yip-yip noise and is slowly but surely driving everyone insane, which continues barking no matter how much you yell at it, calmly ask the neighbors to quiet it, or kick it.

Even if it was multiplayer, there's no way they couldn't play it. How do you think every MMO ever has been developed if the developers couldn't actually play it before releasing it?

Though that would explain All Points Bulletin. :spotted owl:

Each issue is announced between the 5th and 12th of each month. This holds true for almost every issue, however occasionally a developer who's game is being previewed has special instructions they want Game Informer to follow, making them announce it earlier or later in the month at a time when the developer wants. But if the developer doesn't care when it's revealed, it will be revealed between the 5th and the 12th.

But as I'm sure you know Bethesda is almost definitely going to announce it before the cover is revealed, even if it's on the same day as the reveal, so IF it's being announced this December we should expect it in the beginning of the month.

...Are you being serious? ...If so... you can't expect things to change in a week. Yes, we expect an announcement soon, but things aren't going to change in a week. Try back once or twice a month, not every week.

Let's also take into account that it's not an MMO, if it were an MMO we would be hearing rumors about a closed beta...you don't do something as stupid as releasing an MMO without a closed beta. Secondly, unless they are going to publish it on XBOX, PS3, and the PC we won't see it. Bethesda is a multiplatform studio. Hence, when one looks at the bottom they see PC/XBOX/PS3 Until that changes or they say other wise I'm going to assume it's a multiplatform title. They could be something completely unique as well, like the ability to do single player and an MMO experience.

Seriously, the MMO argument needs to die.

Bethesda isnt going to say, "We do not make mmo's, we do not make mmo's, we do not make mmo's" just to say later, "Ha, gotcha, it's an mmo"

It won't be an MMO. Usually just uninformed people that heard the rumour that think that. Hopefully it is announced in the coming weeks though.

One of us should politely ask a GI staff member to kill the rumor with a link to the old blog post on the official GI website. Just to be nice. Like cutting a guys throat if all his limbs have been ripped off and his eyed and tongue have been cut out after someone stole his girlfriend and turned his children against him.

EDIT: That got downright macabre.

Considering people still believe the April Fools joke, despite reading it after the edit strongly hinted that it was a joke, I don't think that would help.

Thanks a million -- now I have a(nother) semi-definite date to look forward to :)

Hope they don't delay it -- I'm going to Rome the 14th, and am probably not gonna spend much time on any computer.... could be I won't see the announcement before I come back, if that's the case. Well, then maybe I won't be so sad when I return to this frozen, snow-covered sad country. And it's Christmas -- which would make it the best Christmas present Bethesda has ever given me!

Ok, please excuse me while I get a bit hypothetical.

We know Beth are working on something.
We know that they could show it if they wanted to.
With the circumstancial evidence accumulated thus far, we can speculate that the project is TESV, and that in relation to development / release schedules of past projects, we could feasibly expect a lauch of the project sometime in the next year (not taking into account any marketing & promotions).

So, if we are correct in assuming that the project is pretty far along (ie nearing completion in the next 6 months), my question is if you were the one making the big decisions at Bethesda, what date would you pick for : a) the reveal, and B) the release. & yes, I know we would all be tempted to shout 'NOW' like the impatient malcontents we know we are, but I'm asking for hypothetical dates with a reason or some significance.

Personally, the reveal could be 5th of May 2011. (5th of the 5th [V of V of MMXI {henceforth known as Skyrim* day}])
The launch would be for a holiday release so, November 5th 2011 (solely because of the recurring elements of 5 and 11 [also because of the positioning for the xmas period])

Any thoughts?

Whoever picks the correct date gets a cookie**

The date is largely up to Pete Hines to decide, as Todd Howard has already said.

Pete is concerned with marketing, but because none of us are marketing execs for a game company, we really have no clue what's going to be his reasoning for the date he picks. Maybe he'll be announcing it when no major games are coming out, maybe he'll be announcing it when talk about New Vegas dies down, maybe he'll be announcing it before or after further details of the New Vegas DLC are announced... we really don't know for sure. All we do know that an announcement at some date before the end of February seems likely, but even then that's just a guess.

Edit: Also, for the love of all that's holy, don't start speculating on exact dates that you guys feel like pulling out of thin air again. It's pretty much pure spam, except it's slightly on topic spam.

As Antibody said: Can we not discuss dates drawn out of thin air, please? It's really frustrating to have to read through pages of irrelevant stuff to filter out useful information.... there's little enough of it as is. I'll even contribute by not writing more off topic from now on (as it seems my two or three last posts have been) :P

@SyltStryder: Yeah, Todd always sends a nice card and some signed GOTY editions .... I wish
