Official TESV Speculation Thread #76

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:27 am

This is part of the reason why after December 16th looks good since it will have passed the month long oppositional period.

Well I guess we can rule out an announcement at the spike VGA's which is going to be held on December 11th!

Why don't we all just go dress up in our enchanted leather armor, put on our viking hats, grab our claymores and axes, drink a couple of blunt boosting potions and head down to this company in florida and liberate Skyrim from them?
Whos with me?!!! :mohawk:

If I recall correctly, Oblivion was announced when the trademarks for it were still in oppositional stages.

Soo then the VGA is entirely possible as a reveal, wasn't fall out 3 revealed at the VGA, aaaand New Vegas as well?
It is after all being held at the L.A Convention center.

I don't like the VGAs.

Let me reiterate. I really [censored] hate the VGAs. But I watch them every year because a lot of games either get announced or are shown there for the first time.

Before Oblivion, I don't think Bethesda would have had the clout to show their stuff off at such an event, but now that they've had two major hits I think it's a definite possibility that they might show The Elder Scrolls V there. (Or whatever they're working on.) Especially now that New Vegas is out of the way.

I'd attribute Bethesda's success to Fallout 3 and Obsidian's New Vegas, personally.

Honestly, I don't think so...Bethesda had main stream success with the launch of Oblivion, the market expanded and bottomed out with the release of Fall Out 3.

anyway, I think the VGA is the next date we can look forward to.

Orzorn made me realize what Zenimax could be doing when he made a comment that said TES is going to happen, it would be like Square Enix not making a Final Fantasy game. Let's look at it this way, you have about 5 installments then release an MMO and then release stand a lone games separate from the MMO series. The way they have done ES games is that each of them are separate in a similar fashion to Square games.

Just got an update on the Skyrim trademark!
The status of the SKYRIM trademark application was changed to NON-FINAL ACTION - MAILED on Tuesday, September 28, 2010

...could be old, but was sent to my email today.

Morrowind saved the company from bankruptcy, and was a commercial and critical success so I'd point to that juncture as the beginning of their ascendancy. Oblivion made more money than Morrowind, and Fallout 3 made more money than Oblivion. The chart has been very positive beginning with Morrowind.

This Wednesday(tomorrow) might be the next date we should look forward to:

"Geoff Keighley’s said that the first two 'world premiere announcements' for the SpikeTV Video Game Awards, airing December 11, will happen this Wednesday."

One of the games has to do with Bioware, but the other game could be the Elder Scrolls V.

As early as this Wednesday? Wow, I better not get my hopes up because I adore bioware practically as much as I do Bethesda

Same here! Both Bioware and Bethesda get the thumbs up. Two RPGs being announced at the same time? Anyway, an ES5 announcement would make me smile :foodndrink:

Tomorrow you say? good :)

Seriously though, the possibility might be slim....but this is Elder Scrolls we're talking about. Every chance must be classified as THE chance.

EDIT: Actually just read the link, it seems like Bioware's announcement is the main thing for tomorrow. So unless Bethesda has specifically told them not to give any hints, i think we should cross it off :(

While Morrowind was successful, Oblivion was the game that made them popular with mainstream gamers, setting them up for more success with Fallout 3 as they were already well known thanks to Oblivion.

Both were unveiled first on gamesas's website.

This just means that correspondence has been sent to Zenimax Media regarding a decision that the USPTO made - this most likely is something incidental to the process and nothing with which to concern ourselves.

While the zeal to consider announcement avenues is greatly appreciated, we have no other precedence from which to hang our hope for an announcement beyond their website. Therefore, reasonable expectation dictates that the announcement will come first through the website. So rather than eagerly enduring these various gaming events with suffocating anticipation for an announcement that will never come, look to these dates as little upticks in the probability, careful to factor Bethesda's interest, of a possible website reveal. Again, while Bethesda is free to do otherwise, it is near certain the announcement will be on the website before all else.

Unless of course this all changes and they go for the main stream market revealing it exclusively on spike then putting it up on the website.

I think they would put up a count down in the morning which would make the most sense, lets not forget this is good time for announcements and a game like ES would pretty much steal all of the thunder with head lines reading ME3 and TESV announced...wow, talk about some crazy, crazy drama. Pure speculation of course....hurray!
